Lez talk mechanical keyboards

Oh I like that. Little bit more expensive but think that'll do. Thanks for the help.

First mech keyboard, is there a go to switch? OcUK seem to have the full range of switches while Amazon just have blue.

I have a K70 with Brown switches and I love it. They feel good to me for gaming and every day desktop use. The switch itself isn't loud, but I type pretty hard so I am constantly bottoming out on the switch and THAT can get loud. (Doesn't bother me at all... I'm wearing headphones at the desk anyways)

I'm in Ireland so I'll be getting it from somewhere in the EU. I'm not really sure I have many concerns just want to make a big choice, something that will last.

I think I'll take the K70 with blues, I do some gaming but mostly it's the other stuff I use my computer for and even for gaming I use a controller a lot too.

Ordered the K70 with blues anyway, looks an amazing board, blew my budget a bit but I'm hoping this this will last me a few years.

I assume it's possible to replace keys?

Yes, it's easy to pull off the keycaps with a keycap puller and swap in new ones. If you are looking to swap out the whole set of keycaps, you are out of luck though, as the K70 has a non-standard bottom row with different sized keys than most keyboards. Vortex showcased a prototype keycap set for the Corsair K-series bottom row, but I don't think that set has been released.

I don't know why I didn't think of this, but since there are usb to 3.5mm in adapters I'm now determined to get a mechanical keyboard. What are some of the best options with a usb port?

What are some other important features you are looking for in a mechanical keyboard? Do you want LED backlighting? Macro keys? Numpad?
Have you tried out different mechanical switches? Do you have a preferred switch type?
Check out the Das Keyboard 4 Professional and 4C Professional.

If I could find a TKL with a USB port I could forego things like backlit keys. Don't need macros, and would prefer brown or black switches.

Oh and if the keys aren't backlit at least etched keycaps so they don't wear.

edit: I was looking at the 4C before, I have no idea what "UV hard coat-protected key caps" are though.

Do we know yet if the new Cooler Master MasterKey Pros will have a USB passthrough? If so then the S is what I'll wait for. Unless they're like $200.

See a lot people in this thread buying their 2nd or 3rd mech keyboard. Curious if anyone wants to sell or trade one of their old ones? I want a mechanical keyboard for work, but after spending almost $200 on my desktop keyboard, I'm not wanting to spend an arm and a leg for a work keyboard. Looking for black or brown switches. I have a Quickfire Pro w/ Reds that I can trade or we can work something else out. PM me if you're interested.

You might want to disregard Das Keyboard completely, it seems their quality is pretty bad these days.

Looks like the Max Keyboard Blackbird Tenkeyless does just what you want. Backlighting, USB hub, available in brown and red switches.

Anyone have long term experience with a g910? I'm interested in the upcoming g810, but I'm worried about the UV coated key caps they most likely will have. Has anyone experienced any problems in terms of durability and wear using a g910 long term?

I'm selling my new Blackwidow Ultimate Classic layout US for 100€, sadly Razer Green switches (Cherry MX Blue equivalent) are not for me. Amazing keyboard otherwise (looks great, has beautiful blue lighting, usb, mic and headset in, 5 macro and software is fantastic), and i barely used it for two weeks.

Looks like it's not what you're looking for, but if anyone is interested pm me.

I'm using this keyboard, really solid in my opinion:

Using the one with red cherry mx keys.

Yup, this is the keyboard i want, with the new Cherry MX Silent. I'll buy it on Amazon so if i don't like the switches i can replace it with the MX Red or MX Brown version.

Yeah definitely don't want greens or blues, I work in an open office, so I don't want to drive my coworkers crazy. I'd even be worried about my Das' brown switches being too loud.

Ducky Zero is pretty much exactly what I want.

Noted! Thanks for linking that Max too. Unfortunately it looks like it only has cherry reds on Amazon (have some credit there I'd like to put towards the purchase).

I think I need to just relax and hold off until next month when those Cooler Master rgbs launch.

The struggle of wanting the G710+ over the normal 710 but it wouldn't go with my blue G502.

Anyone tried both? Impressions?

I've owned both; the G710+ is way better imo. The MX blues in the G710 felt so heavy after I used the MX browns in the +. G710+ is a great keyboard other than the elongated sides sticking out.

the silent is basically a red but quieter. the brown does offer a slight bump and I just got mine the other day but I definitely feel like blue is superior except in gaming. the brown switch does feel really good in games

Just order replacement romer-g keycaps for $25 if you're that worried.

Loving my K70RGB. After trying reds and browns, it was pretty clear to me that for my light typing style, the reds were FAR superior. I gave the Browns all the opportunity to prove me wrong since I didn't own either and that one was so hard to find. But in the end...Reds too good.

Also, having an music spectrograph for my keyboard colors is fucking amazing.

That last bit does sound quite incredible, but ordering my K70 the other day I just couldn't stretch the budget. Can't wait for mine to arrive, have been using a Logitech G15 for probably the guts of 7 or 8 years now so time for something new.

Ordered a Magicforce 68 /w Gateron Browns on Massdrop. Looking forward to it, especially since it seems that many users find them to be "buttery smooth" when compared to Cherry Browns.

Got to try out the romer G switches in best buy since they had a Logitech 910 on display. Much shorter travel distance than my cherry mx reds. Felt very soft too. No clacking as it bottoms out. Didn't feel bad though. More membrane like with a distinct response.

I think it would be OK.

Right now I'm between the corsair strafe, Logitech 810 and k70 as viable options. I really need to try out some browns to know for sure what kind of switch.

Havent tried romer g's yet but from what I know, the keycaps are terrible especially for typing. Just word of advice.

I got really excited when I saw the g810, it just looks so good to me. But I still have my 710+ I haven't gotten around to selling and my 710 I replaced it with. Do I really need three keyboards???

man the spring feeling when typing on that board would drive me crazy. this is why i cant do the buckling spring myself. Also the keycaps on the 910 also feels weird. I know for me I would rather go with something that I know I like right off the bat rather than having to warm up to.

Hello my new beauty :D

Corsair K70 RGB with Cherry MX Brown switches.

Beauty that thing is.

As far as mouse pads go, do you guys like the SteelSeries one? It's $8 and the reviews for it are super.

Fuck it, I went ahead and bought it.

Just realized mine comes with a wrist guard, anybody use it?

I'm looking for Cherry MX Brown with..
-USB hub
-Mac key layout

1 single USB cord is preferred, as my current kb has 2 for this setup. It's become problematic so it's time to replace.

Guessing I have to forgo either USB or Mac layout but trying to find something. I'd consider DAS but their latest uses Greetech and sits too flat for my tastes (US version). My current device doesn't have Mac keys and I haven't lost my mind you but it would be nice.

Hm my Ducky seems to be plagued by rare and temporary key chatter. Sometimes a single actuation of the 'o' key results in up to 3 inputs. For now it seems rare, but the issue also seems to repeat itself a couple of times until it fades away again for a while. Very odd and annoying. I guess I need to RMA.

Sounds exactly like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hezGqKHvpkI

So I have to get used to it? No chance that a replacement would be more quiet?

Not sure about that one. I never used MX Clears, but according to other reports, they are supposed to be a heavier brown. He mentions using foam to dampen the sound resonating around the case.

Another solution you could do is grab some o-rings to reduce the travel time and limit your chances of bottoming you. It'll make the keystroke a bit mushy, but it might work to your favor.

Don't some Ducky's have a dip switch to adjust the polling rate? Maybe it's set too high out of the box. You could try and clean out the switch with some alcohol and a straw. Otherwise it might just be a defective switch.

Yeah it's pretty common if you bottom out. That's just because of the metal backplate the switches are mounted to. Tradeoffs for extra rigidity.

Das Keyboards have you covered.

Greetech mechanical key switches with gold contacts

I actually tried one but the switches were shitty IMO. It was also really flat on my desk and I couldn't get used to it. The little ruler thing on the backside wasn't thick enough.

I could try one of their older models, as that's what I already have. I forget the detail that hung me up on that. It was either switch related or the dual USB cord thing. I looked into Matias and might give it a go. Really used to my MX browns though..

I wasn't aware of Das making the jump to Greetech until they announced their gaming line of keyboards. Probably to cut down costs.

Matias has a tactile version of their keyboards though I'm not familiar with the types of Alps switches they use. Deskthority wiki says they are clones of Alps black switches.

http://matias.ca/tactilepro4/

Worst case is you can go customizing a WASD keyboard with a mac layout. Choice of cherry switch and all, but no USB hub.

Interestingly it's been pointed out to me that Das still uses Cherry MX brown's in their Mac 4 Pro keyboard in Germany, so it differs by market. They must think we're savages in the US.

Impressions on the Logitech TKL romer g board? g410 I think?
id be so down for a TKL version of the recent K810 o: *salivates*

Cherry factory still doing their thing in the motherland lol. A lot cheaper over there.

I ordered the G810 yesterday and I saw over reddit that Bestbuy broke street date. They also screwed up including an additional Division key on the receipt. I'm pretty anxious to use it though. Not too big of a fan on the G410/G910 keycaps. I'm sure down the line Logitech will produce a G310 TKL of the sort.

I'm getting the Razer BlackWidow RGB Chroma to complete my PC build when my tax return comes. It's $160 dollars but my fucking GOD do I love it. The sound of those keys is so satisfying I can't deal without having it. I also love the color settings. It's just neat. Anyone tell me if they have it and their thoughts?

The only mechanical keyboards i have is the type cover of my Surface Pro 4, in my gaming PC i just have a standard keyboard, that's because i really almost never play with the keyboard but i use the Xbox One controller, and i really dont feel the need to change my desktop keyboard, though the mechanical one on the Surface Pro 4 is awesome, but that device is awesome on its own so...
