Level-5's Guild collection currently on sale (eShop)

Oh my gawd I've been playing Attack of the Friday Monsters all night. I just have one more card to obtain, then I'll be 100% done.

I also want to play through the story again, but this time I'll talk to the NPCs as much as possible. They say some cute things. It took me way too long to realize
Frank is an alien from Germany. He's a Frankfurter, to be more precise. Haw haw!

Allow me to tell you why it's incredibly nostalgic.

Crimson Shroud was written and directed by Yasumi Matsuno. He was the brains behind "Ivalice" by Squaresoft/Enix. He was the guy behind games such as Tactics Ogre, Final Fantasy Tactics, FFT Advance, partially behind FFXII, and his most definitive game Vagrant Story. He also worked with Alexander Smith, his go to translator/localization for some of the games mentioned above (especially Vagrant Story), on Crimson Shroud. The music was done by Basiscape, whom is headed by Hitoshi Sakimoto, the brilliant composer behind almost all of the above games.

Crimson Shroud is basically D&D Vagrant Story. That is why it seems nostalgic.

I greatly appreciate all three of those guys for the incredible experiences they've given the industry.

I really need to track down my copy of Vagrant Story and blast through it. Thanks for reminding me.

oh hell yes, gonna go grab Friday Monsters right now

is the other stuff worth buying at $5?
Well, if you like the adventure aspect of the game, The Starship Damrey is also an adventure game. Obviously the tone is totally different, but I thought it was pretty neat.

The original price is probably a bit too pricy for the length of the game, but I think $5 is pretty apropos.

Craving for an adventure game so I bought Attack of the Friday Monsters. Will pick up Liberation Maiden and Crimson Shroud next before the sale ends.

Reviews for Bugs vs. Tanks cracked me up..apparently you play as WWII-era German soldiers aka Nazis?! The premise didn't bother me much but the presentation looked a bit dated.

I guess I'll pass on Damrey, most impressions make it sound like a game you don't need to have. That and the fact that there is still no proper account system, it's not worth it to gamble. Attack of the Friday monsters will do. Crimson Shroud was already purchased from the last sale :)

I came into this ready to buy Crimson Shroud, but you guys have got me super interested in Attack of the Friday Monsters. I think I'm gonna cave and get both :S

The sale doesn't end until Jan 2nd (according to the eShop promo images), so I still have time to mull it over haha

Just started Crimson Shroud (started it first, since it seems you can unlock something special for AotFM if you have a Guild01 save file on your system), and I'm immediately digging it. The dice rolling is very satisfying, and there's a surprising amount of depth right off the bat. Definitely a good one to enjoy with the 3D turned on; not as harsh on the eyes.

Alexander O. Smith had a hand in the translation. That's all I needed to know, really.

The translation was superb. In my opinion, it increased the immersion and really made it feel like an "adult" RPG, tonally. It helped that the writing behind the story was strong -- stronger than what I'm used to from the genre.

Thanks for the heads up OP, I'll be picking up Monster and Starship Damrey seeing as I already grabbed Crimson Shroud from the last sale.

Liberation Maiden, Attack of the Friday Monsters, and Crimson Shroud all interest me. I haven't seen too many people mention Liberation Maiden. Is it not that good? How are the cutscenes? Is there a decent amount of fanservice or any at all?

Any news on whether or not Rental Bukiya de Omasse will ever come over? That sounds kinda neat.

What the fuck. I keep getting error code 011-7515 after I hit "add funds." Fuck this shit. I want Attack of the Friday Monsters NOW.

The error code is apparently that the 3DS is unable to connect to an Access Point, even though I did a connection test and everything, and am also using wifi on my phone just fine.

Anyone else getting error codes?

How are Liberation Maiden and Attack of the Friday Monsters on the XL?

I usually buy games digital only on my OG 3DS (I bring it out a lot) but if those 2 games are short enough I'd just buy them on the XL if they're not too bad on XL.

No idea about Liberation Maiden, but Friday Monsters looks great on the XL.

Was only gonna briefly start Crimson Shroud so I could create a save to unlock that special item for Attack of the Friday Monsters and then start that, but I can't stop playing CS. Keep nabbing new loot. Bastards!

How is the story in Friday Monsters and crimson shroud?

Haven't actually jumped into Friday Monsters yet, but the story in Crimson Shroud is incredibly engrossing. I knew it would read well because of the translation team, but it's surprisingly deep and gripping for a downloadable game. Kinda stuck right now, though, on Chapter 2.

Definitely getting Crimson Shroud and Attack of the Friday Monsters!

I'm on the fence about The Starship Damrey, though. I know it's short (like 3 hours short), but I'm reading mixed things about the story and gameplay quality. What should I do, GAF?

if you're only getting one, make it crimson shroud.

fantastic RPG tribute to table-top gaming. one of, if not the, best games on the e-shop

i'd personally rate attack of the friday monsters second best

I've played Attack of the Friday Monsters for about two hours so far. I'm really enjoying how relaxing, charming, and nostalgic it is. You basically just walk around this beautiful small town (hand-drawn, even), talking to NPCs to trigger different events that lead the story forward and collecting glims for cards to play against your in-game friends. You get fed just enough information to whet your appetite and make you curious as to what's going to happen next, making you want to keep playing. Also, the music is really nice.

The son tells his dad he heard a mighty sound, and the dad replies with:
2013-12-14%2016.33.26.jpg

The kid you control is excited because he discovered something big, and this kid replies with:

It really reminds me of the wonders of what it was like being a dumb kid and thinking about things differently. The whole game is silly in a good way. Plus, you basically play Rock, Paper, Scissors in card form (the cards are Kaiju!), and if you win, you become your friends' boss. If you lose, you become their servant.

One of my favorite parts is the cacophony of the town. The train always being ever-present with its distant ringing, hearing advertisements through speakers as you walk by shops or go in them... and then everything gets quiet once you go out further. It's a nice touch. I'm really happy I bought this; $5 is a great price.

I only realized that Friday Monsters was a Level 5 game last week. Thanks very much for the heads-up; I really love it.

The name's terrible, though. They should have called it "Miyamoto's Real Story" or something.

I've owned Crimson Shroud for a while but have barely gotten into it. I enjoyed Starship Damrey because I am somebody who enjoys even bad games of that type. I think Escape Trick Convenience Store is a much better value and more intellectually engaging, for what that's worth. I wish I'd only paid $5 for Damrey.

I can't bring myself to buy Liberation Maiden because I never actually seem to play the shooters I buy. (Galaxy Force 2, though... holy crap.)

Just hit Chapter 3 in Crimson Shroud, and there are some sweet (and obvious) nods to FFT in the theme of the first room. The story, too, seems to borrow a bit from FFT. I wasn't seeing it at first, but now it's more evident. The writing is superb. Any FFT fan needs to nab this. The gameplay is also deceptively complex.

Crimson Shroud is awesome, the only thing missing is shaking the 3DS to throw the dice. Weird that they didn't make that design decision considering its D&D style roots.

As much as I hate the damn nintendo (non)account system, I'm gonna get Crimson Shroud thanks to this thread. Looking forward to it.
