So yeah, there you have it! What do you guys think of Atlus' showing on 3DS thus far?
I really have to agree with vocab though, I stopped playing the game at one point because I hated every single character in there, and really could not be arsed to take someone's really stupid side. (Yes. That is why I quit. Not because I got horribly defeated MULTIPLE times by Amane. Whose design is one of the worse ones as well...)
The gameplay is top notch though, and I stand by my recommendation. Not necessarily one for newcomers, for those asking, unless you are willing to really learn the battle system. If you do though, it is satisfyingly challenging, and very atmospheric.
I haven't played a Devil Survivor game before, are they any good? I consider Fire Emblem to be a bit too strategic for my tastes I'm kind of a more-to-the-point gamer, not a problem with turn based combat per se but rather the flow.
no, since 2002 (wind waker 40/40)
So what's the best on 3ds so far? I've had one for a while and haven't really played any RPGs on it somehow. My favorite RPG is persona 4, for a point of reference on my interests. I'm looking over at smt 4 at the moment..

Recently, Disgaea, Etrian Odyssey and Trauma Center. Mind you, I have enjoyed Atlus published games in the past, just not games actually made by Atlus. Now I just avoid Atlus games altogether.
Disgaea I bought because people said it's the tits. I was expecting Tactics Ogre in a supernatural setting, but I was disappointed to find out it's a game where you max/max with a battle system that's not very intuitive or fun. I loathe max/maxing as it doesn't create any sort of decision-making to problems. You simply take time and you'll eventually get there. Etrian Odyssey was promising at first, drawing the dungeons and making your way through them, but it eventually took its toll as the battle system yet again isn't interesting enough to keep me hooked. The lack of character models and any sort of battle animation didn't do it any favours. Trauma Center was just an unresponsive mess, which probably the DS' touchscreen takes the blame for too.
Yes, the first Devil Survivor game is great
Which FE game(s) have you played? The two series do not have similar gameplay per se, because DS focuses on exploiting other units' weaknesses more so than FE, where unit placement may be more crucial. This isn't to say that the latter is not important in DS.
I think battles on average tend to be shorter in DS, so maybe that would suit you better? Have you played any Shin Megami Tensei or Persona before? The elemental systems are similar between each one since DS is a spin-off of SMT.
Atlus is the main reason I love video games in 2015.
I don't think I've ever liked an Atlus game. Their games are very... bloated and unintuitive.
You could try SMT IV, but it's considerably different from Persona 4. As with other mainline SMT games, there's much less focus on the characters or bonding with them by comparison, with your demons serving as your party members (fusing them being comparable to creating new Personas, though acquiring new without fusion requiring talking to them in battle and appeasing them with the right answers/offerings). The story isn't as minimalistic as SMT III: Nocturne, but a lot of the details still depend on talking to NPCs to fill in the gaps. Experience with P4's One More system means you'll be prepared for Press Turn (which was introduced in Nocturne and served as the basis for One More), with the elemental strengths/weaknesses being the same, though Garu skills are called Zan skills there. Expect a very steep difficulty curve in the beginning, with the game gradually getting much easier, yet the all-or-nothing nature of the combat allowing you to completely annihilate the enemy or vice versa will still remain. So what's the best on 3ds so far? Not seeing why they can't just keep doing both.Must agree. But I do enjoy the occasional ATLUS-published game.
In my perfect world, they'd stop making games and just focus on picking up cool niche games and bringing them to us.
Ty for the info!
I have only played FE: Awakening, I actually haven't finished it yet because it's taking me a while (bought a 3DS just a month ago). I can play hours upon hours of Monster Hunter but FE I need to start up with a certain mood. I've had no trouble with Persona games by the way.
DS2's is by Kenji Ito and it's much better. Sadly, the rest of the game isn't.
3DS is heaven for Etrian Odyssey and SMT fans but Conception II makes me hate myself.
I just did a LTTP on SMTIV and I just started EOIV, and will be doing a LTTP on it shortly.
Short version: SMTIV - puzzlingly awful, EOIV - ridiculously good.

Without Atlus (and Intelligent Systems) I don't think I would've bought a 3DS, their output is really great.
Atlus and Nintendo are the two best publishers on 3DS and the most prolific third party. With Square-Enix focussing more on mobile, Atlus has stepped in to fill the rpg void.

Really? So if I didn't like it, I should not give SMTIV a chance?
I like their output, but I feel like they've increasing relied heavily on their 1st person dungeon crawling stuff. Not that I don't enjoy EO or PQ, but I feel like a tad more variety would be good.
Etrian Odyssey is one of those series I've never gotten into. I plan on starting at original DS game one of these days, but that might not be for a while.
I've enjoyed several of their 3DS games. I'm currently replaying DS Overclocked in preparation for Record Breaker, and I think I'm enjoying it more the second time around.

I mean, maybe if you're buying what they're selling. But Bravely Default was a good idea executed really terribly (and no, I'm not talking about the second half) and most if the rest of their output is nostalgia rhythm games and remakes. As much as I like the Dragon Quest VII remake, Square's output has been very cynical in my eyes. Haven't spent any time with explorers yet, but I'm honestly just sick of Square and their shenanigans no matter what the platform.Square still has a sizable and arguably more better 3DS lineup
Only problem is that they are not being localized
