Considering we already knew this was the last season it doesn't really make it bad for us, it's just sad that Nick wants to get rid of it so quickly. They've lost like all hope for the series.

Only way it could be bad, is if the production was rushed. I mean, it seems to me they already had the season paid for, for some time now. And they had already been in to production. I don't see why production should be rushed or cut short (in budget). I would assume that this thing is set in stone (in contracts). But then again, I have no idea how this sort of thing works behind the scenes.

October is way too soon. I wonder why Nick is rushing the series? Since it's already been recorded it's not like there's any damage to waiting. Plus, the platinum game is coming so that may drum up some interest. Honestly doesn't seem very smart =(

At this point I'm making excuses for myself. It's pretty obvious that with the way things are going Korra Season 4 is going out to die. Then there probably won't be another sequel of Avatar made which is really saddening.

What exactly makes you guys think that it will be the last season of the whole avatar franchise? I mean not saying I particularly expect it to go either way, but in a interview, the writes said something like when they left the last airbender, the world ended up drawing them back in again and they said they expect that/wouldn't be surprised if that happened again or something like that.

Because action cartoons are dead.

Who's doing the OT?

lol I think Satch should do it. Why mess with success?

EDIT: I'll make the OT if Satch really doesn't want to do it. But I really really think she should do it. Just because, I think it would be great for the final season to have the same person running the OT as all the other ones. And I truly think she did an amazing job, and don't think the threads would have been as amazing as they were without her. But if for whatever reason she doesn't want to do it, I'll step up and do it. I guess just let me know.

so that joke i made about season 4 appearing right after the nicktoons run (3 weeks of episodes starting on the 15th) due to incompetence is kinda gonna happen? :O :O :O

not sure if i should be happy or shake my fucking head due to nick just not giving a flying fuck..

I posted this on the Book 4 announcement thread because it might clear away some confusion.

Just that I realized that Nick did in fact order Book 3 and 4 as part of the same Season 2 of Korra. I remember this being confusing to fans when they announced it, but Bryan and Mike explained that Nick always thought of Book 1 and 2 as Season 1, even though the huge hiatus between those two Books makes it impossible for us to consider it as a Season.

But I guess, they did plan and produce Books 3 and 4 as a single season divided into two story arches, meant to air in the same year. Here's the original post:

The Legend of Korra has been picked up for an additional 26 episodes, which will be split into Books 3 & 4! Mike and I had been hoping to announce this big news to the crowd at the Korra SDCC panel tomorrow morning, but the network put out a press release yesterday. And as we suspected, people are pretty confused, understandably so. Hopefully people are also excited.

Initially, Nickelodeon picked up Korra as a 12-episode miniseries. Their idea was to do 12-episode arcs that were more standalone than the original Avatar series. Mike and I were cool with this idea, as we had originally wanted the seasons to be 12 episodes long instead of 20, and creatively we liked the idea of doing tighter story arcs.

The original plan was that if Nickelodeon wanted more episodes, they would order them 12 episodes at a time. But while we were in production on Book 1, Nickelodeon decided to change their season lengths from 20 episodes (like Avatar had) to the more standardized international length of 26 episodes. They liked how Book 1 was coming out and decided to round out the order to fit their new 26-episode mold, and we got a 14-episode pick-up, which became Book 2.

Then, the network wanted even more Korra, so they picked up another order of 26 episodes. Mike and I wanted to stick with the shorter “books,” so creatively we are splitting the second order of 26 into Books 3 & 4, 13 episodes each.

What makes this even more confusing is that the network considers each block of 26 episodes a “season,” which is another reason we try to stick to calling these Korra arcs “books.” So for the network’s purposes, Books 1 & 2 are Season 1, and Books 3 & 4 are Season

So there you go. From that point of view, it actually makes sense to release Book 4 just 42 days after the Book 3 finale. It's supposed to be the same season.

Wow, that's soon.

I'm already rewatching ATLA+Korra so I guess I can just slow down and try and finish in time for the next season.

EDIT: I see this gif getting a lot of use in this thread and the Smash thread(s) in a few weeks

Nickelodeon was not going to give a shit about Book 4, whether they started showing the episodes in October, or January or May 2015. Therefore, in that respect, starting Book 4 in early October is probably the most beneficial option for us, as we get the new Korra episodes much earlier than anticipated. However, I have no idea whether or not the early release date of the series will have seriously impacted (post-)production on Book 4. It also means that everybody behind the scenes is probably rushing to get a trailer (I don't think there has been a Book 4 trailer yet), and other promotional materials, released as quickly as possible.

Sad to see Nickelodeon treating Korra the way they do.

Cartoons are just there for the sole purpose of selling toys right? :(

It hasn't been that way for a long time. 80's cartoons were created for the purpose of selling toys. 90's cartoons were mostly created for stealth educational purposes. 2000's cartoons were also created to be semi educational but to also tell more mature stories.

I hope Mike and Bryan work on a new series with Netflix next.

One can hope but it should be interesting how long they wait before starting a new project after Korra is finished as they must be pretty burned out now from working on the show continuously for the past four years or so.

How about Legend of Korra Book 4: Balance |OT| Its Zaheer

I remember reading that. Thanks for jogging our memories. Honestly while I enjoyed this book I was fairly annoyed with how it had nothing to do with directly exploring the consequences of Book 2. I hope there is a big convergence on this subplot with the other 2 subplots with the earth kingdom sorting out its anarchy phase and the air nomads creating a more cosmopolitan global society.

Damn this thread moves fast when there are announcements.

Kinda happy in a selfish way that we're getting it soon, what the fuck has happened to this franchise though, would never have imagined it being screwed like this.
