Sounds like he was trying to help the couple out, and it's come to bite him in the ass, which sucks. You have to be careful when doing nice things for people, they'll far too often turn the tables and take advantage.

This is why a parental opt-in system need to be implemented.

While it may be an unpopular opinion, it's one I subscribe to as well. If there was a system in place where he was given the choice to opt in or out of financial responsibility for the little one, he may not be in this situation. As is, he just impregnated someone, and probably doesn't have much recourse.
