Leaked Titanfall Alpha footage

That's true. I hope there are some game modes that will surprise us all.

But I just thought there would be more "meta-game". Like in Team Fortress 2, where the heavy's are very important. There, medics and other team members protect those heavy's because they are very helpful and are a key component of the game.

I thought we would be seeing a similar system: where the little agile guys should be doing supportive actions for the mechs or something.

From what I've seen now, the currently shown game modes only support lonewolving. There is no deep system or anything.

I was also expecting like frontlines within the street. So a pack of mechs and soldiers would be running into a street, while all of a sudden, from around the next corner an enemy group would appear.
But the maps are so damn small there is no frontline or anything. It's all just random chaos, which is not original at all.

Yes, but if you want to be supportive in BF games, you get rewarded.
You get points for reviving, for giving ammo, for repairing vehicles, for spotting.

None of that kind is here. It's all about running and gunning: there are no supportive actions to be found. Just like in CoD.

I thought people stopped playing CoD because they wanted something more. More than just running aimlessly around a map, dying and respawning.
In BF games and Planetside 2, you can have fun even without having to kill people every 3 seconds. Because there is a meta-game that awards you for certain team oriented actions.

Stop being salty. My arteries are chocking. Smh.

I was being sarcastic, if it wasn't obvious. You'll get pounced on pretty quick if you make some negative remarks about what you've seen so far, simply discredited as being a 2hater2 and 2salty2.

I'm pretty sure the salt comes from everyone assuming it would come to the PS4 and then having that hope blown into little bitty pieces.

Its possible that they will put a version up on Steam a week or two before the release date, other EA Partners games have done so in the past.
Keep in mind that version will only be tied to Steam, it won't be strictly Steamworks, IE you can just buy a copy on Amazon or GMG and it will activate on Steam.

Can't you also copy the keys from the Steam releases and input them into Origin? I know it worked for the Steam release of Sims 3.

And a shame to hear you don't enjoy torturing Sims.

Good analogy. Now I don't understand why a sport is so important to anyone, though.

Because for us, when we support a team, the team becomes a part of us. Their success is our success. Their failure is our failure. Etc etc. The degree of how big of a part it consumes our identity varies from person to person (and this also tends to imply how emotionally they'll react to something regarding their team).

It's pretty crazy, if you take a step back and think about it. Would make a fascinating study for any budding psychologists out there.

they are arsenal fans and the dude just shot a goal against arsenal and celebrated in front of them

The fact that he had just left Arsenal in contentious circumstances, and then rubbed it in their face is what really made em angry

I'm pretty sure the salt comes from everyone assuming it would come to the PS4 and then having that hope blown into little bitty pieces.

I dunno about that. Albeit this is pretty anecdotal, from the impressions I've read in most Titanfall threads a lot of PS4 fans don't seem particularly interested by the game. A lot of them probably dodged a bullet by MS taking it away from their system.

For a gaming enthusiast forum, you would think the majority of users would have access to a gaming PC of some fashion. With the shear amount of quality indie titles and other exclusives on the platform, not to mention the definitive nature of multiplayer games.

Going by the GAF GOTY and typical ignorant responses, its actually the opposite. Very strange.

Yes, you can do the reverse and activate Steam keys on Origin. Of course, that is like getting a perfectly prepared steak at a restaurant, then sending it back to the kitchen asking for it well-done.

Oh there have been plenty especially about the hooligan violence. Basically, people become pack animals when in groups like that, reminds us of primitive times.

Ha ok, I guess the fans of his team are on the other side of the stadium?

That's what made it so glorious. He scores the goal in front of his home fans and then sprints the length of the field to celebrate in front of the Arsenal fans at the other end of the stadium (the team he had just left). So good.

Wait, just because I have access to a PC I also have to vote for games on that platform even though I think they aren't top 10 candidates?

I've been doing it all wrong all these years voting for games I thought were the best that I played that year.

Like console warz.... but followed by and played by billions.

I don't understand.
We are in 2014 and here we are, with again a simplistic shooter where it's all about lonewolving. Where the game modes are simply a copy paste of other shooters. Where the maps are small. Where the environment is static as hell.
Is this the next-gen gameplay we were waiting?

agreed on these points. the game doesn't look to hot graphically either.

most of all though, it really looks like a CoD mod with mechs, which I am not really excited for. The gunplay, atmosphere, pace, UI, etc are all very reminiscent of cod.

Not really what I am referring to. Just pointing out the low amount of votes for compelling games like Gone Home, Papers Please, and Dota 2. Gone Home alone topped other GOTY lists, but barely even made the top 20.

Looking at what actually made the top 10 and the low interest in some of these games, you can extrapolate that people who play on PCs on GAF are the minority. You would expect those numbers to even out if there were a more even distribution on the forum.

Looks like my plan will be to buy Titanfall on Origin, and then take the product key to unlock it on Steam when (if?) it comes to Steam.

That can't happen, you are mixing things up.

Steam version will be completely standalone, though you will be able to activate the key on Orign in all likelihood.

It will not be Steamworks though, so keys from Amazon, GMG, Origin, will not activate on Steam.

yep

you can only eject like that when your titan is about to die

Actually you can self-destruct and eject by pressing up on the d-pad. Did that a few times by mistake when people were rodeo-ing my titan and I wanted to get out to shoot them off.

This game looks amazing. My only two complaints are the constant coms chatter and one-hit-kill melees.

If you believe that, I have an island to sell you.

Lack of interest and hypercritical commentary in the face of GAFers reporting that the game is indeed excellent is now in many cases a way to feel a bit better about not being able to play the game on their preferred platform. Contrary to what some in this thread want to believe or suggest, not everyone wants to play on PC. Not everyone enjoys kbm gameplay, and playing with a controller against people using a kbm is an objective disadvantage. I'm not sure for how many picking up a last gen port is a desirable option either.

From my purview, the lack of interest directly coincides with the revelation it was now no longer coming to Sony systems as expected. It put everyone aback, but at least people could be honest about it. At least to themselves. Hating in the game itself -- which has generated nothing but satisfaction from those actually playing it -- seems misplaced and even vindictive at times. I'm pretty sure some boo birds would only take a less emotional and more objective perspective if Evilore himself came in and said, "this game is the shit." Maybe not even then.

Considering that it is running on a source engine, I would imagine a steam release would happen, right?
No, it will be on Origin, just like every other EA game.

I imagine that in the frantic battles the com becomes background chatter, but since we're watching and not playing it's a lot more apparent. Though I did find it odd that they announced it every 15 seconds in the last minute.

Though I love the little AI chatter in the titans themselves.

No single player in this one, but they do have single player elements mixed with multiplayer.
The chatter does seem excessive when paired with actual mic communication. They might want to consider scaling that back.

I can see the point of the detractors, and I can't disagree. The game is very much an evolution of COD in my eyes. The difference is that it's gotten to a point where it's much more palpable to me. The map mobility combined with Titans as both a killstreak and deathstreak (since you'll always eventually get one) mechanic are what's pulling me in.

Just add more purpose and interactions with the AI (I saw one video where a player jumped on a Spectre and instead of killing it, he hacked it, and hacking the one brought the whole group of three onto this side) and more maps like Fracture that make it much easier to have Titan frontlines and I'll be golden. Or maybe I should see how any Attack/Defend mode shapes up.

It looks like a lot of fun. I can't wait to see some single player footage!

Will it come to Steam? I would like to know!

I don't know, just going off the fact that EA partner titles have released on Steam before.

You think there are less people that play on PC than on Vita or Wii U here on GAF? I think the Steam sales thread is very active, but maybe those are just the same people again and again?
Maybe those games just didn't resonate with the regular audience that participates in those votes as much as a game like Super Mario 3D World and Tearaway which have a very low install base and get ridiculed all the time on here for their poor sales. :-P

The only game of the above that I voted for was DOTA 2 and that was just me giving respect to Valve for implementing the best F2P model that currently exists anywhere. I don't enjoy the game myself that much.

Looks fun as hell. Looking like it plays like COD with robots isn't exactly a bad thing. I like the COD series, been following the series since the beginning (and IW before that) but it's not the gameplay itself I find bad or boring. The games themselves just haven't been as good since COD4 and BO1 in my opinion. The maps haven't been as good and the balance has never been as good either. A lot of people have felt the same way (well more with a lot preferring COD4/MW2) for a long time.

Even then saying that this is 'COD with robots' does them a bit of desservice I feel, going by footage anyway. With the verticality around the levels, the balance in gameplay with controlling a mech/being outside on foot and the various interactions that can happen it just looks to have a different vibe as well. It feels like a team that is hungry to change up the formula that they created and that's fine by me.

Saying that, the proof is in the pudding so I look forward to playing it anyway :)

this gif is interesting, an actual railgun
you don't see those in console shooters normally, usually it's only hitscan bullet vomit or splash damage (then again I guess the aimbot will be agressive enough to still make it work)

Has it been confirmed that this game will have aim assist? I was hoping that KZ:Shadowfall marked the end of that shitty practice. There's no reason to have aim assist in FPS's on consoles.

No, it will be on Origin, just like every other EA game.

Not necessarily.

Game is being published under EA Partners, which generally have clauses for self-publishing the game. Respawn has also been deflecting the issue rather than flat out telling us no.

There is a distinct possibility this game will see a Steam release, nothing more.

Just going by statistics, not applying any other logic to the situation.

If we had more PC players, you would expect the numbers to even out, rather than skew completely in the opposite direction.

Ahh I see. I can kinda see why they are going with Source. Hopefully that will make the move to new Source so much easier.
If they were able to use Frostbite, they would have to deal with the awful 10 per second tick rate that DICE have trouble improving.
(Also known as "shit net code" or "terrible hit detection")
DICE lead technical scripter said:
I don't have those numbers at the moment. The thing is that with the other problems we have, increasing the send rate probably wouldn't even help that much. We need to focus on fixing the problems first, then we can take another look at this.
