Let's fix Halo 5's Controls (Post your control settings)

I haven't had much problems, unless I took a day or two off. But going between Halo and Tomb Raider probably didn't help. I'll watch for popular suggestions.

Ill play with it tonight, the fact that i even need to do this aggravates me. This is why i got a console, so i didn't have to do these things...

I use: inner deadzone 0%, outer deadzone default, acceleration default, sensitivity 5. I've only played a couple of Warzone games since the update but these ended up feeling the most natural for now (ended up keeping acceleration and sensitivity as before).

I usually used slightly lower sensitivities (3-4) in the other Halo games and an Elite controller with a tall right stick if that helps.

Inner deadzone at zero is nuts! You don't get any drift?

I may poke around with the setting, but I'm lazy. The controls felt weird, and I wasn't getting the right shots off like I thought I would, but I got used to it. Then all this news came out about the way aiming was set up.

I'm already used to it, I don't want to tinker with something that I feel doesn't need fixing anymore. But depending on everyone's feedback in this thread, I may give it a shot.

I learnt to like the default acceleration too but reducing the (inner) deadzone definitely helped me, you should give it a shot.

It would be really helpful if someone was able to list settings that mimic other FPS games. I had a really hard time transitioning to the aim settings in Halo 5 and ended up not playing much at all.

If we had profiles to mimic COD, Destiny, Battlefield, etc that would help a lot IMO.

Surely that's a good thing? I have no problem with the way the game feels and have been able to maintain a decent ratio considering I solo queue. Now for the people who haven't been able to adapt, you can tweak the controls however you want.

Nice to have options but controls shouldn't be a problem beyond a simple sensitivity option for users. This isn't the right solution for the masses if something is off to begin with. For hardcore gamers and advanced settings, great but the wrong approach if you're catering to a big audience.

I find the analog stick settings fine as is....

I find the lack of Destiny's Bumper Jumper control scheme as an in game option still upsetting.

Yes you can change it in the OS button mapping settings, but them LB becomes the A button for the ENTIRE OS, which is annoying.

If only you could tell the button mapping app that you only want to apply that mapping to X game... It'd be perfect.

The masses will never even notice that you can even change the sensitivity. I literally didn't even open the menu to do anything aside from turn the subtitles on.

Isn't this a good thing then? You'd otherwise be unable to fix what's bothering you.

Most FPS controls don't bother me, though. That's his point.

Why release the game with muddy controls in the first place?

Anyway, this is a great thread. Still hoping to get my $60 worth so I'll definitely give this a shot (no pun intended). I haven't been able to make headshots in this game very easily.

Yeah basically, only 2 games that bothered me this year in terms of controls were this and the R6 Siege beta. Both of which have dead-zone settings. Ironic. Ill play with it tonight and try not to get aggravated in the process.

I'm kind of amazed they went through the trouble of providing these options. I can't imagine there being a large portion of the player base that would even notice these aspects of the game's controls.

This please

Anyone who has bought an Xbox in the last 4 or 5 months would notice these problems (the newer controllers with the headphone jacks)
All you had to do was play the game and tell it felt....off

Maybe play more than a few hours of arena. You will get better.

EDIT: that was in response to Lamonster.

Nah, why change something that is essentially universal across all other shooters? I'd rather be able to play other games comfortably than get used to Halo 5. In fact, that's why they released this update. Controls for Halo have always felt smooth as butter and 343 knows they messed up.

Dude has played 2 hours of arena. Post up your service record.

I can't agree with this. I'm level 54 (242 Arena games, 131 Warzone games), and I still fight the aiming. If I haven't gotten used to it by now, I never will in its original state. Thank God 343 listened and did something about it.

The controls even feel good in MCC. Like, what happened...

Ok im done. On with the settings people, and if you could provide how u usually play in other games with what you set here, that would be helpful

When i played BO3, Destiny i practically instantly got used to it. Took me 5 minutes. It doesnt take 20 hours to get used to controls. Theyre either good, or they're not.

Still whatever shipped with the game is what I use, but I think I increased sensitivity. I'd like to know what people are using if there is something all the pros agree on as well. To me, the game plays just like beta, but maybe I don't remember the minute details of aiming.

Will also buy an Elite controller if they come into stock.

To be honest my aiming/acceleration felt fine after that November hot patch, but I'm curious to dive into these. When I got the elite controller I had to dial my sensitivity down to 8 from 10 because I'm playing with the tall stick. I'd love to hear what other Elite controller users are using.

5% Inner Deadzone
10% Outer Deadzone (may decrease this based on feel after a few more matches)
aim accel 2
sensitivity 3

Feels like a completely new game.

Might drop to 0% and see how it feels.

Ill tell you tonight.

Might not hurt to mention what kind of controller you guys are using, too. Those settings are going to be different beasts on preference alone, not to mention with different stick sizes and whatnot.

Happy about this patch. I played the beta (and many of the other final/pre release Halos), this one's retail controls felt off- I thought it was just me at first.

Yes i do, cause the controls feel off to me. Console gaming, more accessible, plug and play. Now go play with your settings until the game feels right.

You could say the same for any console game ever made, at least here you have the option to make changes to your personal preference.

My current configuration is:

Default Controls

Aim Sensitivity: 3
Aim Acceleration: 2
Inner Dead Zone: 7%
Outer Dead Zone: 9%

Definitely going to be a lot of tweaking till I am happy though.

I think people should post their control pad models as well, as there seems to be some differences, especially with the pads in the newer bundles.

Loving this thread, will need to try all of these settings. Seems like acceleration at 2 is the standard variable.

2 or 3 is the standard. I wouldn't go higher or lower than those two. Also, outer dead zone is fine, just tweak the inner dead zone. Don't raise it higher than it is now though.

Lol what? i mean every game has some tuning on the controls no two people's hands are completely alike.

I've played for a little bit now and I've settled in on my preferred settings.

Aim Acceleration: 2
Aim Senseitivity: 4
Inner Deadzone: 8%

Everything else default.

These settings felt kinda odd at first to me but I've put in a lot of time with Halo 5 and I think part of that was just me having gotten used to the earlier acceleration even if I never got completely comfortable with them. So having to adjust after 100 hours of play was still an issue.

But after a little time on these settings the game feels waaaaay better.

Judging from the OT a good number of people are settling in on aim acceleration of 2 and an inner deadzone of 6-8%. That's what I'd suggest starting with then adjust as needed along with any tuning of the outer deadzone and sensitivity. I don't plan on touching outer deadzone myself.
