Lez talk mechanical keyboards

Yeah I thought I would like browns on paper myself, but after testing the tactile bump is not noticeable enough personally.
Browns are awesome, but I prefer clears for that reason. Very nice bump with slightly more actuation force necessary. Less mistypes for me.

Help what do I do the middle switch is stuck and I'm too afraid to brute force it :(

I've joined the ranks today

I hated that mouse. Too big for me, I could never reach the forward most side button and the sniper button felt useless. The rgb lighting was lame. Plus some overboard 12000 dpi lol. Brought it back to Bestbuy and got a Logitech g602 wireless mouse and never looked back. I hope you like it though.

I just want to make a case for the cheaper mechanical keyboards you can find out there.

I've had a steelseries 6GV2 and Blackwidow in the past (Black and Blue respectively)

I've bought these in the past few months and they're both great:

VicTop Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

Magicforce

I personally think RGB is a whole load of nothing - just to say I haven't seen a reason to go back to spending double the amount on keyboards again - both serve me brilliantly.

Me too. I got a redragon kumara tkl on amazon for around $40 and it's amazing. Keys feel like cherry Mc blues. They also carry an rgb programables for around $60. Best cheap mechanical I've bought.

So this is the keyboard I'm currently using at the office. It's the Monoprice D20 RGB with Cherry MX Blue switches. I thought it would be too loud, but it seems fine for the noise level in my office. (I work in an open environment, but nobody is next to my desk.)

It's supposed to be RGB, but I guess I either didn't have it turned on, it just doesn't show in photos. It's the first RGB keyboard I owned, but I was more excited for the two USB, headphone and mic passthough jacks in the the upper right hand corner.

Poker II keyboards are $90 at Newegg this week.

Just got a Masterkeys Pro S.

Love it, but hate the way the numeric keys have the symbols rather than the numbers lit up due to the LED placement.

Might have to find some better backlit keycaps just for the numeric row,

I might try putting some flocking underneath the keycaps too, so that only the legends light up, rather than having the glow around the edges of keys too.

Omg dude that thing is so dope. I wish had shelled out st the time!! I saw he had some new wave keycaps up for preorder. I may get one of the rose gold ones.

^do you have any more switches?

I would be too worried about forcing it. Push it down and rock it back and forth maybe?

Also these tools are good I have one.

Ended up using a bent paperclip lol

It really is a very solid piece of hardware. Unfortunately the software is buggy as fuck and I haven't gotten it to work

Is a metallic springy echo sound common or is it just this keyboard? I picked up a Logitech G810 and I'm getting that sound quite a bit, its kinda annoying.

Yeah the software you use to program a plank was dicey as heck. Ramas custom thing looked slick, sad to hear it's buggy. :(

I saw him teasing that 36key a week or so ago..

So I made some pretty dumb decisions.

Someone was getting rid of all their keyboards and I bought 5 in one day for $350.
Realforce 87ub 55G, Leopold FC660C, Ducky Premiere, Ducky Professional 2, CM Storm Green..

I now have too many keyboards. This what my current list looks like:

Hybrid Mechanical Electrocapacitive
1. Leopold FC660C – 45g- Topre
2. HHKB Pro 2 – 45g -Topre
3. Realforce RGB – 45g -Topre
4. Realforce UB87 - 55G - Topre
5. Abko Hacker RGB 985p 55g - Clone of Topre

Clicky
1. Anne Pro RGB Wireless – Gateron Blue
2. CM Storm TKL Limited Edition LED– Cherry MX Green
3. Rosewill K9000 LED – Cherry MX Blue
4. IBM Model M 1980s – Buckling Spring

Tactile Non Clicky
1. Varmilo VB87M - Gateron Brown

On the way I have a Plum 87 coming in. I know pics or it didn't happen:

^ I may be just slightly jealous of that above post haha. Mostly the IBM, but good god some of those other low% boards look real nice.

I have a CM quickfire rapid-i, but I impulse bought this on amazon last night as it was 50% off at £37.99 and I wanted a non-10 keyless keyboard for my main desk. I'll probably put the rapid-i on the other setup at the other side of the room. It's just cherry clone from what I gather, and they resemble blues, which I've been wanting to try, as I use browns at the moment. It's probably not the highest quality in reality, but I'm willing to give it a go for that price. I'll post impressions later in the week.

I just came back from Japan and I bought two HHKB Type-S and a Filco Majestouch 2 Ninja Cherry Red. For gaming the red is amazing and for just pure typing I love the HHKB. Never used Topre switches until now and I tested some Realforce keyboards while at the stores as well. Selling one of the HHKB's in the GAF marketplace here if anyone is interested.

NIce! That leopold is such a good layout. I've been meaning to get around to building a cherry version for over a year now.

Keycaps came in from China. Look great. Big improvement over stock caps.

Only had a few size issues which is to be expected with a 75% keyboard.

Hiya!

I had a quickfire with blues that the removeable usb cable got flakey on. Shorts out and you drop keys, gotta wiggle it in the board.

i am looking to replace it with a tenkeyless with browns. budget of around 80$

You guys have any suggestions?

holy fuck.

u tryina sell any of them?

Would look good on a Pok3r. Or any 65 percent keyboard.

As for mainstream boards Ducky is a safe bet. Followed by Cooler master Master pro series.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I want a full size keyboard. I love the Pok3r, but I'm not into anything smaller than TKL.. I have an MK Disco that's my travel kb for work that I might put one pair onto, but I really want a full size.

Got a FC660C coming. Finally found a decent price for a white one. Interested to compare it to the HHKBP2 in more detail. Not looking forward to relearning Backspace again though, we'll see.

Just something quite special...

I bought some domes from a Sony BKE 2011 - these are very rare Topre domes that are 35g but MORE tactile than traditional Topre domes. Going to swap them into either my HHKB or a FC660c. What should I do?

I gotta say, the lack of support of the M-10A is pretty damn dissapointing. It's been almost a month and I still haven't gotten mine to work at all.

There's gotta be some alternative way to program it. The dirty way.

Nah it's a bummer for sure! What exactly is the issue? The software package is just crappy and unusable? Is it a custom controller? I would bet there is some OEM software out there that will work.

Unless I'm mistaken, it uses an ATMega32u4, which means TMK and QMK firmwares are usable, so you get full control/compatibility and a LOT of flexibility...

When plugged in, the keyboard does A through J

You have to set up the Configurator with macros and then press the reset button on the hardware to get the Configurator to connect to the keypad and then upload whatever you need.

Unfortunately, I can't get to that step. Pressing the reset button does nothing, it just causes the keypad to stop working.

The massdrop thread has tons of people talking about it, and the programmer of the Configurator tried to upload a hack to get it to work...but it still doesn't work. I tried emailing the guy two weeks ago, no response. And it just seems like he ghosted the Massdrop thread.

It's annoying. Just at least give us a timeframe of when we can actually expect the damn thing to work.

FC660C got here today.

Like the sound. Has a bit of a deeper ring to it than the HHKBP2. Annoyed by the Backspace position as expected, hopefully that won't take too long to adjust back to. Also prefer the keycap font on the HHKBP2 to the FC660C, though I prefer the increased contrast of the modifier keys on the white version of both keyboards.

While I think the Backspace thing is definitely superior on the HHKBP2, I suspect I'm going to switch to this as my daily driver thanks to the dedicated arrow cluster. Also I have to admit the sound is a little bit more satisfying, and maybe the best I've heard from a Topre-based 'board yet.

Just a heads-up but for the next few days Massdrop is hosting a drop for a Cooler Master Masterkeys S.

It's using Cherry MX Silver switches, which are like Reds with shorter actuation at 1.2mm instead of 2mm. It's relatively cheap as far as mechanical keyboards go and has a pretty unassuming design if you're not looking for LEDs everywhere and gamer marketing aesthetics.

It also has PBT keycaps on it, so that's pretty nice.

Both the HHKB and FC660C have replacement Hasu controllers available that make them fully programmable so you could move the Backspace. Topre to MX sliders are also starting to become available if you are interested in changing the keycaps.

I think I'll just let it rock because it screws me up every once in a while outside my own workspace. It usually just takes a few days (though I think the HHKB layout will probably always be a little superior in that regard and kind of wish ANSI in general was setup that way).

Yeah that big pipe/backslash key is just such a stupid design.

I put on a set of PBT keycaps on my work keyboard. It really helps the back lighting on my keyboard to shine.

Edit: previous stock keycaps had some really dumb gamer Font on it. These new white ones look normal. It's so much better.

A lot of the reviews talk about these 75% keyboards in the context of a travel keyboard, but how are they as a primary keyboard? I'm trying to comfortably fit both my keyboard and mouse on my keyboard tray and this may be the size most appropriate. I do a pretty even split between gaming and tying.

I just bought into the Pok3r RGB Massdrop. Shame MX Clears were not an option! Had to go with browns even though my DasKeyboard already runs browns. Can't live without that tactile bump!
