Let's talk about a huge PS4 flaw: no startup sound - it's unacceptable

I don't know how much the rest of you know about system startup sound culture in sony consoles (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America and the XBox where you can become successful by having a console without a REAL startup identity. If you don't have a startup sound in a PlayStation console, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the PlayStation public, after knowing about this, is not going to want to purchase their next console, nor will they ever support PlayStation again. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Sony has alienated an entire market with their soundless PS4 startup.

What I find completely unacceptable is the warning, that comes on startup every single time, and delays the transition to the UI. I don't have the problem it warns about, and I'm the only one using the system, so why can't I set it off? The same thing unfortunately applies to the PS3 as well. I miss those days, when the systems went straight to the UI without needless delays.

Start-up sounds are awesome but okay, it isn't there. No biggie. There are plenty of other issues Sony can fix or improve.
 
just have an ipod or phone with you and when you power on your PS4, hit play on whatever sound you want on a MP3. there, customizable start up sound, boom.
 
"unaccepatable". I'm waiting for the resume feature more than a sound that will eventually just get annoying which you have to listen to every time you start.

Seriously, I'd rather they focus on more important matters with the XMB than the start-up sound.

EDIT: Damn listening to that PS2 start-up has me all nostalgic now.
 
Maybe im just a fool and cant see the sarcasm, but are people really upset about this? Man, no matter what sony, MS, or nintendo does people will find something to complain about.
 
Nah, it really is irrelevant at the end of the day. I did love the Dreamcast, PS3, and OG Xbox startups for example, A LOT. Still, you get over it, lol.

This thread is drowning in it's sarcasm although I expect some are serious because the internet wouldn't be the same without a few crazies.
 
I thought it was disappointing too. The ps2 startup sound was the best although the current ps3 startup of the orchestra tuning up is awesome.
 
I was thinking about this and the GAF hype back at the PS4 nostalgia trailer where they have something similar to the PS2's startup sound on the PS4, I think it's the same one used on adverts when the PS logo appears.

I'd definitely choose PS1's sounds though.

No, that's just the reflection of the room/TV light.
 
Sounds like the PS2 boot sound. It was probably a place holder sound.

Also the fact that Sony were calling the PS4 the next PS2 before it launched because of its popularity and ease to develop for (I think it was in Cerny's PS4 tech talk before it launched). I don't blame them for wanting that again though, perhaps they will get PS2 like sales by the end of its life.

I'd love to hear a whole new system boot up sound. I guess they figured the machine starts so fast it doesn't need one.

I find it kind of strange that it has the same PS3 power on "beep".
 
Agree with op and it is unacceptable. Traditionally, a start up sound is the console's identity. Really unacceptable.
 
After the whole 4theplayes campaign I was sooooo hoping for the PS1 startup sound. Man, I'd pay to dollar to have this as my startup sound for PS4.
 
I am pretty glad there is no startup sound. No rush of waking anyone up due to the volume being high etc.

Sorry for posting a serious answer in an otherwise jovial thread.

Of course, since we are living in the future (explain VR otherwise), one should be able to set ones own sound file as startup sound.
 
Are you listening Sony? This seems like a joke but players really would like to see (hear) it!
Give us some awesome startup sound so we can feel nostalgia in the future, please : D
 
You can hear the PS 1 & 2 startup sounds in The Playroom, incase anyone didn't know.

Go inside the controller and hold down the touchpad. Only does it once in a few tries.
 
Guys, we should start up another one of those campaigns to get Sony's attention.

OK. Not really. But a sweet PS4 start up sound would be pretty awesome.
 
This is an outrage. I will a PM a mod right now, change my name to semifamousmortimer and demand, nay, COMMAND Sony to put a start-up sound for the PS4!
