Latest DC Universe Online news | Beta is on

In hindsight I guess it was never going to be F2P, don't know why I even hoped fot it :lol

But have they said it's going to be a full priced release on top of that? That's not normal for MMOs is it?

Well I'll just wait til it can be bought for cheap and then play it for a 2-3 months. FFXIV is a guarenteed purchase for me, and I fully intend on getting into it properly. 2 subscription MMOs at the same time just isn't gonna happen for me but I do really want to give this a try.

The only way I will subscribe is if PlayStation Premium takes care of it.

I t probably wont take care of all of it but maybe some packages, like 3 months at 10 bucks or something like that...

do not want :(

does The Agency require monthly-fee too ? ( thought SOE was thinking of fee-less MMO or something , guess I was wrong ).

Sony should at least make this monthly subscription-less for PSN+ or something.

They haven't said anything about The Agency yet, probably because they're trying hard to focus on DCUO's release. I would imagine anything that applies to DCUO is going to be their standard formula: Pay for the client, then a monthly fee (probably $15).

What !!

I thought they were going to go for a free model. If I wanted to pay $15 a month I would renew my WOW account and play an MMO made by the best out there.

i've paid for EQOA, FFXI, WoW. still paying for ffxi plus an extra dollar for my mule..

but $14.99 for dc universe is too much. i'm assuming agency will be free then? cause if i have to pay for both at $14.99 that would suck.. not to mention ffxiv on the way as well.

i was hoping for no more than $9.99

I was never expecting this to be Free 2 Play, I don't understand why anyone did.

$14.99 is the standard rate for most MMOs at this point so not a big deal.

I've rechecked ,few years ago originally The Agency supposed to no have monthly fees ( like Free Realms), instead ads and other crap

and till mid last year was the same thing for DC Universe (DC Universe Online – No Subscription Fee ) , guess something/someone changed that.

$15 per month on PS3 is one bad idea ( hell even APB is free ) can't SOE guys use their heads anymore?

It amazes me how many people are surprised that a MMO has a monthly subscription I guess maybe because there really hasn't been an MMO on a console other than EQOA and FFXI.

it's because SOE said they are going for free model.

Because the MMO space on the whole has been moving away from monthly fees, and heading for free to play model, which has been shown to be profitable without having to compete against the big dogs like WOW. I don't see DC Online doing too well in this format. I think the only future MMO that can still pull monthy fee is Knight of the Old Republic.

Well you could be right, Aaron. The industry is moving in that direction. I'm sure SOE has a plan for that if the monthy fees don't work out. Until then I'm on the monthly wagon as what I've seen so far will be more than worth it for me.

I have no choice. :lol

That article also says hat PS3 and PC users can play together. Yes alot can change during the development of a MMO, but I always expected a fee. I don't know where those guys got their infos, because when I talked to the SOE guys in August of 2009 they said: "We have not decided on the pricing yet."

Woot!

Some real beta news!

3:30-4:30 DC Universe Online: The Next Legend Is You!— Superstars Jim Lee (Batman: Hush) and Mark Hamill (voice of The Joker, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: The Animated Series) join forces with the DC Universe Online development team to reveal the exciting backstory of this action MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) game. Jim, Mark, and key members of the development team from Sony Online Entertainment discuss how an earth-shattering chain of events will make you the key to the salvation or ruin of the DC Universe when the game launches this November. All attendees will receive a DCUO VIP Beta Key! Room 5AB

Who's going? We should set up a beta guild.

You will never see a good MMO, with good support without a monthly fee. They havent been moving away, more models have opened up, and those models are horrendous. Every last one of them.

How could some people have expected no subscription? This was a big budget MMORPG from the start and those have subscription fees.

Edit: Oh I never saw that press release where the Sony guy said no subscription fee. Yea that does suck if you were expecting that to be true.

Add that to the fact that both Free Realms and Star Wars Clone Wars Adventures are both going to be F2P.

I'm really hoping DCUO turns out to be great, but it's looked below par all through its development cycle. Environments meant to be bustling cities are empty and lacking in detail and atmosphere, animations are rough as hell too.

I look at a game like Age of Conan, which is a contemporary big budget MMO, and I can see where the money went. Great animations, amazing art, wonderful music, and I look at DCUO, and I can't help but think it looks like a standard ARPG like Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 or Justice League Heroes that just happens to be multiplayer.

Ta very much, signed up... PSN Plus better get me in.

You know, I know they said you'd have access to early betas, but I would be highly pissed if this wasn't one of the games it was talking about.
