Let's debate a Halo 5 plot point (Huge Halo 5 Spoilers)

So basically she wants to end all war and self inflicted suffering throughout the whole galaxy. What's so wrong with that? I mean, wouldn't that just basically be a giant, universal utopia?

The only people that would be subjected to the guardians would be enemies to this idea.

Seriously, what's so wrong with this?
 
Because the means of achieving this is basically through a massive purge. Unless I misunderstood that.
 
I guess it's a tyrannical way of enforcing peace?

Peace that's not earned but thrust upon people so they can't appreciate what it really means to fight for peace.

Or, it's just a stupid ass plotpoint.

She does look good in that armour though.
 
Nothing wrong really but I haven't played Halo for a long time. Does she want to kill everyone to achieve this? If so sounds like Amon from Starcraft 2 :P
 
Of course she's right. Also the flood was right. Also (a bit unrelated) Jul M'dama was right about humanities devious ways.(villain be right in this franchise)

As much as I disliked 343i's execution of the Cortan's plot line, I feel like the conclusion she drew is logical (yet hypocritical at the same time)

Edit: i think in the novels BB said something like "if wars were lead by AI instead of people, we'd decide almost instantly to end the conflict and work to solve other issues...
 
The only way Cortana would be able to this is by creating a very repressive galaxy-wide society.

-Limited Freedom of speech
-Limited independence of factions or species (or non at all)

The Galactic Empire started off doing the same thing in Star Wars. Look how that turned out,
 
I haven't read any posts in this thread or the OP, but saying "is Cortana right" is a huge spoiler in itself because it insinuates that Cortana is alive and kicking. Why couldn't you discuss this in the spoiler thread? I'm out, any replies can me sent to me via PM.

Let's look at it at a lower level than that, peace is forced upon us anyhow even today in a way. Don't drive fast or else you'll lose your driver's license, Follow the law or you'll be branded a criminal and end up being incarcerated. Then there is the entire idea of deterrence etc etc.

I'm not so sure about that. If there where a giant guardian hanging over earth, then we probably wouldn't have many of the problems we have today. We would only benefit from having something like that police governments, as long as their intentions are pure.
 
I'm glad I already beat the game because this title is a huge spoiler. Usually you should put the spoiler tag at the beginning of the title anyways.

And wow. That's a pretty lame plotline. Light had the same idea. Too bad he was batshit stupid.

How would Cortana even carry out such police "purely."

I'd like a nice, objective (and above all: comprehensive) definition of the above before I agree to shit.

Sounds to me like it could be used as justification for prohibiting a lot of activities.

The same issues that come with living in a police state would be present in a police Galaxy.... Except amplified.
 
She would get better results if she was naked, we're not paying any attention.

Anyway bit of Debbie downer but I thought whole plot was trite SF done dot death (and better) before.

Least MP is good and 60fps but SP narrative is a mess now.
 
It's sentiment you'd expect out of HYDRA, and it's wrong for the same reason. It's not really peace if you kill everyone who opposes you.

It's a pretty big deal, man. She supposedly died in Halo 4 and this title with "Huge Halo 5 Spoilers" can easily make you think she's still alive in Halo 5. You could PM a mod to change your Halo 5 spoiling title.
 
When the antagonist wants to "end suffering" and "usher in an age of peace", it usually means destroying everything to rebuild and/or stripping people of their free will so nobody can oppose them. There will never be "peace" with free will.

It's also ridiculously cliche.

Because the last time someone in the Halo universe took it upon themselves to acquire the Mantle of Responsibility it backfired spectacularly.

Also change the title. How you think it's not a big deal is more bizzare than someone thinking Cortana would be a benevolent General Krul.
 
I want the Flood to return. They were created as the ultimate 'solution' to the mantle (which is what Cortana is trying to claim)

Could be cool to see the two forces clash (Cortana/Warden/Gaurdians vs Graveminds/Flood/Precursors) with humanity and the other species caught in between. Maybe Halo 6
 
Forced peace is no peace at all.

Plus she totalled like 20 planets getting the guardians to her. Not cool.

They turned MC into a complete simp.
