Just to be clear. I pre-ordered the blu-ray David Attenborough version that comes out in June. Is that version uncut with no changes to the music like and exactly like the Euro version?
You have that right.

I've been waiting for this since it was first shown months ago and when I found out Oprah was narrating earlier today my heart sank. I'm trying to get into it but it's almost impossible at this point. She's absolutely terrible. :(

i don't mind oprah's voice, she just does a horrible job at narration. to the point where i think i'll skip watching Life on tv and wait for the bluray release.

But its really not that subpar. Some are really over blowing the narration and making it seem worse than what it is. And I love Attenborough (though these days he talk with too much spit) so its not like I'm not use to his voice.

Just take it for it it is because it will suck if for the next few weeks the only discussion done is on the fucking narration. It doesn't even sound like some are watching, just bitching. I'm watching this version but I plan on buying the BBC version like I did Planet Earth as soon as it gets cheap and shows up on Amazon. Do the same.
I honestly dislike the narration, simply put. American accents not being native to me may be some small part of that.

I do feel happy to have watched this in its original form. A brilliant narrator instead of a subpar one, no commercials when seen on BBC. And if this one really is cut (they're 59 mins per episode without breaks), then I'd strongly recommend holding out for the original version, mostly if you do happen to not like Oprah's narration.

Reptiles man, why do they creep the hell out of most people?

There's something very primordial about them.
Earliest ancestors must have had some terrible encounters with those irksome creatures.

I'm probably not going to watch it until the dvd comes out, but damn it looks cool. The commercials are amazing : D

Modern humanity still does, the Komodo's actively hunt humans on the Indonesian Islands. They seem quite sedate at times, but once the bloodlust begins they become absolutely vicious.

I thought Oprah did fine with the narration even though I wasn't to thrilled that she was doing the narration. There are so many people with better voices, why her?

This image is so horrific for some reason. @_@

Since I don't have HD channels, I refuse to watch it in SD on my tv plus it sounds like I want to avoid the Oprah version. Any word on the blu ray release?

My mother watched Life.

"Look under your seats...

EVERYONE GETS A KOMODO DRAGON!"

Watched an episode.

...

So June right? Because FUCK. I have nothing against Oprah, or Sigourney for that matter, but I FUCKING WANT ATTENBOROUGH YOU UNHOLY MOTHERFUCKERS OF GODDAMN IT! >:(

...so yeah. June. Amazon. On it.

Didn't mind Oprah's narration really at all. HATED the commercial cuts. Some really awful placement of the breaks as well that totally broke the flow.

Also this kinda irked me up a bit.

I was ok with Sigourney Weaver's narration for Planet Earth. I think her voice and emotion worked great for the Discovery Channel's version. Oprah though is out of her depth here and is majorly detracting from my ability to watch Life. I honestly could barely watch it because she completely took me out of the experience. Everyone is right for bashing this.

Life premiere garners nearly 10 million viewers
The two-hour premiere of 11-part, Discovery Channel documentary "Life" Sunday drew 9.4 million viewers, airing across seven cable networks.

Discovery, TLC, Animal Planet, Science Channel, Investigation Discovery, Planet Green and Discovery Health aired the Oprah Winfrey-narrated, circle-of-life-themed doc.

For Discovery itself, "Life" was the most-watched premiere since 2000, the year of "Walking With Dinosaurs" and "Raising the Mammoth." It averaged a 5.24 household rating, and drew 4.3 million viewers among adults 25-54.

Across the multiple networks, nearly 34 million viewers sampled the program.

The UK premiere garnered around 8 million viewers from what I remember, and averaged around 5.5 million throughout the duration of the series.

Fuck yes, mammals and fish tonight! I ain't got no weed though, so it won't seem *quite* as amazing as last week, but I still can't wait

And for some reason, I'm really really looking forward to the plants episode. I've always thought plants were kinda interesting but school has failed horribly at presenting any information about plants in a way that isn't fuck boring, so that episode should be awesome

As well as creatures of the deep :D

Oh god. Skeleton blue mini Sea Horses...

I wish I could fast forward to June 1st and watch this with Attenborough's narration though. Oprah is wack.

Wish they could have kept Weaver.

I really don't understand why everybody hates Weaver, besides knee-jerk I DON'T LIKE CHANGE whining. Listening to the internet, you would think that Planet Earth was narrated by Gomer Pyle, where in reality, Weaver did a very nice job with the narration.

Not to beat a dead horse, but seriously, who pinned Oprah for this? I just can't keep listening to her, she is so very dull, and this type of amazing footage deserves so much better... I really want the Euro version of this :(

You get a car, and you get a car, and you get a car, and you get a car, and YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU get a car!

I can't wait to get this on Blu-Ray. Just like everyone else, fuck Oprah. Gimme Sir David Attenborough

Oprah? Goddammit, time to import.

(Edit: Great, I load up a preview and the first thing I hear after clapping on my phones is Oprah intoning: "...to pass sacs of sperm to an opening near her mouth." :lol)

Ooh, maybe not then.

I wish they would have gotten Morgan Freeman to do this, it would have been so nice. (I heard he is about to turn 134 next month so happy birthday!)
