Lesser known PS1 games you loved back in the day

KINGSLEY's ADVENTURE

The game is similar to The Legend of Zelda series, in the sense that players are given a quest and have to explore certain areas of the game's overworld using a sword and a crossbow (both being upgradeable during the adventure). Young knight Kingsley, a fox swordsman, is sent to protect the Fruit Kingdom from warlock Bad Custard. The game starts with a cutscene of a puppet show where dark fruit is shown attacking the Fruit Kingdom, then it shows Kingsley; the main character the player controls. This, along with the ending scene, are the only cutscenes in the game.

The Divide- Enemies Within- pretty much a 3D homage to Super Metroid. The atmosphere, level design, ambient music, even that elevator... not brilliant but an interesting little gem.

Brahma Force- Assault on Beltlogger 9- awesome first-person adventure game. It's got tons of upgrades, secrets, platforming, cool atmosphere, and nice level design that gives you freedom to explore and doesn't feel like a series of mazelike samey-halls like most games from that era. Lots of use of 3D space.

Remote Control Dandy is the first PSone game that comes to my mind, when I think about hidden gems.

I can't even say if it's known to be a good game, but I loved the idea, it made me love Sandlot and most of their games that came out after RCD.

Some (demo) action here.

These two probably aren't that obscure to most, but I loved these games:

Loved those 2 , I beat dino crisis import version with no guide, I felt a sense of accomplishment lol

I don't know how popular it was because although it's a big series now I never hear people talk about it, but Soul Blade was one of my favorite PS1 games. I sunk a seriously unhealthy amount of hours into it.

VR/Special Missions/The third disc of MGS Integral and Intelligent Cube are also two of my favorites, but they've both been mentioned.

I'll also mention In Cold Blood, which was the Broken Sword' guys taking a stab at something a little more Metal Gearish, it's not as good as the BS games, but I really enjoyed it. Heart of Darkness in that similar vain too, kind of a spiritual sequel to Out of This World.

Hm, going to have to agree with not considering either Dino Crisis or Syphon Filter lesser known. Same goes for The Legend of Dragoon (which sold well over a million copies worldwide). No problems with them being loved, though.

Spriggan: Lunar Verse.

Amazing, badass sf action-rpg. Jp only. Would pay ONE MILLION DOLLARS for a remake.

Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere Japanese version

The jp was released on 3 or 4 cd's and was packed with deep story with tons of high quality anime cutscenses in the ghost in the shell style. Not to mention hours of voice acting.
They've cut everything from the game for western release and stripped to 1cd with a set out of contest missions.
Biggest gaming crime ever happened!

I remember this having a cool unlockable characters and a rating system on the missions of some sort. I didn't know what was going on in the game but it was cool I guess.

Remember asking my parents to hire this for me. Use to think it was called energizer.

All i could ever remember bout this game was when u fell in the water ur gun would gurgle trying to shoot, Only just found it listed online after wanting to know the name these past few years.

I love you.

Thank you, I think you're nice!
I remember getting stuck for like a week trying to figure out where to go after I got to the mountain top area and was supposed to cure Samson. The random encounters were brutal later on, but nonetheless I loved it.

Man, so many memories. I loved Nightmare Creatures, game was pretty awesome. I also remember really, really wanting to buy Johnny Bazookatone and Rapid Reload, but I'm kinda glad I didn't, seeing that JB looks pretty awful, and Rapid Reload seems way too hard for me. I played the demos of Motorhead, Micro Machines, Pandemonium! and Fade to Black too, and the first three were fun, but I didn't like confusing and clunky gameplay of Fade to Black.

The PS1 really did have an amazingly diverse library of games.

PS: Gex 3D was awesome. Liked it way more than Mario 64 (which I still don't think is a particularly good game)

Edit: Oh, just noticed some other games. Had the demos of G Darius, Rollcage and Wild 9 too. Good shit. I had Alien Trilogy too, and shit was so cash. And Motor Toon Grand Prix, man, I wish Polyphony would make a sequel before starting GT6. MTGP was awesome. I had Tobal no. 1 too, and it was.. not very good.

I also remember playing Krazy Ivan on the PS1, and the game pretty mech blew.

Edit 2: Oh ho, I had Duke Nukem 3D: Total Meltdown too for the PS1. I'll have to snag a copy off Amazon later today. Loved the re-recorded music.

This game was amazing~ because of a misunderstanding you become the master of an "evil" castle.

The entire game is just different hunters/monsters coming after you while you design your castles floor plan and set up traps that you have to lure enemies into.

Best junior ever. LOVED this game.

Just saw this one, 4 PLAYER ONLINE CO-OP REMAKE THIS AND I WILL BUY MILLION COPIES.

Perfect combo of strategy and Worms-style of craziness. Oh, I will also buy Hogs Of War.

Well obviously. I'd say "lesser-known" means anything under Crash Bandicoot, you know, the games that didn't survive to the next gen or were quirky sidesteps from original series (like Micro Maniacs).

How 'bout WILD 9 (I really liked this one) or ODT (hated it)

Hells yeah!

yeah this game was awesome. It's biggest downside was that it was over in about half an hour. Playing with Strider Hien (I think that was his name) was awesome though.

Came here to post this, but GAF never fails I guess. :D

I see some people posting battle arena toshiden I owned that game, but though it was vastly inferior to Soul Blade(edge).

How did this topic go without mentioning this?

Tomba!%20%5BU%5D%20%5BSCUS-94236%5D-front.jpg

I loved Tomba because of its rich 2-D graphics for its time and its platforming.

To be honest there are very few "lesser-known" PSX games to me (and I assume a lot of people the same age as me.)

I'm guessing there's too many 90s-born kids on GAF who find anything not from a major (and still relevant) franchise to be "lesser known."

Spawn was garbage on PS1. I bought it and I remember despite loving the comic, I was hugely disappointed in the game.

And some of the games mentioned aren't' exactly unknown. FF7 remark is just plain ignoring the OP. Don't bother even posting if you're gonna do that. Some are looking for some on topic conversation.

Only rented this, but remember really enjoying it.

Lots of angry 2 player games in this one..

ok... I think I have to face it. this gen sucks compared to the last 2 gens. I used to say that this gen is awesome with it's blockbuster games and lots of games I genuinely love. but this thread make me realize that there's very little variety outside of the big budget compared to PS1 and PS2 days.

Bog said:
You do know they're still making sequels, right?

I absolutely know they're still making sequels to Persona, yeah. The thread's about lesser known PS1 games from back in the day, though, and until 2007 - over a decade after the original came out - did anyone give a flying fuck about Persona 1? Not so much. I also addressed that in, like, the first line of my post.

Wow, so many memories seeing some of these games. Spider, D, G-Police, Fade to Black, One, Nightmare Creatures, Bushido Blade...remember playing all those games when I was a kid and loving them.

Also loved the original Warhawk.
