Life is Strange 2 confirmed by DONTNOD co-founder Alain Damasio

they should do a wholly different power and also a different setting/age of cast

in fact they shouldn't even make a life is strange 2 and just work on something else. this is silly, i loved the game but god damn a sequel?!!
Just because they are currently calling it Life is Strange 2 doesn't mean it's a direct sequel. They were probably calling LiS "Remember Me 2" during initial planning and development.

One thing I really hope they do is ditch the episodic format.
Just release the game and let us play, instead of making us wait 9 months to get a complete game.

Best possible news to wake up to. Finished Season 1 the other day and it might edge out Bloodborne as my GOTY.

Will miss Arcadia Bay and its inhabitants, but I'm interested to see what they do with a new cast and setting. Do we think they'll stick with the "teenager gets weird superpower" plot? I loved the time travel mechanics but might actually prefer if they try something different this time. Precognition (without the rewind safety net) or telepathy, maybe?

And Episode 5 was great.

I was talking with my brother about this, and I think it could be brilliant. You could learn an info, or a secret, but you better find out if anyone else knows it, because if the person told nobody, and you tell it, he/she will wonder how you know it, whereas if someone knows it, you could lie and say the person told you.

You'd have to be very careful about what information you "stole" from someone's brain and whether you should use it or not. It could help you, but it also could put you in more trouble.

A new character with new powers I'd be fine with, But mp1990 posted as if DONTNOD had confirmed it was a new character with time-traveling powers.
I'm sorry if it sounded like that, didn't mean to. Just trying to create a discussion on what they could provide in a sequel, not assuming anything.

How easy would it be to make something up and still have season 2 be with Chloe and Max,in spite of whatever happened in Season 1...being careful here because this isnt a spoiler thread but I think its a shame to never see this great duo again,c'mon DontNod,do it...

Still on board though for sure with Season 2,hopefully they create a whole cast of awesome new characters.

Hopefully it's a new type of time travel power. I really hope they focus on the good parts of the game rather than going down the Telltale road of doubling down on the worst stuff.

Glad they are going to use new characters and a new story though.

Again trying to avoid spoilers, it would depend on what they wanted to do. They could do what Bioware did with KOTOR and declare one of the endings canon, but I don't think that would make sense with the overall message of the game. They could make it so that the two endings converge at a certain point, but I suspect that would (for various reasons) piss a lot of people off.

The more I think about it the more I think a line has been drawn definitively under season 1, and I think that's a good thing.

I don't think this will happen. Episodic content has probably been great for them sales wise and it keeps the player engaged with the game for nine months instead of being a one and done experience.

Maybe now they have the budget to make a good story... and get basic "features" right like LIP-SYNCING. lol I hope it's not anything like 1.

awesome

yeah i was gonna say lets ramp up those production values, but they really need to get the basics sorted as a priority next time round.

Life is 2 Strange

You can have that one for free DONTNOD.

Well, if Damasio is this time lead writer, and not only script consultant, I can tell you he's WAY MORE than decent... Well, he's a novelist, so he might make a bad video game writer, as he said himself in the Utopiales 2015 about Video Games and their ability to convey a message "Novelist make for pretty bad screenwriters" ("Les romanciers font souvent de mauvais scénaristes").

So yeah, if Damasio is Lead Writer, it should be more than fine.
The only issue might be if he can write something set in America convincingly? Many people already remarked some of the dialogue sounded very "French". I'm pretty sure the lead writer was American though, so idk if the problematic bits came from Damasio or not.

Damasio didn't write the dialogue in the first season, and yes, the lead writer was American. The dialogue didn't sound French at all, it just sounded off.

And I wouldn't mind if LiS 2 wasn't set in America, to be honest. I wouldn't mind a French original version.

Damasio is good in both style and content, so, if a good translator can recreate his style in English, keeping the content, we'll have a very good story.

Loved the first season (though was admittedly a little disappointed by the finale) so this is great news. Hoping for a new cast of characters in a different location.

I don't think this will happen. Episodic content has probably been great for them sales wise and it keeps the player engaged with the game for nine months instead of being a one and done experience.

It doesn't keep the player engaged, it forces him to wait for nine months between episodes. Or in my case, just wait until they are all out and do a one and done experience. By that time, there are so many discounts, that I feel that anyone who bought the season pass is a huge sucker, I get the same content at the same time, for a fraction of a price and without frustrating pauses between episodes.
Just put it out, then those that feel the need for a year long engagement can pace themselves.

Episodic content is idiotic and needs to go away.

Like I said in the OT, I'm not sure if this interview is legit, since there's no acknowledgement from the official channels (they keep saying they have nothing to say about a season 2). Don't get me wrong, I know it will happen, I'm just not sure if this is the real deal.

I'm glad they found success. I hated their first game, Remember Me, it felt like they were taking their interactive storytelling ambitions and stuffing them into expensive AAA game mold that wasn't very good, and didn't suit their needs. The Life is Strange model is a lot cheaper, and a more accessible structure for the kind of games they want to make.

About Remember Me, Damasio told in the interview (and at the Utopiales 2015) that he wanted to do something completely different with Nilin. He wanted to make her more vulnerable to which the player would identify, and convey a certain message that was completely wiped out by the end.

He said that publishers asked him "Where's the fun?" in his original conception. He wanted the team to make a coherent gameplay even though it might not be "fun", but it would have been relevent in the storytelling. In the end, the memory remix is the only thing that was kept from his original conception of the game.

He tells in this interview that next time he's working on a new game, it would have to be a small team of 6-7 people, to keep some lead and direction in what he wants to do. The problem with Remember Me in his opinion was that it was a AAA game made by 80 or so people, who grew up with common values and references, and the majority ended up shaping the game into a generic AAA game and that Nilin became a super-heroin because of that majority, even though Damasio didn't have that in mind, originally.

Let's hope Dontnod will do what Ninja Theory are doing: splitting into two teams, one of very few people (12 or so people are working on Hellblade I believe, and the rest on a bigger project, yet unannounced) so Damasio can make his ambitions come true, and the bigger team on projects such as LiS/RM/Vampyr.

Thanks, that sounds good. USA as a default setting is indeed getting a bit stale, but it obviously reaches a wider audience and in most cases sells better too (Cage said so as well thus he sets his games there). Unfortunate, but oh well.
Hopefully Damasio comes up with something sweet. He should get more work elsewhere if he does and is up for it.

So did D4, but that isn't going to get any more seasons due to its poor sales.

But they've already been working on season 2 unless they've announced that they've abandoned it recently.

I'm super excited for Life is Strange 2. Finished 1 last night and it might end up being my GOTY. Like others have said, the series becoming an anthology would be a great direction.

I'd like to see a new setting with new characters but I have a gut feeling we may be getting a (Season 1 spoilers)
Rachel Amber season. The way she's referred to by others is almost mythical and makes me think she too had some sort of power.

To the spoiler... eh, I'd personally prefer that just be the way it was in LiS.

I'm hype BUT...new story and characters please. If they pick up after season 1 with the same characters then that means they absolutely need to make one of the end choices cannon which....is sort of shitty.
I'm hoping whatever this is is as good as the original.

I'm so freaking happy you guys.

Max & Chloe's story is done.
I just want to see what else Dontnod can do, best of luck to them.

She
was the McGuffin, a season expanding on the McGuffin isn't something I see (or want) happening.

Ah yes, good point. I guess the PC version didn't change anything in terms of sales because we never heard about it again. :(

Actually, we are supposed to be getting a Season 2 for D4 (there's even a picture Swery released)...

But no one knows when, specially now that Swery had to take time off because of health issues.
