Rosco McQueen! Amazing game. Just thinking about it makes me want to pick it up again.

Probably not all that obscure but...

No, I think it's pretty obscure. At the time, it was a pretty big deal, but ask most gamers nowadays and they'll think you're talking about the book. Such a beautifully animated game.

Guess I'll add a few of my own:

Also didn't get to play this until years later, but it's so over-the-top... The kinda thing I could imagine playing right alongside the best of the Bomberman series.

That looks neat, but jesus is it expensive. :(

loved it.

I think about this game and how much freedom if let the player have in a fighting game. If you are outclassed or simply don't want to fight, chop your opponents leg up and just run away. Brilliant!

I love this thread. So many things I want to go back and play again, and so many things I've always been meaning to try.

I completely agree with Power Shovel, LAPD Future Cop, Thrasher, Micro Machines V3, Policenauts, and Crusader No Remorse. All amazing games that somehow slipped under the radar.

Another interesting title which I used to adore:

Fluid

It's only ¥600 on the Japanese PSN store.

So I went from sad at seeing the prohibitive price...
... to happy with that comment....
... to sad again remembering that PSN is still down.

When it does come back up, how easy is it to add points to a JPN account?

Did Red Asphault have terrible controls? It looks like a game I played back then but I remember it having a terrible control scheme where you had to press 2 face buttons or something to accelerate.

I absolutely adore this game, while not exactly obscure, it's way lesser known than other PSX RPGs like Final Fantasy (7-9) , Xenogears or Vagrant Story.

A really challenging and fun game, this series is considered to be the spiritual predecessor to Demon's Souls.

This was the best game on the PS1, I don't care what anyone says. I'm never going to let go of my copy.

And my vote goes to this gem

Tiny_Tank_Coverart.png

It wasn't the greatest game, but what it lacked in gameplay it made up for in humor. It almost was a spoof of the entire mascot gaming market.

I still love the intro.

Tiny Tank

Its a cute killing machine.

Everybody knows about the platformers, but I don't think the mini-game collection is as well known. I enjoyed playing it with friends, and it was pretty cool that the developers put a story mode(with co-op!) in there, complete with bosses for each world.

Some great suggestions in this thread. Going to keep me busy catching up!

I'd love to see a new Rollcage game. Split/Second was the closest there has been recently, I think.

My list, most of which have already been mentioned:

Bishi Bashi Special
Great multi-player party/mini-game compilation.

Circuit Breakers
Similar to MMV3 and Supersonic Racers, sitting somewhere between the two.

Circuit%20Breakers%20%5BU%5D%20%5BSLUS-00697%5D-front.jpg

Crash Team Racing
Great Mario Kart clone. Excellent multi player.

Die Hard Trilogy
Three for the price of one.

Motor Toon Grand Prix 2
Fantastic racer from Polyphony.

Panzer Front
Tank war sim. Deep and difficult.

Panzer%20Front%20%5BU%5D%20%5BSLUS-01399%5D-front.jpg

S.C.A.R.S.
Decent racer with vehicles that are animal based. Kind of like ExciteBots!

S.C.A.R.S.%20%5BU%5D%20%5BSLUS-00692%5D-front.jpg

Sheep, Dog 'n' Wolf
Really chilled platform puzzler. Holds up well today. Currently playing this one.

Speed Freaks
Great Mario Kart clone. Recently completed this.

Tenchu: Stealth Assassins
Stealth ninja game. Great atmosphere.

Tomba!
2.5D platformer with crazy sense of humour. The sequel wasn't quite as good IMHO, but is still worth playing.

Umihara Kawase Syun
Sequel to SNES grappling hook platformer. Serious skills required.

This was an enjoyable 3D update of Robotron: 2084. I'd love to see it get a new makeover with enhanced HD graphics moving at 60 fps, dual analog stick support, and online scoreboards.

While we're talking about updated classics, we also shouldn't forget this one:

This was an enhanced port of the Atari Jaguar game Tempest 2000. While I think T2K on the Jaguar is a bit better overall, this game was still worth playing as well, and had lots of new music.

Fucking LOVED this game back in the day.

The most crazy thing is that there was a very well hidden extra scenario in the game involving playing as a female character that I didn't even know existed until after a few years of me playing this game.

Team Buddies, Micro Manaics and a Multi-tap occupied a good portion of my early teenage years. I was always very amused at how my friend's edition of Team Buddies had them far more foul-mouthed. The game had really good lines too "You slap me like a bitch I'll slap you like a bitch!" "I don't know what makes you so stupid but it's working!"

Another shout out to Trap Gunner from me, that game was just awesome. "Searching for love..."

Another brilliant kart racer on the PS1. We (PS1 only owners) didn't have Mario Kart, but we certainly had lots of great alternatives (Speed Freaks, Crash Team Racing, Muppet RaceMania).

It's the only one I have played, but it was so goddamn annoying when your super digimon turned into a pile of shit that attacks by throwing shit or something middle of an dungeon.

since no one else seems to have mentioned it, and since it didn't come out in the US, i'm going to guess this counts as obscure. <3 vibribbon.

Vib Ribbon was mentioned at least once, but I wonder if anyone has played Mobjib-Ribbon / Vib Ribble? They came out for PS2 but never landed in EU/US. Come on NanaOn-Sha, Vib Ribbon for PSN and new Parappa for PSN/XBLA!!

Saddened that the saturn ver of this game never made it to the US.

The game is great. I also read that the localization was shady... wish there was a re-release.

What do you mean shady? They did remove all alcohol references so that made some dialog a bit hilarious and the voice work is pretty horrible at times. Was there something else? Loved the game, though. One of the most memorable JRPG's for PS1.

Going rough this thread is making me want to add funds in my Japanese account again. I am still baffled that Omega Boost, Tomba, Panzer Bandit and the rest of the Goemon games have yet to arrive on the service.

Also it is really making me hate this generation. Imagination was running in it's purest form that generation with so much style and diversity that is completely absent in this console cycle.
