Latest EA Online Servers Shutdowns Includes Online Pass Games.

Bringing up an irrelevant fact is going to get you jumped on.

Irrelevant fact? The (shitty) online terms are laid out clearly for all to see. If you plunk down $60 on a game without understanding what you've bought, that's your problem. Don't like the terms? Don't buy the game.

It's so annoying that ea close their game servers so soon when other independent games out there still work and play online...

I hate ea so much this gen and their services.

And this is why closed off p2p gaming which relies on the publisher being able to keep the service running is a bad idea.

What will happen when games like Darkspore have their servers shut down?

Someone will make a thread on Gaf, arguing that such an act is very anti-consumer and quite literally puts a limit on how long consumers can enjoy the games which they forked over their good money for.

Then a bunch of corporate apologists will come in saying shit like "didn't you read the EULA?? You should be grateful that EA allows you to give them your hard-earned income at all!!".

Ugh... modern gaming (and modern gamers)...

Because closed off dedicated servers that don't have a master list to put themselves on anymore are much more resilient against this.

EA Create is basically a "Play, Create, Share" game like Little Big Planet. So closing the servers means the game is basically useless.

People need to realise that if you are paying EA more than 5 euro per pc game and more than 20 for retail console game you are going to regret it ;)

EA still thinks you love them and approve of all of this online pass/on-disc DLC nonsense if you keep giving them your money.
Better stop that.

Wow, look at all of the new EA games topping the PAL chart leaderboards. Looks like you've got company. EVERYONE loves EA's new practices.

people who payed online pass plus xbl fee will be happy.

I think that games that close servers should be patched to allow p2p direct gaming introducing your friends's ip or allowing servers from other providers.

That sucks. I mean they can't even bother to keep up some sort of server for The Saboteur? So if I get the game after this date I won't be able to buy the boob dlc? Lame. I mean can't you just keep up same sort of server for a little thing?

sucks for fans of the ea mma game since i doubt they make another now that zuffa owns strikeforce. doubt you can sell an mma game using a bunch of japanese mma fighters and bellator.

The online passes will be unavailable for purchase after these go down, surely?

You could say that the part of the company covering the servers for the Saboteur DLC...

...went bust.

YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!

So no more tits in The Saboteur after April 13th? I'll probably survive, but this doesn't feel right at all.

I don't get this. Isn't that content offline anyway? So are they just taking the content off the PSN/XBL Marketplace or something?

Oh and an obligatory fuck you to EA. I'm not one of the people that constantly whine about online passes (though they shouldn't expire) but maintaining p2p servers is dirt cheap, so this is a sleazy asshole move. Especially since the online Achievements/Trophies they love throwing into every one of their games are then made impossible to get.

This is why I am extremely reluctant to buy EA games. Scum, I am not sure who I dislike more, EA or Capcom. At least Activision don't do bullshit like this.As evil as Activision are they don't do online passes, time saver DLC, server shut downs or throw orphaned babies into wells after killing their parents.*

*Ok, maybe EA don't do one of those things. I wish there was more consumer protection against this bullshit.

I am still confused as to what servers are actually doing for EA as the games are not at all hosted on dedicated servers. This is just the back end logging into EA stuff right?

So why not just build into these games the ability to still play online but not connect to EA so at some point when they want to move their back end servers people can still play.

Gonna be interesting to see if they still sell the online pass for these games. If someone bought this game and could not connect I can see some people buying the pass (if it is still up) and then still not being able to play.

Doesn't the new Diablo require that you are connected to the internet to play singleplayer? Isn't that just another step in the direction of requirering all singleplayer games to do so?

That's it, EA, just keep on flinging away whatever last shred of good-will you have with your customers.

My mind is boggled at how Origin users trust this POS company.

online passes are free anyway unless you buy the game preowned, and the passes dont buy you x amount of time, they just buy you the right to use ea servers

and having said that, ea have a long history of shutting down its games, so its no surprise, online pass makes no difference what so ever

This and other posts like it. I know it sucks when a game you play online gets shut down, but c'mon... EA should leave the servers up for the 10 people that play EA's MMA? I've never bought an online pass. I buy my games new. Go me!

The online pass is so EA gets money for the game they released since you bought it used. Means nothing else.

ToS are not written in plain English, nor are you able to return the game (easily) after reading them.

I forgot about Origin, thanks for reminding me why I should ignore their DD store. They're shitty practices need to be drilled into gamers' minds. As for Activision and Diablo, I have no idea.

R.I.P Burnout Revenge, you will be missed
very fucking much :(

They should at least wait until next-gen starts before turning current-gen servers off. Fuckers.

They should make the online pass free, at least, 12 months before shutting down the servers.

Probably there are people that bought the online pass in the last months.

So to reward legitimate players who bought those online passes, they won't make any effort to put any of the money earned through them into maintaining servers.

Awesome

So how many non EA games have been shut down this gen?

Personally can't think of any. MMOs maybe?
