It's surreal how fast the opposition fighters managed to penetrate into the heart of Tripoli. wow. This war will be examined, scrupulously, from every angle by military tacticians.
Conclusion: having NATO on your side is a plus.

The government forces realize they are on the losing side and don't want to get bombed by NATO

Rebel convoy a kilometer from the Green Square. If Libyan state tv is still streaming live images from green square, then won't they show rebels and their supporters pouring into their symbolic stand?

Air superiority is a wonderful thing.

NATO probably bombed them a road straight to Tripoli.

I'd believe it. For the longest time it seemed like the rebels couldn't hold much territory beyond Benghazi but from what I've read NATO did a pretty good job of systematically destroying Gaddafi's communications and artillery.

Sirte (sp?) is still under Gaddafi loyalist control. Also, I read somewhere that the Western rebels are pissed with the "leadership" in the east for having done very little of the fighting in the last couple of months, and fighting over who's in charge.

Jesus, that seems like some party in Tripoli.

true, but most military experts were saying air power and a disorganized rabble of civilians who took up arms would result in a long, grinding conflict. The bombing of Yugoslavia was also cited as an example, since it was only the threat of NATO ground invasion that convinced the Serb forces to withdraw from Kosovo.

Clearly a victory for the Libyan people, but also a victory for Anglo-French foreign policy, a validation of NATO's role and cause for celebration for its Arab allies.

I was optimistic about today, but the battle for Tripoli seems to have been far less bloody than we all feared.

actually, embedding themselves in Tripoli, as they did in the Battle of Misurata, would have worked to their advantage, since NATO cannot operate in such conditions without risking major civilian casualties.

Stops too early.

Seems too easy after all the back and forth the rebels had been facing for the months before. I hope he doesn't have something insane planned like having bombs planted all throughout the city to detonate when they capture him.

Was this not also reported a few days ago?
That and Venezuela, but these planes are something new.

If the Rebel Alliance gets the airport, good luck on take off clearance!

I'm tempted to think things like that at times, but then you have to remember life isn't like TV or the movies, things like that rarely happen.

Uhhh, good luck on NATO letting any plane leave without permission

I thought the airport was under NTC control?
