Level5 announces Layton7 for iOS/Android/3DS [Update: Video]

Is GAF going to do this every time a major handheld franchise goes to iOS/Android? Guess what EVERYTHING is going to the mobile platform. It's where most of the money is in the handheld game space. Time to get used to it.
Which thread are you reading?

I think a lot of people here (including me) don't quite understand why this game is called Layton 7, features generic characters for now and Level 5 isn't really helpfull in sharing details. So yeah, for people who like the previous Layton games this is quite the shake up.

Couldn't care less about the game releasing on iOS and Android.

Kill it before it lays eggs.

Hahaha holy shit, I totally lost it

7 characters? It's not like any of the previous Layton games had numbers. Level5 is just being cheeky.

Ah that makes sense. For some reason I thought they were numbered (just in my head it seems)

So they want us to think this is a mainline game? This strategy is all too confusing for me. I'm going to bed

Were the other Layton titles numbered, or is this just called Layton 7 because it will have 7 playable characters? I get vibes of Layton Brothers off of this.

Hopefully we see an actual continuation of the series on the 3DS.

Layton is the biggest indicator of the imminent death of handhelds because unlike other mobile announcements, Layton performed quite well already and wasn't some abandoned IP.

I thought its success dwindled with each sequel, and I attributed that to franchise fatigue. There was literally a new Layton release every year since the series started, and it's only this year that the fall has no international Layton release..

To all of you: This isn't a mainline Layton title. The 7 refers to the amount of characters, not to the fact it's the seventh installment in the main series.

Fuck .

Nintendo should have brought the IP. Tree house localization helped Layton a lot. I remember in one issue of Nintendo power that tree house actually help changed some of the puzzles for the western release too.

...... :(

I'm mixed about Level-5 as a whole, but I always adored their Layton efforts minus that weird Layton Brothers game.

This is just saddening.

I haven't played anything from this series but I got Miracle Mask for my nephew. Good thing Azran Legacy will be the last Layton title to star Layton himself as the protagonist.

I was excited. Then confused. Then sad.

I understand that this may not be part of the main series but it still is rather disappointing.

Someone's gonna bump these "mobile is da devil" threads in 10 years to laugh at you all.

Looks like shit. :( Layton Brothers: Mystery Room was a neat game, so I'm not against them slapping the brand on something initially unrelated (seems to be the case here). I'll wait for more details and keep an eye on it because it's Layton, so for now they succeeded I guess

Why does the industry have to go in this direction :( Another awesome franchise ruined by the mobile paradigm.
