Led Zeppelin releases cryptic new image, fans set themselves up for disappointment

It's a new album. I have no doubt.

Led Zeppelin IV was legendary, so they probably decided to follow it up in some form.

But this will fall on its face. BADLY. You can't recapture a moment in history like that. A 68 year old can't write a song like a 27 year old. You're in a completely different state of mind. The world around you has changed. This is either just trying to cash-in by pandering to an aging fanbase, or them going through a crisis and trying to prove something to themselves.

I wish they'd let it be. (Pun intended.) All this can do is damage their legacy.

A 27 yr old is a musician, 68 year old is a maestro. I say as long as they're not singing Tony Bennett or Frank Sinatra, do whatever feels good.

There was a follow up to IV. It was called Houses of the Holy.

Apparently this is just DVD of the 2007 concert.

I was there, on the floor, standing 5 rows back. I still remember how every song was played that night.

Save your "lol" and witty comments. This night was fantastic... and now five years later the world will get to see it.

Very jealous. I wanted to go!

What's witty about it? They're rock gods and they were on top of the world. Their prime performances still stand to this day, and will continue to do so for anyone that wishes to see them. Anything they do today is just a gift for the fans, and while a nice gesture, I'd rather artists not do that.

I'm so jealous of the people who got to see it. It must have been totally surreal.

Anyway, I will definitely be there in the theater. This will be great!

I will probably see this way too many times. Can't wait.

My son, who is only three years old, loves watching The Song Remains the Same. It's probably weird that he does, but he has one of those kid-sized guitars that he plays while he watches. Might even take him to this.

Probably Jimmy Page fussing over every last detail. It's probably much better for it, but yeah, he's totally obsessive.
Indeed.

He's been working on a new album for over a decade.

At least we heard some ideas he had for it sort of recently though:

I suspect he's mostly holding out from developing his music further to try and entice Plant for a new Zeppelin album, but that won't happen.

Everyone "plagirises". They've always been up front about it. Doing covers and variations of old songs was the standard thing to do for blues musicians for years before LZ was doing it.

Also "good artists borrow great artists steal"
Pretty much.

Most of the "stolen" stuff are a few bits and bobs, mostly as homage to their heroes.

The only thing that does bother me is Dazed and Confused, but that has recently been settled in court.

Vancouver show at Scotia Theatre was a disaster. Single channel MONO sound at whisper volume. Very little done by theatre until 5-6 songs in although many were standing and yelling in protest. 2 free passes does not fix not seeing Celebration Day tonight. Seems like many North American theatres had fuck ups tonight but International seemed fine.

About 30% of the people walked out after they stopped it after 5-6 songs.

Saw this tonight, volume sucked first song, manager came in gave up "thumbs up turn the volume up" and they cranked it, sounded much better.

Our show was a mess. Literally MONO sound at whisper volume. It sounded like a mono performance from transistor radio. I went and grabbed staff immediately in the the first song. 3-4 staff later, yes even the managers. Many were standing, yelling, etc. They stopped the film after 5-6 songs. It was a PR mess. Hey at least it wasn't like some of the full theatres that got a kill screen with digital unlock codes.

The manager had the nerve to tell the theatre "The sound is fine it's on full volume. The digital files we got must have been incorrectly mastered." Immediately I yelled out, "I trust Jimmy Page with audio mastering & sound engineering."

When I and about 30% of the theatre walked out it seemed some stayed to continue to watch a sub-par experience. Do people not have standards anymore ?

As a big Zeppelin fan I'm debating if I should see this in the cinema, or just wait for the Blu-ray release.

I can't find any cinemas locally showing it anyway.

I saw it just now, and I must say it was great, at least when the sound was sorted out...

The sound was far too quiet, but luckily a few people went to complain and it was cranked up shortly after Black Dog.

So on the topic of Led Zeppelin, is the 1993 remaster better than 2007 one? not sure what box set to buy.

They are both actually from the original remaster Page did in 1990.

The '07 Mothership compilation is actually louder & heavier, I think.
Page is apparently remastering the whole catalog again to upgrade the sound for next year. The albums are coming out with extras. Not sure if there will be another box set, but my money would be on "yes".

Might be better just to wait, unless you just really want your Led Zep fix now (and/or you are getting one as a Christmas present).

I don't know if its already been mentioned or not, but Page, Plant and Jones are going to be on Letterman tonight.

My wife's friend from high school is the violinist for the White House. He did a Led Zeppelin arangement the other night and was quite surprised when John Paul Jones walked up to talk with him!

I wish...

I would love if they announced they were playing this...

I have a hard time believing the O2 show was good. Everything I've heard from it has sounded awful and Plant's voice sounds terrible on Zep songs. Being a GNR fan, I'm no stranger to awful vocal performances, and Plant sounds really bad when he gets even close to that register. I feel like it is going to be one of those shows that seemed amazing in person, but listening back isn't that good.

Page and Plant would be pretty boss, though.

alright thanks. I don't mind waiting awhile, I might just get the 2 disc compilation for now.

I was there. It was incredible.

Hopefully they do Genesis style remasters, with a second disc containing surround sound mixes, interviews, live footage and other bonus material.

Pink Floyd Immersion style stuff could be good as well, but as long as they do them for all of the albums and not as stupidly expensive.

I already have the original albums as well as the 1990 and 1993 boxed sets, so I'll only buy next years ones if they include bonus material.
