Liam Neeson announces retirement from action films

Finally going to pursue that career in comedy.
He was awesome in the Candy Crush movie.

It's weird that this action movie run came so late because I'm pretty sure the first movie I ever saw him in was an action movie with Darkman back in 1990 or 1991.

I absolutely love Taken but everything hje's done since has been such utter shash.

Unknown is watchable I suppose but the Taken sequels, plus that one on a plan, were awful.

smokescreen for his next movie. His character will become the hero and it will take everyone by surprise because we all thought he retired.

Has he finally learned to do what is necessary?

he is also in one of the Dirty Harry movies.

Yes The Dead Pool, which is a self-parody kind of film, and he has a pretty laughable American accent in it too, and they try to make it a mystery and Neeson is one of the suspects (spoilers: he's not the villain), it's pretty blatant he isn't though. Awesome car sequence as well.

Bizarre late career twist for Liam, I must admit, but the money must have be good.
It's weird that this action movie run came so late because I'm pretty sure the first movie I ever saw him in was an action movie with Darkman back in 1990 or 1991.
If I recall, he started doing his action movies streak because it helped him cope with his wife's death.

So if anything, this new development is a good thing

I remember him saying that he started doing dumb action movies after he lost his wife cuz it was too painful to try to "go there" for dramatic scenes and he just wanted to have fun for a bit. Guess he is healing and growing as an artist. Good for him.

Here it is:
But the reason why he keeps making action films like “Non-Stop” (in theaters Feb. 28) isn’t just for the money. It helps him avoid “wallowing in sadness” after the death of his wife.

“I’m not good without work,” the actor told Anderson Cooper in an interview (above) during Sunday’s edition of “60 Minutes”. “I just don’t – I just don’t wallow too much. You know? And I just didn’t want to – especially for my boys – seem to be wallowing in sadness or depression.”
According to a 2011 Esquire interview, Neeson said it has been this work which has helped him get through Richardson's passing.

"I think I survived by running away some," said Neeson. "Running away to work. Listen, I know how old I am and that I'm just a shoulder injury from losing roles like the one in Taken. So I stay with the training, I stay with the work. It's easy enough to plan jobs, to plan a lot of work. That's effective. But that's the weird thing about grief. You can't prepare for it. You think you're gonna cry and get it over with. You make those plans, but they never work."

So yeah, Neeson feeling like he doesn't need to do action movies anymore is really great

I really enjoyed non stop and run all night. But seeing him in Silence made me realize what we've been missing for a while now. Dude can do more than just world weary badass

Lol, except for the two action films due out next year...

Good for Neeson, though. A Walk Among the Tombstones and Run All Night were decent genre flicks.

That's all good. I've felt that his best performances were in films such as Les Miserables and Kingdom of Heaven where he wasn't expected to act like an action hero.

So did Bruce Willis and look at him now, doing more action movies than ever.

I'm sure Liam will be back for Tooken 6

Also, I get really sad whenever I hear why he decided to pick only action movies.

Well, Bruce can't act for shit and must have bad money issues to take some of the shit roles he has been taking.

None of that applies to Neeson.

"Good luck."

Congrats, Liam. I really loved the entire Taken trilogy.

E: Holy shit, I had no idea he was battling all that sadness in his life.

Good for him, he had a good run as an action hero. Let me tell you, every time I accidentally bump my head or get a bad headache, I think of his wife. It really brought to light for me just how fragile our heads are.

Christopher Lee was doing laser sword fights backflipping and getting beheaded when he was like 84, Liam Neeson is weak.

Taken was a really fun movie series,
he earned his retirement. :)

I'm probably the only one alive that wouldn't mind a follow up to Rob Roy which is probably my favorite movie from him.
