Let's talk about your favorite MP maps

I just cracked up thinking about that one! That was pretty great, and hilarious. Wasn't it the same map, but a different game mode?

Same game mode I think, War only had two maps (Colours and Total War) and both were pretty great.
The one you mentioned was also Capture the Flag if I recall.

Yes, it was, I think. I chose that one for the OP because of the weapons, and the tense dash back to your home base when you have the flag

Hang Em High from Halo CE

Despite its way-too-gray color scheme, this map is one of the GOAT multiplayer maps.

Great vertical and horizontal map with great strategic placement of the armors and weapons.

Halo:
Lockout
Ivory Tower
Headlong
Foundation[This being the best zombie map. I love how people would use the objects in the room to barricade the doors.]
Last Resort
Blackout
Foundary & Sandbox[Tied for best forge maps]
Snowbound

Gears of War:
Canals
Gridlock

Smash:
Fountain of Dreams
Corneria
Pokemon Stadium
Saffron City
Coliseum

Call of Duty:

Gulf of Oman from the Battlefield series.[/QUOTE]

I liked that map. They add it to BF4 only to ruin it with the stupid sandstorm that lasts for the rest of the match...
The did the same with Firestorm (to a lesser extent) where instead of the beautiful sunny noon of the original setting, they add a darker one with black smoke everywhere. I watch the original maps on youtube and weep manly while siping whisky from my 'big boy' cup...

Gulf of Oman - 24/7 max tickets.

nuff said.

.... although I do have to say Dice made one mistake and that is the AA gun on the deck of the carrier should have been stronger to eliminate camping at A.... the AA gun is the perfect solution to spawn camp, but it needs to be able to kill near A.... so the strength should have been higher but the spread more past a certain distance...

Nuketown.

It's not that it's like amazingly designed, it's just crazy fun.

But the real star and best CoD map in my opinion is......Firing Range.

Uncharted 2: I could basically list every map, I loved them all so damn much but these were my favs.
  • The Village
  • The Fort
  • The Sanctuary
  • The Highrise
  • The Flooded Ruins

Uncharted 3:
  • Yemen
  • Syria
  • Chateau

Uncharted has really been the only MP I've played day after day so yeah.

Quakeworld

The Classic - DM3

DM6

and one which is probably only well knowing to UK Quake gamers.

UKCLDM2 (can't even find a picture of it)

None of these images do justice to the fantastic map design present in all 3. Didn't include DM4, but it was good for 1v1.

I miss the days of Quakeworld on Barrysworld and Wireplay/Gameplay.

He's not talking about a game, he's talking about a map in a game.

How else exactly do you propose he attempts to understand the map without playing the game?

I read it wrong and thought he meant what makes CS so great, not the map.

but the point still stands though. a picture can't show off what makes a map good unless you're a graphics whore. The layout of the map, the lines of sight, choke points, the timings etc all go into what makes a map good.

A map I rarely see posted in these types of threads: Halo Sidewinder.

It was great even 2 vs 2. Absolutely amazing when we set up system link and got 3 vs 3 or 4 vs 4. Perfectly placed powerups, amazing high low vantage points. I loved every second on this map.

Leaving a strategically placed warthog for your buddy returning the flag while you jumped out of a ghost to snipe the chasing enemy, seriously this map is beautiful.

Terrible picture but Block Fort from Mario Kart 64 is still the height of Battle Mode and will not be matched until they finally come to their senses and bring it back.

The Halo series as a whole has some of my favorite maps, not just for FPS games but in general. Guardian, Sandtrap, The Pit, Ivory Tower are all great but my favorite Halo map has to be Valhalla. I love how this map looks, so colorful and full of life, the amazing water running through it. CTF games would get nuts on this map and I loved it. I really did not like they brought it back in Halo 4 looking so dry and lifeless. Halo 3 version all the way.

City under siege

Metal gear solid 3: subsistence online

Cliffside and Makin

From cod: world at war
Or all of the maps set in the Pacific.

Just about every Gold Rush map from BC1. My favorite was Ascension for its 3 distinct sections. It began with a Uphill battle then ended with a shot out in a monastery on a hill. I'm not doing it justice but it was great

Trying to find good Killzone 2 mp footage in a sea of garbage players -_-

Killzone 2 was the best for me last gen. Gears (only the first) and Killzone 2 all day every day.

Lockout from Halo 2, but pretty much all of the MP maps from Halo 2 are among the best ever
Lockout.jpg

Guardian from Halo 3
H3_MP_Guardian_Env4.jpg

All of the non-vehicle maps in Call of Duty: World At War are great and are my favourite in the series. my overall favourite is probably Courtyard:

Black Ops 1 also has some of the best maps of the COD series, this game along with W@W are still my favourites in the series. the whole game has great maps, but i'll give the shoutout to Summit:

Uncharted multiplayer has some of the best map designs ever, especially the vanilla maps from U2. The fact that they're vertical and highly interactive thanks to the transversal gameplay made it even more impressive.

If I had to pick one it'd be Sanctuary.

Just so perfect. Then Village.

Modern Warfare - Crash
Medium-sized map.

World at War - Dome
Small-sized map, fast paced.

Modern Warfare 2 - Favela
Medium-sized map, colorful & vibrant

Black Ops - Firing Range
Small-medium sized map, fast paced.

Modern Warfare 3 - Village
Medium-large sized map. I love that it's set in an African Village, in the Jungle. It has lots of Javelin spots. Also, spawns are very predictable.

Black Ops 2 - Slums
Small-sized map. Plays great with 3 lanes.

Ghosts - Sovereign
Medium-large sized map. The bluish and vibrant color is great. Halon Gas streak turns this map very foggy, which I really like.

Advanced Warfare - Greenband
Medium-sized map, colorful and vibrant. 3 lanes and great for flanking.

Black Ops 3 - Hunted?
Medium-sized map.
