Let's talk about that special (amazing) scene in Interstellar!

The 20 some years of messages is easily the best scene, not sure there's much of a debate there.

Opinions and what not I guess. Anyways Matt Damon blasting into space here scared the shit out of me. Even though I could see it coming.

It was pretty obvious, to be honest.

The best part is that the whole scene begins with Matt Damon exploding into space with the most abrupt toggle from horribly loud to utterly silent ever. I nearly died. Totally puts you in adrenaline mode, and then you watch the docking scene already amped up.

Yep, I don't ever remember being startled going from noise -> absence of noise in any movie before, but this did it. Great scene.

I thought it was gonna be about Caine saying that poem for a fifth time. The scene was ruined by the one liner.

I laughed during the docking scene. It's like a scene from Fast and the Furious in the middle of typically ham-fisted Nolan drama.

Yep very good scene. Surprised to see people bagging on the 'it's necessary' line. I didn't find that line to be out of place given the general themes of the movie. I thought it was pretty effective.
Also like others have said, the video log scene was great. Same with McConaughey's departure from earth. And a lot of these scenes succeed largely due to that amazing soundtrack.

Slightly off track but I still can't wrap my head around the time dilation effect on the water planet. How does your body not age at all there while someone on Earth has aged seven freaking years in the hour you were there?

I thought this was going to be about Casey Affleck's video-logs.

The only really great scene in the whole film.

I'd say the video logs and the first time you see the inside of the blackhole and the walls made of light strands. Something about the use of the music in both the scenes (the soft piano and the the more ambient version of the main theme) really adds to them.

This scene was just too ridiculous to me. I actually "oh, come on"'d when I realized what they were gonna try to do.

Cool robots & time dilation though.

That comes shortly after the best exchange in the film:

(Re: him not knowing how to manually dock)

Cooper: The autopilot knows.

Tars: Not if I shut it off.

Cooper: Tars, what's your trust level set to?

Tars: Less than yours, apparantly.

I loved this film and this scene, but the "No, it's necessary" line was awful. I also don't understand why the robots seemed to think that what he was doing wasn't possible and then they proceed to do it (given they do almost all the work).

Best scene in the movie. However...

TARS: "It's not possible."

Cooper: "No, it's necessary."

That doesn't make it any less impossible Coop.

ABsolutely amazing scene. I literally was at the edge of my seat. Crouched forward, palms sweating, attention unwavering and heart pounding. That's great cinema right there!
Whole movie was pretty amazing.

Yeah, it was an incredible sequence.

Should have been the climax of the movie, one man doing the impossible because he has no choice,
then Jesuses himself into the black hole so the robot can take the eternity of time dilation immediately next to the black hole to research a solution to their gravity problem.

The worst dialogue in the film was the speech from Anne Hatheway about love. So cringeworthy that my face folded in on itself through four dimensional space.

When I heard that I was like

I truly can't believe that Nolan went through with that Love is the most powerful force in the universe bullcrap.

Saw it last night in 70mm IMAX, so good, there were definitely several small issues throughout the film, but overall the experience was fantastic and on the whole the movie was a joy to watch. Tons of really striking moments and amazing scenes. That water world was just too cool. Wes Bentley deserved better though, that was the one scene I really didn't like because it just didn't make sense and felt very forced. But damn those 23 year messages were intense, they totally could have milked that even more so and just wrecked people.

It sounds like you're trying to think about it biologically when its purely a physics thing. A human on Miller's planet and a human on Earth age at the same rate, but relative to the passage of time around them. Time passes much, much slower when you're in a gravity pool like the one Miller's planet is just on the cusp of. That's why when Cooper goes through the event horizon of Gargantua to its singularity a very short amount of time has passed for him compared to the decades and decades back on Earth. He must have experienced immense gravity for time to slow down so much for him.

They were just spinning around. Not that heart pounding.

But the music was great and I guess it was the most interesting spinning around scene I've ever seen.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. That scene was when I knew I was watching the greatest experience in a movie theater I've ever had. It also solidified this movie as the greatest move I've ever seen simply based on how it made me feel through. but that scene. The music in accompany with the fact that I saw it in 70mm IMAX right center all the way in the back. My mouth was open the whole time and started tearing during it the organs kicked in(those were organs?). I still remember every single moment of it. I was speechless afterwards and fought the urge to get up and clap with as much patriotism as I could muster.

Good grief that is hyperbole if I've ever seen it.

SPOILERS INBOUND

TARS: "Cooper, there is no point in using fuel..."

Cooper: "Just analyze the Endurance's spin."

Brand: "What are you doing?"

Cooper: "Docking."

TARS: "Endurace's rotation is 67 RPM."

Cooper: "Get ready to match up spin, retro thrust."

TARS: "It's not possible."

Cooper: "No, it's necessary."

I think it was one of the most heart pounding scenes in recent history. I've watched the movie twice and it was just as good if not better. What kind of emotions did the scene trigger for you? I say the music was some of the best of any movie I've ever watched. The scene was simply fantastic.

Also, my favorite moment:

That scene was so good was sitting at edge of my seat.

The scene is great because of the stakes involved for both the characters and mankind in general. It doesn't sound exciting on its own, but in context it's powerful and emotionally resonant. The music is a huge part of that. Just an amazing synergy on all levels.
