oh man that keyboard looks absolutely fantastic in that picture that they have for the preorder. I wouldnt mind jumping to RGB for that kinda club show in my room every night

Ordered the Corsair Strafe. First mechanical keyboard (unless I had one in the early 90's). Hope it's good. Went with MX red's even though I really want the click sound. I'd rather have the least amount of pressure possible to activate the key, more though.
 
So, my Ducky Shine 3 is no more. We went on a 7 day vacation, and by the time we got back a fucking ant colony infested the keyboard... my kid usually uses it.. so it had some crumbs in it.. not many. I took it apart, but just said fuck it and tossed it out. Never in my life have I seen something like that. They were completely under the keyboard in the bottom of the case and inside the board between the board and bottom of keys. Fucking disgusting.

Anyhow, now I need a new keyboard for that PC.. and my son of course hates the cheap ass $13 membrane board I tossed him in the meanwhile.

How's that new G810? Need full-size, no 61's. I'm thinking of the Strafe RGB.

Anything new out there in the sub-150 range? Also no Reds... prefer blue or brown's.
 
Sent in a request to cancel my Pok3r RGB preorder after seeing the new photos that came out with their Facebook giveaway. The original RGB looked amazing and it used nice looking dual-language keycaps, in the new photos it looks like a 60% Disco, same ugly looking RGB with, seemingly, the exact same ugly keycaps. The only reason I considered the Disco was because MK's $10 Ducky keycap upgrade they offered. All the easier after the estimated ship date got delayed 1-2 months.

Well enough I suppose since I was on the fence on if I could give up arrow keys at all, but now I definitely feel comfortable waiting for the Cooler Master Masterkeys S. Looks gorgeous. Though originally, supposedly, the Devastator II was supposed to be out in February with Masterkeys in March, but looking on Amazon it seems like the Devastator doesn't even have a release date yet. Fingers crossed it can make it by late march.

Er, no. I was specifically looking for an RGB keyboard, and felt that while the Disco matched my ideal feature-set perfectly, the lighting and keycaps were ugly compared to other RGB keyboards I've seen, and the newest shots of the Pok3r RGB feature a big downgrade from the original teaser photos that sold me.

I really don't understand the animosity towards RGB from some people. On Massdrop, there's currently 1272 orders in for a keycap set which will cost $64+. You can argue quality differences from stock being a driver but I'm sure a lot of those buyers are double-dippers, aesthetics are important for a lot of people. And if I'm going to be dropping over $120 on a keyboard, heck yes I want to play around with those lights. To each their own.

Competition too much for them? There's a good subsection of the market who just won't buy any other switches.

Don't even think their switches feel that bad to type on really.

There is nothing wrong with that though. It allows them to maximize their sales. To be honest, I can't stand how the romer g switches feel. The spring feel from the keys just feels bleh and the mushy isnt doing anything for me either
 
I'm in the market for a new keyboard seeing as my original black widow has just died.

I was almost set on the Filco Majestouch but I saw that I can get a WASD V2 in a group-buy along with some Dolch ABS caps for less than the Majestouch...

What are your thoughts on these keyboards?

Had it happen on a Filco Convertible 2, ended up replacing the switch. (Soldered.) It isnt too bad opening up the case, follow Ripsters guide! If you dont have a soldering iron / station, Id highly suggest a Hakko FX-888.

Now if youre suggesting this happens on all the keys, Im not sure how to fix that. Controller issue?
 
I finally got these Cherry Blue switches (and one green) that I bought put into a Das 4C and I don't know if I got a bad set or something, but I think they feel worse than the Greetech ones they replaced (and much, much worse than my old Das 2 that's like...between 8-10 years old).


Do switches have to "break-in" or something? These still have a "click" but at the same time feel much "mushier" than I'm accustomed. They feel "heavier" to press too. I guess I should try putting the ABS keycaps back on to see if it's the PBT ones I put on are doing something, but that doesn't seem like it'd be right since they didn't do this when they were on my old keyboard.
 
Have had the corsair strafe for a couple weeks now. My first mechanical keyboard. I got the cherry mx red one. Honestly...not that impressed. It's a nice keyboard and it feels a little better than my coolermaster $30 keyboard. Lacks dedicated media keys, I liked the blue LED's better on the CM one. It does feel sturdier and nicer to type on but not mindblowing. I really thought it would be an insane difference. Maybe I shouldn't have went with reds. Also the spacebar sucks. It feels cheap and doesn't offer the same sort of feel. Probably due to it being bigger than the other keys. I like the optional textured WASD keys though.

I thought the keys would be much more sensitive as well.

Ordered myself a DAS 4 professional with blue switches. I've been eyeing for for years but now that it's finally available here I pulled the plug.

Ended up picking up this keyboard from Monoprice while it was on sale. It has red gaterons, which I guess are Cherry Red derivatives(I wanted a quieter keyboard and the smaller amount of force was appealing), and so far, I'm digging the shit out of it coming off a membrane. It's so...smooth.

The Enter button is weird though. Keep accidentally hitting that backslash.
 
I recently picked up a Steelseries 6Gv2 (Cherry MX Black) as my first mechanical keyboard and it has been great so far. Making the switch from membrane to MX Black switches was weird as hell for about the first week or so. It was a pretty difficult transition.

After getting used to it though, damn, MX Blacks are really nice and the Steelseries 6Gv2 is built like a tank.

I want to get a new keyboard to replace my Dell SK-8135 (a good keyboard in its own right but it's starting to show its age), and I was thinking of the getting the Cosair K70 RGB with brown switches, but I also sort of want to "try before I buy" since I don't have much experience with the different switches.

Does Best Buy or Fry's Electronics usually stock brown switches to try out (or anywhere else)? I generally only see blues and reds... I like the sound of browns from what I hear through youtube videos though.
 
I've been using the CM Storm what, almost 3 years now I guess? Thinking of getting something new.

Thoughts on either the Corsair Strafe RGB vs CM Masterkeys RGB?

The corsair strafe has a really good rgb controller that allows for some nice effects. How ever it has a non-standard bottom row layout which makes it really hard to get replacement key caps for it.

CM keyboard doesn't have the fancy controller so it's lighting isn't as impressive, that said it does have a standard layout not including the extra keys for the full sized version. So getting a full replacement set is easier.

Strangely enough, the brown switch version of this was my first mechanical keyboard too, and probably for the same reason (Argos misprice).

These kinds of keyboards were extremely commonplace and cheap when I was younger, so I'll admit that I was baffled by some of the prices they now demand.

I can't say getting one has changed my mind exactly, but the overall build quality and design is impressive enough to make paying the extra worthwhile. Perhaps not the RRP, mind.

- tenkeyless design
- MX switches (preferably browns)
- volume wheel
- wrist rest
- backlighting optional (but if present, it has to be either white or rgb)

Does such a wonder exist?

I don't know of any tkl boards with a volume wheel, typically they would put that above the numpad along with the LED array. Would you be satisfied with function keys or dedicated media keys? Because then there are a few options. Wrist rest you can just buy a separate (and better) one.

Corsair K70 RGB LED mechanical keyboard (Brown) is pretty close.

It has everything but the tenkeyless design, so that's something to consider.
 
Hey guys I am bored with my K70 cherry red and want to replace them with something else.

I need a mechanical keyboard which has cherry blue, backlight buttons (backlit?). With/without numpad are okay. Mostly for typing (not for gaming since I am do gaming on console).

At the moment I am looking at CODE 61-Key and CODE 87-Key WASD keyboards, but I need another reference.

No, not really. I've had keyboards with those in the past (my current one has 'em as well), but I never found myself using them. Meanwhile I can't stop playing around with the volume wheel on my brother's G710+ whenever I visit. It just feels ... so right for the job, unlike fiddling around with -/+ keys.

Dunno about buying a separate wrist rest. I tend to move the keyboard around a lot, so I'd rather have one that's attached.

I remember looking at that keyboard, I got put off by all the reports of a pinging sound when releasing keys.
 
Dad Keyboard 4 Professional has good dedicated volume controls on it. It's not tenkeyless but it is pretty thin and lightweight. Give it a look, you can get it with brown switches.

I have exactly the same, you will LOVE it, despite its noisy. As for the gaming, its fine, you will get used to it.

Errr, my bad, I thought you meant the K65 RGB.

Yeah, if I can't find one with ALL the features I listed, I'll probably be deciding between the K65 (tenkeyless, no wheel) and the K70 (has volume wheel, but is full size).

It's truly amazing how with literally hundreds of different keyboards available there isn't one that's EXACTLY how I want it.
 
Purchased a Logitech G810 today should arrive sometime next week. Pretty good price plus a free copy of the Division pushed me over the edge. Have not had any experience with Romer-G switches but it can't be that bad can it??
