Let's talk about how great mid-2000s G-Unit was

Disagree but then I love samples. At the same time I think Purple Haze is the best effort put out by any member of either group and Diplomatic Immunity 1 was way stronger than either G-unit effort.

Alright, after listening to DI1 for a few days while driving, I'll admit that it holds up better than I thought. Maybe it's because it's been so long since I've really listened to them, but I'm really into the sped up soul samples again. I remember being really tired of them at one point. Still not a big Jim Jones guy, but Cam and Juelz are still dope. Think I'm gonna go listen to What The Game's Been Missing again, remember really digging that album but it's been a while.

With all that said, though, I still like the first wave of G-Unit albums more.

Yeah, it's understandable that you can grow tired of the samples and that was the Dips signature sound. D1 is really nice but there's definitely some stuff that can be cut. Jimmy is only as good as his ghostwriter. WTGBM is a nice album but I think I prefer his first album.

I still think Diplomats was stronger with their album outputs, not even counting mixtapes whoch were practically untouchable.

Edit: As far as first waves.

Come Home With Me > Get Rich or Die Trying.

Hunger For More > From Me 2 U.

Diplomatic Immunity > Beg For Mercy

Straight Outta Cashville > On My Way To Church > Thoughts of a Predicate Felon.

Damn, looking at it like that they're way closer than I remember. Cashville was an amazing album

If I had to choose, I think I'd say that Buck was the best rapper out of either crew. I was honestly surprised he didn't have more success post G-Unit but I guess all those L's he was catching were weighing him down.

Nothing messes with GRODT.

He had arguably the best first wave album but Cam is far and away the best rapper out of the original camps.

I'm not too familiar with it as a whole but some of the more notable songs from Texas in that era still slap. Ridin Dirty is kind of a joke now but Still Tippin, Sittin Sideways, N Luv With My Money are still in heavy rotation in my playlist.

I agree. I remember really enjoying Ridin Dirty when it dropped but it hasn't held up. The three you listed are solid.

I've been bummed for like ten years that his next album has gone through production hell.

Have to agree with OP. G unit was the best gangster rap during the 2000s. Even yayo's and Lloyd banks' own albums were great too
