Lez talk mechanical keyboards

With the WASD V2 keyboards supposedly coming out this month (from their blog) I'm planning on getting one of their boards with Cherry MX Brown switches. I'm just not sure whether to get dampeners or not and if I do which ones. On their site right now they have .2 and .4 mm travel reduction dampeners, anyone that has used them have any recommendations whether to go for them or not?

I have a Ducky (no numpad) and a weird problem. Often the cursor when I'm typing gets "stuck" so that it will just type over a single character instead of progressing. Any idea what could be causing this?
 
Picked up a CM Storm QuickFire Rapid with browns for my brother's build... It's his first mechanical, so I didn't want to break the bank, but I felt it was important that he have a tenkeyless board (limited space). I was pleasantly surprised by the build quality when I pulled it out of the box - has a good heft to it and the detachable braided cord is a cool feature. Even has some nice extras like a lock on the Windows key in game mode and media keys.

Seriously a lot of good stuff for the price, have to echo all the recommendations for it in this thread. :)
 
I'm going to return my Corsair Vengeance K70 keyboard because I can't get used to Cherry MX Reds. They're usable (unlike Blues, which require too much force) but I make too many typos so my fingers end up being very hesitant and slow.

I know it's the second time I'm returning a keyboard and it's gonna cost me a lot in shipping fees but I don't know of any places I could try the different types of mechanics around here. At least, now, I have tried the three most popular types so I shouldn't have to change my mind again.

For now I'm sticking to my Zowie Celeritas, which -except for the missing/broken left Shift key and the absence of backlighting- I have been satisfied with for nearly a year. I'll order the Corsair Vengeance K70 with Cherry MX Browns as soon as it's available.

I adapted pretty fast to the reds, still curious what browns feel like though.

I think I'm in the exact same boat as you. I've had this K70 for about 2 1/2 weeks now and while the keyboard itself is awesome, this is my first mechanical one and I find myself making 30x more mistakes than I normally would have on my previous keyboard.

Every slight touch as I move my hand across the keyboard registers a button press and I'm constantly rewording whatever I type. You wouldn't happen to have bought yours off Amazon, would you? From what I read, a Brown switched keyboard may be the type that suits my preferences better, and since the K70 is coming out with a Brown version soon, I've been wondering about Amazon's return policy and if I'm able to send mine back. I'd love to just swap it out if I'm able to.

For the last couple of years I have been using the built-in Macbook Pro keyboard, and I've had enough. I need to write a lot of code each day and I'm looking to get a new Mac Pro this year. This keyboard seems like the best bet to me. I don't care so much about the price, I just want the best product.. not so much the best value.

The best bet for me seems to be the Realforce 87U. Any suggestions, thoughts, or ideas?

You can order a switch sampler pack from wasdkeyboards. Any particular reason why you are set on the Corsair in specific?
 
Just got a Tt Meka G1 for $35 after rebate... not liking it as much as my Rosewill w/ cherry reds I had before (that one broke after the connector stopped working). Guess I like reds/blues over blacks?

Feels pretty damn solid so far though.

The look and finish are pretty much perfect. The only thing I'm not satisfied with is the Cherry MX Reds.

Edit: I would like a tenkeyless version but it's no big deal.

I've ordered my keyboard at Materiel.net. I don't know if you can still sent your keyboard back to Amazon. It might depend on the laws of your country and Amazon's policy. In France I have a legal right to send my product back 7 days after receiving it, if I ordered it online and it's not something like CDs or something.

Looks goddamn sexy.

As for typos on the red; I found myself taking a week or two to adjust. But now they feel great, and I won't go back.

I was seriously typoing the heck of everything at first. But now I'm typing faster than ever with the same accuracy I've always had. It's hard to say but my accuracy may have even improved as I've gradually adapted. I love the responsive keys, and I'm finding it fantastic for games as well.

One thing's for sure, Red or Browns, the K70 is a gorgeous keyboard to have on your desk. It has all the features I could want without the extras I don't and is made from great materials.

I won't buy from American sites because then I'd have to pay lots of $$$ in shipping + custom fees. Also, I want backlighting and an AZERTY layout (I might switch to QWERTY in the far future but I won't buy an expensive keyboard with that layout before I get used to it).

The K65 could have been a choice if only it had MX Browns and backlighting.

The CM Storm Quickfire TK is definitely an option (with a pretty competitive price) but it's ugly.

That aside, I'll second this. It was tough getting used to reds jumping in from a membrane keyboard. They ARE very sensitive. However, I've adapted well and type at least as well as I used to, if not better. Gaming is also excellent. I haven't tried Browns before but I love my red switch keyboard.

Materiel.net just e-mailed me, saying I sent them the keyboard ONE day after the legal 7-day period expired so they won't refund my card. However, as an EXCEPTIONAL and COMMERCIAL gesture, they're repaying me the equivalent as credit to be used exclusively on their store.

I don't like the way they're wording this and I wish I got those 130 € back as 'real' money but this will do.
 
Has anyone gone full Geekhack and replaced their keys with PBT ones? The main keys on my Filco have gotten shiny and I was contemplating it, I miss the days when the keys felt brand new.

Probably some drivers stuff. It took mine a few minutes to be ready to be used.

I know you solved it already but in case it pops up again, the mini usb connector that plugs into the keyboard on the bottom is VERY stubborn. It will feel like it's in but it's really not. Gotta give it quite a bit of force to get it in there.

On the bright side, once it's in, it's in. I have the same keyboard with red switches.
 
My Das Keyboard Ultimate S came in the mail earlier this morning. This is my first mechanical keyboard, and it's an absolute dream to type on. Consider me a mechanical keyboard convert.
 
Does anyone have experience gaming with greens? I play a lot of battlefield and am thinking about getting the green cm stealth.

I picked up the pro for $70 a few weeks ago on special at Newegg. Fantastic deal and it's a solid keyboard.
 
My saitek eclipse keyboard just died so I've decided to hop into the world of mechanical keyboards. I am thinking brown keys due to my combination of typing and gaming. Should i wait for the k70 brown or get the das keyboard s? They seem to be in the same price range.

I am looking for a backlit keyboard, (not necessarily super great or anything), but backlit and has the numpad on the right. What do you guys recommend?

Do you actually need a numpad? If not, consider a tenkeyless keyboard. It's a big ergonomic upgrade for anyone using the mouse with their right hand.
 
I ordered a CM Quickfire Pro XT (on bottom in picture) as i was sick of my Black Widow always looking dirty (stupid glossy plastic).

While it was a decent keyboard, I kept having problems hitting the left <CTRL> key. So I ordered a Corsair K70 (on top in the picture).

I know it's a crappy pic, but the Storm makes the Windows key so much bigger, and really chumps the <CTRL> keys because of it. Corsair obviously realizes that no one cares about the Windows key that much (which is why most gaming keyboards give you the option to disable it).

Will be returning the Quickfire this week. Loving the K70 luckily.
 
My wife is mad that I want another keyboard but I told her corsiar k70 would make a fine Xmas present Lol. I do like my cm quickfire pro but I would like the k70 more.
 
Mechanical keyboard newbie here. Looking to buy a new mechanical keyboard and I'm having trouble deciding on the switch. I'm going to use it for heavy gaming and moderate amount of typing, so apparently browns are the most balanced between the two extremes? I don't have a Fry's or Microcenter near me so looking for keyboards to test it out is more trouble than I think it's worth. I did buy a switch sampler from WASD and I'm fiddling with them now.

I'm fond of the Browns and Reds. Black seems a bit too "heavy". Not sure how I feel about Blue and Clear has the same problem as Black (to me).
 
Browns are the best of both worlds, IMO. You get a soft touch (lighter than I was expecting, really), and still get some feedback as to when the switch is actuating, which is very handy in games. I've got a WASD V1, I love it.
