He needs to play the bad guy for once. Playing a maverick cop (al pacino) or a by the book cop will wither be just a copy or waste of him. He's done it all before.

I don't really see him in any part of this...
he also already played the villain you love to hate (in django) so a waingro type of role is not interesting.

What a bizarre film to make a prequel.

Actually seeing maccauley and his team coming back from war unable to adjust to civil society and starting to walk the criminal path seems very interesting to me. But how can you find a young actor with enough charisma to play young deniro ? And of course pacino character would not be seen so you'd have to create a new cop character that is not a copy of Hanna but still interesting...

What a conandrum, i can't fathom how much of a daunting task it is to write the script for this one.

I thought it was great and it's been incredibly well-received. I'd absolutely recommend checking it out. If it's not your thing then that's a pity fair enough. But you never know, you might surprise yourself if you do check it out.

I haven't seen it, but it kind of just looks like his usual overacting Oscar bait, which is probably what puts me off of him so much.

I don't think he has the same Gravitas that a DDL has. I'd love to see him go full Tom Cruise, put on a fat suit and make a complete tit of himself, tropic thunder style.

If it helps, his character in OBAA is kinda ridiculous and has comedic elements. There's a slapstick element to the film. So he's not taking himself super seriously in it.

I'll see it eventually. I do enjoy BDT, and PTA has done great movies in the past.

But yeah, I just mean Leos whole shtick is kinda boring to me now.

I watched Heat for the first time a few years ago…thought it was super overrated.

Scene with DeNiro and Pacino in the coffee shop is legend.

The last hour of pretty much non-stop action and cat & mouse great too.

It does take a little while to find it's groove, but Pacino, DeNiro and Val Kilmer were perfectly casted. Great movie.

It's going to be very, very difficult to make a sequel just because of DeNiro & Pacino. They were amazing together in that movie, it was a huge thing to have them together.

Hard to beat the location for sure, but the sounds, the choreography, all that could be matched or exceeded with effort and will. In this era of CG muzzle flashes and impacts though, I don't think it ever will, as those things remove a lot of visceral feel while shooting, lower the bar for gun wrangling and actor skill on set, and very much make it feel like "play acting go pew pew". It lets little girls and wimpy men flop around with guns, no one knows or cares what background is doing so some CG artist adds in muzzle flashes to guys just standing around, the impacts are comical and don't get the camera weight and focus they should when it was a complex squib effect or a prop head exploding, it's all shit, really.

Again, why the fuck does this movie exist. It will be straight garbage. Another nostalgia cash grab based off of a shitty sequel book.

Can't believe DiCaprio and Bale signed up for this. You couldn't pay me to see it no matter who's in it. It'll just taint the memories I have of one of my top 3 movies of all time.

The CG they should be doing is removing protective eyewear or partitions, safety wires from stunt men, adding in distant impacts down range (like glass breaking across streets, stuff very few films ever bother with for obvious reasons but now could be shown), etc. But I feel that the risks of squibs and blanks FORCE the camera teams to treat gun fights like they would any dangerous stunt and that preparedness and deliberate intent comes across on screen. These days there would be jokers all over the place with random muzzle flashes and cg impacts that on one in camera eve knows about and isn't reacting to, versus the old days when the whole set would be covered in dust, balsa wood, and what not to simulate impacts. Every guy hit got their little bloody squib death scene, now some little girl runs across the screen, waving her gun wildly, and guys fall down with perfect CG head shots. Ugh.

And despite any technical authenticity for their use by tier 1 operators, suppressor equipped gun battles are BORING, shows need to stop doing them as well

TBF Mann and the entire cast knows how iconic that scene is, same with all the stunt coordinators, effects guys, production etc I have no doubt they'll all to their utmost to pay homage to it and bang out a decent set piece, whether the film itself will hold a candle to the original that's to be seen

That shootout will probably never be topped anyways. It's the one thing that makes me wish I had surround sound.

Christian Bale is a genuine A-lister. Like besides Thor love and thunder i can't think of a bad movie or his (and even then he was the best part of that movie)
