Thanks for that Wallach, good info.
Do you know offhand if those increase latency?
update for my fellow mech-lovers: people at work complained too much about my das keyboard (silenced model even) so I had to stop using it and switch to some awful membraney dell crap.
gutted.
I have been using a Das in the office for about a year now and it is fantastic

At home I use a steelseries 6gv2 [mainly because I don't want to drive my wife and daughter nuts with the click click click] but I am not a big fan of the keyboard. The amount of pressure you need to apply for a key to register is silly.
I was looking at possibly getting a mechanical keyboard for the first time. I think I might go with Brown's as a middle of the rode type of thing.
I was thinking about getting a DAS but I heard they switched OEM's to some crappy one.
Any recommendations for a Cherry-Brown Switch Mechanical Keyboard? Budget can be from $75-140.
Max Keyboard Nighthawk X8. See my post above. Hits the ceiling of your price range though.

So I spilled a little bit of water (it couldn't have been more than half a shot worth, if that) on my Razr Black Widow, and not it doesn't respond when plugged in. Am I fucked? I can't believe that little of an amount would kill the whole thing.
My (non-mechanical) Razer keyboard crapped out after 1 year of use. Pretty sure Razer just sucks at anything that's not a mouse.
Anyone have opinions on QPAD MK-50 vs SteelSeries 6G V2 Red Edition? They cost roughly the same and both are red.
The QPad has a wristpad which gives it a slight advantage I guess. Is a wristpad important?
So, just got the CM Quickfire Rapid Browns.
The new ones come with minimal branding. Sexy.

Unfortunately, there was a very small concentrated batch Costar apparently had issues with left ALT. All issues have been fixed and it will not happen on any further board. We are able to track down the exact order these came in on, unfortunately it affects Blue, Red & Brown switches but in a very limited fashion. Also its impossible to recall the whole shipment because only about 1 out of 20 boards suffer the issue.
Please understand this was something we didnt catch, but do apologize, and assure you we have tightened up QC BIG time on our Costar boards.
Can I ask where you got the newer one from? That looks much nicer then the heavily branded model.
I'd like to know as well.
And are the red WASD keys standard or were they replaced?
The boards pictured on Amazon have the branding.
I bought the blue and black from amazon and returned them and can confirm that the red keys come standard. I didn't like the click on the blue and the black were way too hard to push. I'd like to try the brown but really want the minimal branding and hoping the construction is improved.
They even include the tool to remove the keys.
So, just got the CM Quickfire Rapid Browns.

I use a Ducky shine 2 tenkeyless with white backlighting and red switches at home and I really like it for gaming. However, when it comes to every day typing I greatly prefer the DAS pro keyboard with brown switches that I use at work. I don't have enough experience with mechanical keyboards to tell you if that's because of the difference in switches or the brand. That said, they're both very good.I LOVE MY DUCKY. MY ducky with blue backlighting.
But I now I see they are making a Shine 2 with no numpad. shit! I need that in my life. Same amazing feel, but with less desk space taking, yet still cord and sick backlighting? when I use the highest level of backlighting I can light up my entire room, yet the lowest setting is barely visible. I love how there are so many levels of brightness.
Be honest with me. Are they really worth it? Do you feel as though your a better gamer with them or is it just something you're used to or prefer??
thanks!

The best value in mechanical keyboards is the Rosewill board. It goes on sale at Newegg pretty regularly to around $65. People say that it is the same manufacturer as Filco; I don't know if that's true, but it's solid, high-performance with a clean, no-nonsense look.
Word of warning regarding the CM Quickfire Brown, Blues and Reds.
If you really want one, I'd suggest waiting a few weeks till we are sure that the current defective stock has been sold.
I had to RMA mine since the ALT-key failed. It still sucks to pay 20$ shipping from Canada for a 70$ board.

Just got my Max Keyboard Nighthawk X8. It's fucking awesome.
Full green backlighting, Cherry MX Brown switches, installed o-ring dampeners and it feels like sex when I type.

1 month later, still absolutely loving my Nighthawk. You guys should really check these out.
