Lez talk mechanical keyboards

Any KBT Race (or even Pure) users in this thread? Thinking about getting one -- but the size and layout would be new to me. Want to know the learning curve.

Love the way it looks.
I use a Race for 3 weeks now and it's awesome. Its build quality is fantastic.

I'm rocking a MaxKeyboard right now and I love it. It's just that the compact look and proposed feel of the Race has me really intrigued.

How long did it take you to get used to it from a regular layout?
The only thing I had slight issues with was Del/Home/Pg Up/Pg Down stuff, but overcame that fairly quickly.

Which Keyboard would you guys recommend for Starcraft 2 and other strategy games? My current one is a cheap Medion one and I'm missclicking a lot. I thought about the CM Quickfire Pro (brown switches), but I thought I would ask here 1st.

Thanks in advance. :)

CM Quickfire Pro (brown switches)

I bought that one recently as my first mechanical, and I like it. Cons: Somewhat gaudy red backlight that only lights half of the keys. But the price:performance ratio seems pretty solid. I may upgrade in the future, but it's more than enough for me right now.

I recently went from the steel series one to a ducky tenkeyless cherry red switches with blue backlight. I really like this thing. I don't notice much of a difference in the red from the black switches I had but the programmable lighting on the keys is sick for starcraft2. You can light just the keys you hotkey with. I use the grid layout with the ` key for my base camera so it doesn't do much for me because all my hotkeys are on the left. I paid like $130 from here http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=167

I use a CM Quickfire Pro red and I primarily play League of Legends. It look a little bit of getting used to the sensitivity (about a week I'd say) but now I wouldn't change it for anything.

MaxKeyboard for life. I've pimped their keyboards several times in this thread. STILL incredibly satisfied with my Nighthawk X8.

And btw I would recommend brown switches for games like StarCraft II and World of Warcraft.

I bought that same keyboard as my first mech a month or so ago, and I'm happy with it. I've never used another mechanical keyboard, so I guess I don't really have any point of comparison other than a normal rubber dome keyboard. The browns are recommended for RTS games, if I remember correctly, which is mostly what I've been doing with it.

Had my Filco Majestouch 2 for almost a year now and I don't regret the purchase at all. My brother was down for the weekend and brought his PC with his old school Microsoft internet keyboard and let me tell you, I could NEVER go back to that. So glad I made the upgrade, no matter how awkward it felt in the beginning.

I love mine so much. I even kept that plastic tray thing as a dust cover for whenever I don't use it.

I don't understand why you guys are paying so much for a keyboard. My go to keyboard is a $6 wired gear head from Fry's. I've got 3 of them. Pretty sure it's mechanical too.

This looks like crap

avoid Rosewill!

Cheap brand. My routinely drops connection to computer. Think the USB jack on the keyboard is fucked; saw similar things on Amazon reviews after the fact.

I grew up with those clicky keyboards so they're not a novelty to me. I see them for what they are. Inferior. But I guess somepeople like them.

That $6 gear head has more of an Amiga 500 feel.

you grew up with buckling spring monstrosities, not a modern cherry switched beauty.

that keyboard is hideous trash and the kernel of every disappointment in your life.

MSI announced their own mechanical keyboard today. It's called the GK-601, has Cherry MX Red keys, yellow backlighting, onboard memory for macros, and costs an unknown number of dollars.

Assuming there aren't any major issues I still intend to get a K70 when EU availability increases (the Corsair webstore charges crazy money for shipping).

you think that's it huh? Wait til you see the mouse that I use.

edit: actually this is a badass mouse. it lights up and flashes blue and red leds.

Currently using a black Filco Majestouch Ninja with blue switches and it is far and away my favorite keyboard to date. I had a custom WASD that I enjoyed, but I definitely prefer blue switches, Filco boards just look so much sleeker, and Filco boards definitely feel of the highest quality. I paid $175 for it, but it was worth every penny. I won't be changing keyboards for years.

Man I wish the K70 came with white backlighting. Still waiting for the K95, but it looks to be like too keyboard. Still looking at the nighthawk X9...

Are there any slick Das keyboards with white backlighting?

...Forget it... they don't come with MX Red switches.

I love that MSI is running with the black and yellow color scheme. Keep it us MSI.

Interesting, considering the same firm makes the keyboards for Cooler Master, Filco, and Rosewill.

Have two employees at work on Rosewills for about two years now. The only complaint would be that the spacebar is a little loose now.

I have a Cherry Blue switch Rosewill that I use at the office (and what I am typing on right now). I love it. I've had it since December and I spend all day typing on it. Got it at a great price too.

I've personally never heard a bad thing about Rosewill.

Guys, I've been looking at mechanical keyboards for a while now. Gonna buy one next week. A Razer Black Widow I think from BestBuy.

Will get that if I can't find a keyboard that is exactly how I want. :P I probabaly sound really childish right now but, I really want a black mechanical keyboard, with a blue led backlight, and a Cherry Blue or Brown switch. Perferably blue. Also $130 price range, max $150. :P

The Razer Black Widow is perfect, just I don't like the green led backlight (It's not bad though) and I hear it has driver issues with Windows 8, which is the OS I use.

There are some really good recommendations on this thread. MechanicalKeyboard.com will help you filter what you are looking for -- although I've found that they don't keep a consist stock of the boards.

I've been very happy with MaxKeyboard. When doing my research, all I found were positive reviews and now that I've had one for over 4 months you can add mine to the mix. Their boards come in a variety of switches and colors. Only reason I am looking to switch from MaxKeyboard is because I think I want a more compact board (TenKeyless).

Also, MaxKeyboard fits your budget.

Search a little more. Don't settle if you are going to plunk $150 on a board. You are going to be using this thing for a very long time. Be satisfied.

Much much much better quality board. The Razer is in the same product range as the Rosewills and CM Storms. Not bad, but should be around $70 for what you get.

I want blue switches and back lighting.

contemplating to get blackwidow 2013 ultimate but I've seen comments and videos about defects causing some keys such as space bar and shift sticking to adjacent keys.

Any opinions on the blackwidow ultimate?
Is there a difference between blackwidow ultimate 2013 and blackwidow ultimate t1 2013?

Other options available at my country are ducky, cm storm, majestouch (too bad there's no backlighted stuff for majestouch).

So I'm in the market for a new work keyboard since I use this thing every day and can justify spending a few coins to make it better.

Currently using some bog standard Dell keyboard that looks exactly like this:

Looking through the thread I quite like the Noppoo Choc Mini since it's smaller but still has insert/delete/home/end/etc which I use daily (SQL). Anyone have any negative experiences with the keyboard?

I think blue keys works perfectly for rps! Das keyboard is amazing, but I also really like Ducky's. Any mechanical keyboard, regardless of keys, will feel like a huge improvement though

Been using a Logitech G15 for almost five years now, so I took the plunge and ordered a das keyboard model s with blue switches.

Hope it'll last me five years too!

Picked up a Keycool 84 (reds) with backlighting recently and enjoying it so far. Coming from a rosewill 104 (also reds) the size difference is huge and not finding myself missing the numpad yet; although I do miss the menu key along the bottom row. Build quality seems solid except for one foot is shorter so it wobbled, stuck some paper under it and its good.

That's a perfect layout.

Bought my first mechanical keyboard on Tuesday, so enjoyable to type on compared to normal plastic ones. Wish i'd bought one sooner.
