Left handed people...I have a question

I don't think we count in this thread do we?

I'm in the same boat. I eat and write left handed, but do literally everything else right handed, including my games. I don't use Southpaw.
Pretty sure this applies to most people who are left-handed.
We get used to whatever we're forced to use. I think that's why lefties are more likely to be 'cross-dominant' (that is, using one hand for some tasks and the other hand for other tasks). Scissors for example pretty much always come right handed, so we just develop more dexterity in our right hands to compensate. I can usually use either hand interchangably for most general tasks, it's anything that takes a lot of fine dexterity (like writing) that's a real pain.

That's understandable. Holding a writing instrument in the opposite hand and using it precisely can be very difficult. I've resigned myself to not pick up KI even though I really want to play it. I have 2DS so I'd have to modify the CPP and KI is kind of expensive now I think. Sigh. Nintendo should port it to Wii U.

I played KI: Uprising with the stylus in my left hand, and using the face buttons for movement. My movement was less precise than if I had a slide-pad, and accessing powers was less convenient, but I still could dodge and shoot accurately. I think the biggest problem for people playing KI:U is not adjusting the control sensitivity and scroll box to their preferences. A few fine adjustments can make the game's controls a lot more comfortable.

As a right-hander, it never made too much sense to me the way normal game controllers in the NES era and beyond were laid out anyway. If I use a flight stick, my right hand is controlling the stick. If I'm playing Atari, my right hand is working the stick. I have no problem using right hand on stick for arcade games and left hand for buttons, or the other way around. I'm hardly ambidextrous, I'm guessing it's trivial enough that most people would have no problem with the switch if they gave it an hour. Doing shit like that is good for your brain anyway.

I think I would need an analog stick/slide pad to move comfortably. Having a single input device instead of 4 buttons would probably work for me. I tried using buttons for movement before in Metroid Prime Hunters demo on DS. That didn't go well. I'll remember your control adjustment tip if I ever take the plunge.

Thing is, I'd assume you need more dexterity with your left hand to use an analogue stick or a dpad even, as opposed to just pressing buttons with your right hand which isn't exactly demanding (in terms of precision at least).
So actually controllers might be more adapted to lefties :p

No probs here an I'd never consider even trying a "reverse" controller cause I can't do twin stick games at all cause it feels so unnatural doing important things with the right stick/hand x.x;

Can't say I've really had any difficulty with any specific controller relating to handedness. XBOX huge heavy controllers suck but thats unrelated! PS's symmetrical is the best but no probs with unsymmetrical ones like DC/GC an stuff!

Only problems I have had are DS/3DS games that require use the stylus with the right hand. For example, Super Training in Pokemon X/Y, ORAS is a pain for me.

And the other problem was Skyward Sword. Found it a little too difficult to use the control scheme.

With the intruction of sticks into console controllers i initially struggled as i prefered a "south paw" setup to movement and aiming, (Aim with left, move with right) however at the time few games actually supported that and switching back and forth between setups was ackward, muscle memory being what it is. eventually i sat myself down in front of a shooter, (Halo 2 i believe) and just forced myself to get accustom to the setup. Eventually it become normal for me.

On the PC i have my mouse in my left and and use the arrow keys instead of WASD. my Razer Naga Left handed edition is a godsend.

I... I had no idea that they made these.

Are they still available?

<<< keypad warrior, too. (Lefty Deathadder)

CPP made KI a sheer joy.

And twin stick shooters without a reverse stick option are a no go for me, period.

One slightly odd issue I have is that I cannot do button mashing with my right hand at all. I have to adjust myself so that I can use my left hand, which can be annoying in games that don't give you the time to do that.

Other than that, like most other people have side, it's just the DS stylus and wii remote that I hold lefthandedly.

I had issues with Guitar Hero, but no problem with normal controllers.

I wanted to feel like this :(

emm, you're aware that there are lefty options in both Guitar Hero and Rock Band?? it inverts the buttons, and you can Jimi'up.

as a left handed myself, and as others have pointed out, I only had troubles with Kid Icarus 3DS, Metroid Prime Hunters on DS and had some issues on Skyward Sword, but I got used to it pretty quick (except for the bomb throwing and bowling, I still have no idea how to do that properly with my right hand)

I'd forgotten the "joys" of playing a canonically left-handed character, with a right-handed layout. :/

This is the principle reason I gave up on Skyward Sword. It was maddening. I eventually went cross-handed, for most of the parts that I played, iirc.

My brother is left handed and for the most part, he puts up with the basic controls of most games, but when he played Halo (on OG xbox) with the southpaw controls, he couldn't play any other shooter without some sort of southpaw option, it totally killed his interests in any other shooter if it didn't have it.

makes me think of how we drive on the right in America, but they drive on the left in England. both righties and lefties handle that situation fine. although driving a car with a manual transmission is tough for us lefties.

Never even thought about it in terms of controllers.

Only issues for me is using the stylus on 3DS as I always want to use my left hand

and freaking Xbox One cases haha!

Huh... I would love to try driving a manual car using my right hand to shift..

I'm a lefty. always used the right hand controls and also use my computer mouse with my right hand.

The only problems are some 3DS or DS games, because I hate to use the buttons instead of the cross when I switch to lefthand input. I just can not use the stylus with my right hand.
I can only agree touch controls mixt with standard controls are the horrible. But then again I'm a lefty who does most things like right handed people exept the few things that don't feel right. But I can see it being a problem when i watch other lefthanders struggle with useing a mouse.

No problem with controllers at all. Too bad joysticks for flight/space sims are such a niche market, because that's where I wish there was a left-handed version.
