Laurence Fishburne is in talks to succeed William Petersen as the star of CBS' veteran crime drama "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."

CBS and CBS Par's search has been shrouded in secrecy, but sources say Fishburne is being heavily courted to play the new character, described as a doctor/scientist outsider to the CSI unit who has the same genetic profile as a serial killer but hasn't previously acted on any homicidal impulses.

Fishburne, an Oscar nominee for "What's Love Got to Do With It" who most recently co-starred in "21," had been mentioned as one of the "CSI" producers' top choices for the role, along with John Malkovich and Kurt Russell.

WE want Malkovich!

"Huh? Whatever. We ahve a couple FBI Agents here who want to see the scene."
"theyyyy are the gatekeepers. But where others have failed, we will succeed."
"God dammit, Harrison. There's a murderer on the loose."
"Free. Your. Mind."

being the lead of CSI is like a sign that your blockbuster Hollywood actor days are over.

Pretty much, then again I suspect he got a pretty big pay-day from Matrix sequels so perhaps he's not sweating it too much.

How could you hate on Fishburne??

also lol at Kurt Russell...not he isn't a great actor but do they think they can get him?

To be honest, he'd be a much easier grab than Malkovich. Heck, why don't they just name-drop Daniel Day-Lewis or Robert DeNiro while they're at it.

This makes not a lick of sense, but the totally awesome placement of the word "previously" makes up for it.

I stopped watching CSI a few seasons ago but wtf did they do that for?!

Framed for something or another, they found out it wasnt him, dude who framed him killed him.

But 4realz, it was because of the drug arrest I'm guessing.

Its not hate on Fishburne more than seeing Malkovich being Malkovich on CSI.

Russell almost impossible to get. John is a bit more random.. the man did Eragon

I think Johnny Depp would be perfect for this part.

Could we get Burton to direct? And Helen Bonham Carter to make regular guest appearances?

Unless you're Disney...Sky High anyone.

Also he's worked in TV series before, something Malkovich hasn't done other than guest hosting SNL.

Malkovich also seems like the kind of person who would get bored with a character if he has to play him for too long.

Anyway if they can nab any of them it would be a steal.

:lol :lol :lol

WTF.

CSI has always blown but this sounds so silly.

With Germany a few seasons behind this thread was spoilerific (no one to blame but me for going in).

Why does Peterson leave? I really like his character on the show.

Just time to move on but he stays as a producer of the show I believe.

I was just reading up on this, he will also be back for special occasions.

Also regarding
Warrick's death
I found this one to be quite interesting:

Jorja Fox will be back for "multiple" episodes, beginning with September's season premiere -- an hour that will also feature an appearance by Gary Dourdan's Warrick, who was seemingly shot to death in last May's finale. "We're not saying whether or not Warrick lives or dies," hedges Mendelsohn, "but we will say that the premiere may be the last time our loyal fans see the entire original CSI cast together."

CBS has closed a deal for Laurence Fishburne (“The Matrix”) to join the cast of its top-rated series “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.”

Mr. Fishburne will make his first appearance on the show during the ninth episode of the show’s season, which likely will air in November.

CBS said Mr. Fishburne will play an ex-pathologist now working as a college criminalistics professor who focuses on why people turn to violence. He ends up consulting on a murder investigation and gets lured into joining the “CSI” team full-time.

Mr. Fishburne replaces longtime “CSI” star William Petersen, who’s leaving the show this season. Mr. Petersen remains an executive producer on the series.

So basically Dexter but without the perfect secret crimes.

Whoa. Whoa. WHOA! No more Grisham? That is lame.

:lol Thank you for this. I had forgotten that he was on Pee-Wee's Playhouse.
Another CBS SHOW I might add!

anyway, what's the big deal? anyone remember when Ving Rhames was Kojack? oh.. oh, no...

No really big names on CSI, please. A relatively big name like Gary Sinise isn't doing CSI:NY any favors, the only reason that show is better than Miami is the much stronger supporting cast and better writing.
Do the right thing and cast an obscure actor, CBS.

are you kidding? Gary Sinise is great in CSI:NY.

The only problem those shows have is when they try and have any character development/stories. They just don't give enough time to it to make any sense at all. Either spend more time on the character stuff outside of the crime, or drop it completely.
