WKC: announced 2006. NA release: 2010.

Layton Vs Phoenix (developed with Capcom): announced 2010. NA release: 2014
Inazuma Eleven: JP release 2008. NA release 2014
Level 5 has a record of long delays before NA releases.

Considering jrpgs on consoles are a risky venture these days, a reveal at a big stage like e3 and the hint that this game will be 'epic' in scale , I think it is safe to assume Sony will be collaborating with Level 5 for this project. The extra funding will ease some of the risk associated with releasing a big budget jrpg, especially one targeted at western audiences.

Hmmm...Ni No Kuni sequel? The first one did sell better in the west and they are announcing at E3 after all. I would personally love for it to be Dark Cloud 3 or Rogue Galaxy 2 myself. A new ip could be very interesting as well.
You and me and 5 other people would shoot blood out of our eyes if that happened.
Unfortunately everyone seems to want NNK 2 :-/

This is no different than last gen.
All of those publishers were on board PS3, had lots of games.
Only difference was many of them already launched games in its 1st/2nd year, instead of waiting to announce them. Most if them were exclusives too (as in, not on PS2).
I don't understand where people are getting this narrative that Japanese publishers are somehow "back" when last gen was the same.
Basically, if this is them being "back", they were never gone.

i hope they keep that Youkai Watch & Ni No Kuni graphic stil for their next console games .

I agree. I would say that it's because Japanese gamers weren't hopping on board because of the higher price tag & because of Japanese 3rd party publishers hesitating to make games for the PS3 because it was not developer friendly.
You realize after 2, they'd abandon the series forever right?

I hope this gen Sony collaborates with Japanese devs for some PS4 RPG's. Maybe codevelop with Studio Japan, the PS3 had the least amount of Jrpg's on a Sony system. If third parties are going to focus on handheld and mobile they need to fund some of these or they won't happen. Dark Cloud, Wild Arms, Legend of Legaia these are IPs Sony own and could make a comeback and please many longtime Sony rpg fans. With the Vita struggling in the west Sony can't just make monster hunter style action RPGs for Vita that don't have wide appeal outside of Japan. I think mid sized RPG's could do well in the West and fill in the wait between the rare triple A console RPGs like FFXV.

Ni no kuni sold best in the West, so it would make sense for e3.
Really don't think they should bother with wkc. Those 2 games didn't seem to be well received, so not sure how it makes any sense to make a part 3, 7 years later.

Oliver is 13 in Ni no Kuni, technically making him a teenager. I think he may be the youngest Level 5 has gone for a playable main character in their console RPGs. The majority of their main characters are either teenagers or adults. Toan in Dark Cloud 1 is a teenager as are Max and Monica in Dark Cloud 2. Jaster (Rogue Galaxy) is late teens, possibly young adult.
So. Yeah. No 5 year olds here.

Every one of their PS2 RPGs are sitting at 80+, with a couple of their handheld RPGs at 80+ (i.e. Jeanne d'Arc is at 87 - I should REALLY play that soon, I've got it).

DQ 8 was definitely good, but it was also a game where Level 5 was mostly doing the grunt-work under the direction of the Dragon Quest series' very talented core staff. Without outside direction, their best game was probably Dark Cloud 2. But even that game still has some issues in my opinion. Most notably that I got consistently hit by a crash bug early in the game that prevented me from playing most of it.
You really should, fantastic gameplay and production values.

I'm not sure if Level 5 has what it takes to really do something as dark and adult as Princess Mononoke. At best you'd get something semi-serious, but probably still on the fantastical side.
I keep getting sidetracked from other backlogged games. Jeanne d'Arc is actually next on the list of my SRPGs to get through. I'm nearing the end of Wild ARMs XF. That one has been a bit of a slog to get through, which is saddening, since I'm a huge Wild ARMs fan.
