Tokyo Jungle can be found on a PSN collection disk.

Wow, I had no idea. What a weird mash up of games, though. Not like the way Flow/Flower/Journey all feel like they belong together via the dev, or how a Pixel Junk collection might. Not like I can think of any PSN games that really fit with Tokyo Jungle.

That's cool. If I still had a PS3, I'd nab that.

the best game Sony Japan has made in like 10+ years

Well, I do love me some Demon's Souls, but I feel the same about Tokyo Jungle, so yeah.

Singularity is one of the best b-tier shooters from last gen. It's kind of a mix of Resistance 3, Half Life 2, and Bioshock all in one if I had to describe it.

I haven't played it since it released, but I also liked Stranglehold. Which is an earlier PS3 game with Max Payne-esque gameplay, and is basically a sequel to early 90s movie Hard Boiled.

I also liked Timeshift, another earlier PS3 game. It's a b-tier FPS that got buried by other shooters at the time, like Modern Warfare. I enjoyed it, but I do remember it got mixed reception from other people, so YMMV I guess.

If you are into or want to look into the hack and slash genre -- there are numerous musou games. The best of the bunch on PS3 are Dynasty Warriors 7, Dynasty Warriors 8, and Samurai Warriors 4, (IMO). Pirate Warriors 2 is also pretty decent.

Alice: Madness Returns was a lot of fun. I really dug the art and the main character.

The Army of Two games are something I always appreciated. Haven't played much of the third yet, but the first two were good fun with some funny jokes here and there. I loved how ridiculous those games were.

Also adding to the chorus of love for 3D Dot Game Heroes, and Binary Domain

Tears to Tiara II Heir of the overlord
Fairy Fencer F
Disgaea(wait for 5 on ps4)
+1 for all the Tales of game
A bunch of NISA games are worth checking out
Is armored core B tier?

apart from that I'm going blank

It is pretty weird. I think they were going to release more volumes but it never happened.

Why so many thumbs up for NIER? What does it compare to gameplay wise?

It's a lot like Kingdom Hearts in terms of the combat, with some bullet hell thrown in. The story is what makes it so good. It's unconventional, inventive, and is one that's difficult to talk about without ruining the experience. Also the soundtrack is incredible. So, I'll add a vote for that.

My vote goes to WWE All Stars if you even like wrestling a tiny bit. The most fun grappler I've ever played, and I hear almost nobody talk about it. Get some friends over and it is a huge blast.

Action RPG
Bullet Hell
Isomeric RPG
Novel
Horror

It's a unique game with a very good story. Go play it and don't search for anything else. It's a much better experience if you go knowing nothing

Nier
Folklore
Puppeteer (flash sale $3 right now)
Sleeping Dogs (is this obscure?)
Vanquish
Enslaved
Binary Domain
Great choices BUT Enslaved is really bad on PS3. A real technical mess. It's a great experience but I don't think it could be recommended on PS3.

I would recommend Tears to Tiara 2, it's a neat little SRPG. Doesn't reinvent the wheel or anything when it comes to the genre, but it's worth playing if you can track down a copy.

Must be a nitpicky thing, 'cause I played it all on PS3 and didn't have any specific problems with it.
I mean, that's fine, but it runs under 30fps with loads of tearing at almost all times. It's very rarely smooth. Just a warning for those bothered by such things.

Because of the story and setting, and how the game screws with your perception of events through multiple play throughs. If you can get down with an action Rpg it's WELL worth playing, it's not your regular kind of adventure.

Also, Folklore is a must-have. Get it while you still can, it'll only get rarer.

Thanks for the recommendation. Looked it up and it looks really interesting. Never heard of it before and I just decided to order it. Something about it really speaks to me.

Many people recommend NieR. But the game is to expensive to just try. Used copies cost 50€ and more (Germany). No digital version. I really hope they remake it in time for NieR 2. It's a game I would really like to try some time. But not at that cost.

Yea, ICO is boring as hell and SotC is decent. Not even close to the worst Souls game

Hahah. You are a funny man.

Look, the Souls series is literally my favorite series ever, but that is just ridiculous. ICO and Shadow of the Colossus are two of the best experiences of this industry. Masterpieces in every possible way.

Btw, Miyzaki himself once said that ICO was his inspiration to create the Souls series.

Some really great suggestions in here. A couple I haven't seen listed yet though:

Earth Defense Force 2025 - I loved 2017, but didn't really care for Insect Armageddon. 2025 is a return to the campy, strange, insect shooter goodness.

Prince of Persia (2008) - A lot of people didn't like it at the time, which I don't really get. Yeah, it's a bit easy, but it's just so pretty and just mellow. Their "Epilogue" DLC could be seen as kind of sleazy, but it's still a great game.

Driver: San Francisco - This is one that I haven't played a whole lot yet, but the concept is pretty awesome. The main character is in a coma so he doesn't physically drive any cars, but he takes over people's minds that are driving their own cars. It's way different than the earlier games, but it redeems the Driver franchise, imo.

Sad to see no one posted this but i'm not surprised

Its great great fun, especially sitting on a couch with friends trying to perfect movie scenes, trading off every failure.

Controls are a bit wonky, but once you figure it out its so much fun
