Let's talk about the Big Cats

Jaguars in Southern California? Where? What conservatives are you talking about? What lands are you talking about that these conservatives don't want to designate as protected habitat?

Facts would be helpful, or it is just typical drive-by BS that makes liberals look ignorant and misinformed and doesn't help the liberal argument.
Jags have been making a comeback in Southern Arizona. I have no knowledge of them making it over to Cali though. If they have established resident breeding population in Arizona it's very possible they've expanded to Cali. But I've heard no evidence of this.

Just want to represent the one for the state I live in.

Oh anyone in the So-Cal area, if you want to visit a conservation center for wild cats (big and small) I'd suggest going to The Cat House it's in Rosamond, CA. I've been there several times including the night tours and it's really awesome, it's sad to see the cats in cages though but they wouldn't survive otherwise.

Thread reminds me: years ago, I was coming out of the washroom at Pinnacles National Monument in Cali and came face to face with a cougar. Luckily I had just used the bathroom. Actually, it was as surprised to see me as I it and wasted no time moving on. One of my most memorable wildlife sightings to be sure.

Despite that, gonna have to go with Jaguar as my fav. Just such a majestic animal.

I'm sure most of you already do, but follow the Black Jaguar White Tiger on IG and FB for crazy ass Eddie's videos of his big cat sanctuary in Mexico.

That dude is going to get killed one day. A sad day, that is.

I'm not a fan of Black Jaguar, White Tiger. They're not a sanctuary, and they are perpetuating a great deal of harm to the cats, even if Eddie himself has good intentions. They don't provide any information on where exactly they "rescued" their cats from. It seems likely that many are purchased from private breeders.

Oh shit, the four biggest cats just chillin out together backstage. Love it

Thanks for making a thread about this, I grew up obsessed with big cats and learned entirely too much trivia about them. Used to hate when the other kids would say lions were the biggest cats and I was pretty much a tiger defender at all times.

Tiger > Jaguar > Leopard > Lion

Growing up, I had an obsession with cougars. I had a picture in my room, and did a really great report on them in grade 3. My teacher asked to put it up at the local fair, but ended up losing it on me.

I'm a huge cat person, and honestly find the big cats amazing.
I still have an obsession with cougars. ;-)

Snow leopards are the coolest to me, and the cutest. Can't wait till we make them all go extinct, yay!

Yeah, there's a lot of haters for BJWT. I've read a couple of those links before, none of it has any conclusive evidence.

But sure, Eddie isn't being too smart with how he acts around all those big cats. He's going to get carried off one day in the jaws of one of them

Got to be the cheetah for me, the fastest land animal of all and the least aggressive big cat towards humans, which means watching them in their natural habitat is not as dangerous. What's not to love?

It would be great if there were domesticated big cats. Unfortunately, they would just murder you if they were bored.

Not the same thing, but cheetahs can be tamed.

So if these creatures saw us outside they'd eat us. It's crazy.

Cheetahs might leave you be. They're relatively light in build and not incredibly aggressive... towards humans that is.

Where are my servals?!

Yeah i love that cat too.
Probably not big enough for this thread though.

Personally, i'm more into smaller cats these days. Probably because of my son, who is a HUUUGE cat fan. So i got to learn a lot more about the smaller cats.

My personal fav. Big Cat is the tiger. Siberian.

Be honest. No one would lock a car door due to the possibility that a tiger might open it. How would that thought even cross your mind?

Because a friend had a house cat that could open any house doors, even ones with round knobs.

Excuse me a what.

There was a point and time where much like wolves you could cougars all across the east coast of North America. Now both are pretty rare on the east coast. In the case of the cougar you can only really find them in the most southern part of Florida. There are bears in Florida too!

Had a soft spot for Cheetahs ever since reading that they get so nervous in zoos that they often get dog best friends to pal around with

how big is a lynx?

ohh and what about Ligers and other cross breeds?
Lynx is usually small-medium sized, mostly small I guess.

Ligers/tigons are not an actual species, they often have a lot of genetic disorders and many of them cannot reproduce.

I recommend subscribing to BigCatRescue YouTube channel. You can find a lot of interesting stuff about big cats there.

I feel bad for cheetahs ever since I watched a cheetah documentary on Discovery where hyenas, lions, basically every predator, steal their hard earned meal. Unlike leoparts they don't have the strength to climb a tree while holding a carcass. One time a young male cheetah got his hind leg injured by an antelope because of his inexperience. The narrator said he's basically going to either get killed or starve to death, since they don't hunt in packs and they're not scavengers like those fuckers, hyenas. Their speed is their livelihood. Cheetahs are like the underdog sports team you like to root for. Go, Cheetahs!
