*NBC replaces Conan with Leno*

GAF: "Leno is a douchebag! What a fake! He's dishonest!"

*Leno thinks about walking out to screw over NBC because of how they treated Conan and himself*

GAF: "Leno is a douchebag! What a fake! He's dishonest!"

Seriously, guys--I like Conan. I don't think he's as good as Letterman, but I like him. I always have. His original Dudez A Plenti sketch is the best late-night sketch in the last 15 years.

But this paranoia and constant anti-Leno stuff is ridiculous. Even when news comes out about him doing something good you jump all over him.

It's pretty nuts if you think about it. Not only that, if Conan does leave The Tonight Show, I have no idea if we will ever see him again on another talk show.. He may have just completely killed Conan's talk show career.
I can't imagine a commodity as big as Conan being gone forever. He may be relegated to HBO or something, but there's just no way that Conan is gone forever.

Now if someone was REALLY thinking outside the box, they'd wait for this to happen and then either ABC or FOX or CBS would go to Conan and say, "Hey, Conan, we're thinking about creating a show to compete with Saturday Night Live. You're gonna have whatever budget you want. We want you to produce it and even write it if you want." And if Conan's mindset is what most peoples would be-- total disgust with late night television-- he might just take the offer.

I don't know how well it'd turn out but ti'd be nice to see someone with the balls to do that.

Jay Leno is a fucking scumbag if he comes back to the Tonight Show. What the fuck, guy? You quit, you already passed the torch. What the fuck.

I'm loving the internet rage at all this. :lol

Leno show gets canceled even though his ratings were good & expected from the network. Is reduced from an hour to a half hour AND moved back from primetime to 11:35.
While Conan gets pushed back only half an hour & gets Leno as his direct lead-in to help his massive sagging ratings & he is the one screwed out of this situation?

I'll say it here since this is becoming the official thread, but Conan is the douche bag for putting Leno in the current situation.
Now Leno has to either accept the position of Tonight Show host & look like an opportunist, taking advantage of Conan leaving or decline & endanger his entire show & career.

Fucking dick move.

Leno's ratings were not good. That is the whole reason for this mess.

not to mention he's just the guy who doesn't know how to quit.

perhaps if the ratings were bad and NBC wants to cancel him , he would just retire or propose doing another show that itsn't in the 11:35 timeslot.

The fact he let it go on this long is his fault.

Late Shift 2, in keeping with Conan's old sketches:

Conan O'Brien - Liev Schreiber
Jay Leno - Christopher McDonald
David Letterman - Clive Owen
Jimmy Fallon - Ashton Kutcher
Jeff Zucker - Christoph Waltz
Carson Daly - Artie Lange

Well, if they didn't want leno to leave at that point, why bother to keep Cohan with the carrot of TTS? Let him go to CBS. Or offer him something else besides the TTS.

Instead, they basically lied to keep him. Or forgot to tell him he'd only have TTS for 7 months.

Because in 2004, although declining, NBC wasn't in as bad as a position as they are now.

Conan should just book it tonight and leave Norm at the Tonight Show desk until Leno gets there.

Norm guest hosting the Tonight Show would be the only good thing to come out of all this.

Recipe for an Awesome Double Fuck You:

1) 1 cup of "Conan lets NBC buy him out of his contract."
2) 1 cup of "Letterman announces he's handing The Late Show over to Conan, effective as soon as CoCo's non-compete clause expires (in a year or two)."
3) Flip NBC the bird, stir, and let cool for 10 years.

I don't understand all the Leno hate either. This seems like it's completely and totally NBC's fault. Leno got moved, now NBC says they want to move him back, and even Leno is pissed about that. I think he is a terrible host and comedian, but to call him a douchebag for something he hasn't even done yet is too much. In the end, I hope Leno and Conan walk with their self respect in tact, heads held high and leaving NBC with nothing.

Also, I'm glad Letterman has been so vocal. I think he's been in decline, but Conan came from the exact same place as Letterman. Conan got what Dave deserved all those years ago, and to see NBC try to screw the host of Late Night twice is nothing short of retarded.

I could see it happening. Letterman's contract only extends through 2012 I believe.

I could see Dave wanting to do something to keep Worldwide pants producing the show.

Would kinda send Ferguson a fuck you, but to be honest, I don't even think Ferguson wants Letterman's job.

Your problem is you aren't operating from an assumption that Leno is an asshole who will do anything to get the Tonight Show back.

Leno is acting like an innocent know nothing that is as much a victim as everyone else.

Just like he did in 1992.

Don't let the facade fool you. He is a no talent weasel that will get what he wants through any means necessary.

Yeah. I like Ferguson but unlike Conan I can't see him altering his show. He isn't as wacky and weird but it's a more homely/common person approach.

This is surely going to be a movie before too long:
BREAKING NEWS! 3RD UPDATE: I've learned about a meeting that began at 1:45 PM at NBC Universal about The Conan War: On one side of the room -- NBCU bigwigs Jeff Gaspin and Marc Graboff. On the other -- O'Brien's reps: manager Gavin Palone, WME agent and board member Rick Rosen, and the newest member of Team O'Brien, Hollywood litigator Patty Glaser, who was hired on Sunday and is WME's legal shark of choice. I wouldn't want to be Gaspin or Graboff right now: Gavin can be as mean as a rabid dog, Rick's agency reps 60% of the TV talent, and Glaser is a pitbull. This is bloodsport.

I've learned both NBCU chief Jeff Zucker as well as Gaspin were told that, before it went out, Conan was publicly making that statement (see below). My insiders say O'Brien's reps didn't want him to do it. "They were not thrilled. They told him it would undercut his negotiating leverage," one source revealed to me. "But Conan wouldn't listen to them. He wanted to make it." When Conan read the statement to the staff, "he broke up. He began to cry," one of my insiders reveals. "Because for 17 years he was working towards The Tonight Show, and now he says he's prepared to walk away from it. That's an amazing thing. An amazing thing. But he takes very seriously the fact that The Tonight Show baton was passed to him."

Meanwhile, Hollywood creatives are already starting to show support for Conan against NBC. At the Television Critics Association confab, near the end of the session with ABC TV showrunners, TV showrunners Steve Levitan (Modern Family) and Bill Lawrence (Cougar Town) said almost in unison: "Hey, did you guys read Conan's letter?" Lawrence added: "I love it. Man, it was just ballsy. It's just the way I hoped it would be."

Fuck you, NBC!!!! You made CoCo cry and now you shall rot in the darkest pits of hell where you belong. FUCK YOUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!

*cries too*

That would be the greatest show ever.

Conan: I didn't feel like doing the show tonight...So I'm letting good buddy Norm Macdonald do it.
NBC: OH Fuck
Norm: Who would have thought I'd be back on NBC :O

When was this?

Also, Dave's hate for Carson Daily is legendary and inexplicable. :lol

Carson Daily actually did the right thing giving up on comedy and just taking a camera around LA filming indies. He used to do comedy the first year or two but it was embarrassingly bad. Plus NBC doesn't have to pay for a studio for him anymore (he just interviews where ever).

While I think it's in poor taste if he takes it back, he never quit. He was forced out because NBC panicked that Conan was getting courted by CBS. So they made the deal 5 years ago that Conan was going to take over the Tonight Show in 2009.
Leno wasn't forced out. He was "pressured" to agree to retire eventually. The only force came from Father Time. He broke his word and nobody stopped him. What kind of force is that?

Now Leno's just going to hang around, forever bogarting the legendary premiere show in late night which he stole twice, until he chokes to death onstage in a public spectacle which Letterman and Conan will Tivo and watch at parties.

NBC has bent over backwards to give Leno anything he could want. Claiming he's getting "screwed" is Leno's way of deflecting criticism. The NBC execs don't even mind being unfairly (when Leno does it) made the scapegoat, because that's just part of their support for Leno.

I like Leno but this whole thing is his fault.

I also think Ferguson and Conan would make an awesome duo, much like Stewart and Colbert.

That possibility excites me, to be honest.

Ferguson is probably happy just to have a job. I mean, he was the asshole boss on the Drew Carrey Show.

I'm still trying to figure out how the hell he got that gig.

Not that I don't think he is funny.

He might actually be a better Letterman replacement because he is really good at the goofy for the sake of goofy stuff that Letterman excells at.

I don't watch Ferguson as often as I should, but everything I've seen of him tells me he probably wouldn't give a shit :lol
