Limited Run Games has been approved to release physical Nintendo Switch games

This is sort of off-topic. But as a collector, i'm very curious if the Xbox One will ever be a system people like to collect for.

They don't allow smaller print releases, so the platform rarely gets physical releases of the type of games people normally like to collect... Limited Run aren't allowed to publish on the platform, because of the print numbers.

You also basically have no physical Japanese releases outside of Namco, Capcom, Koei.

I own all 3 systems, but I find the Switch and PS4 are fun to buy games for... stuff like Cat Quest, or Cave Story.

But I only buy the few exclusives that hit the XB1 and basically nothing else.

I kinda get what your saying. I collect for different systems and the kind of stuff that draws me are: Nintendo games, Japanese games, RPGs (especially JRPGs), arcadey games, weird/cool/obscure games. You see that kinda stuff a lot more often on Nintendo/Sony platforms than you do on Xbox.

The limited space on the Switch, whether internally or in what microSD - a practical max of 256GB which isn't cheap - does make the appeal of physical copies of games all the stronger.

So yeah, good to see.

If that's the arguemrnt, I'd say Vita is way, way above Switch, whose storage problems are easily fixed with a minimal amount of money (unlike Vita). I don't think any platform LRG does will have more direct value to the system base than their Vita efforts. (To be clear, I'm not talking in any way about size of customer base.)

Nice to see LRG finally getting to do Switch, but I'm 100% digital on it, so it won't be of any benefit to me personally.

It seems I'm one of the only people who doesn't like this idea. I'd like to collect every Switch game but this makes it hard to do on a small budget. I can deal with occasional limited stuff like Retro city Rampage but this is too much IMO.

Well, the general point holds true for both consoles in this instance - the relatively limited storage space ultimately make physical games appealing as a means of bypassing those constraints.

I will probably buy some, damn this will get expensive. For games you play through once, carts are perfect, as with no installs you just pop the cart back in the case and it is instantly archived.

It seems weird to me to get physical versions of digital releases on PS4 since it has to install every game to play anyway, so it basically becomes a digital game anyway, just using the disc as a key. Might as well be a box for the shelf with a download code. Same with some I have on on PS3, Okami HD Japanese release needs a full install to just become the PSN version anyway, my disc is just an 'archived official storage' of the digital game really.

Unlike PS4Bone, you don't have to install Switch games, so the space will only be for digital games. I doubt any normal person has 250GB of digital Switch games anytime soon.

And memory prices will continue to fall, the worst possible scenario right now would be having to change SD cards if you have a billion games, and later getting a bigger one.

over the last few months, ive been trying to get some indies on xbox. like its rarer to me for something to get physical on xbox than ps4 and in most cases i own the games digitally anyway. like for stardew valley i got it on both ps4 and xbox. im not buying abzu on ps4 physical. will get that on xbox.

i find physical stuff more fun to collect for portables so my switch physical collection is up to 22 already.

I suppose most of the games that they've already previously published for other platforms would be most likely to get the Switch treatment at some point.

I mean, Wonder Boy is a gimmie, but there would also be Oxenfree, Mutant Mudds, Rive, and Oceanhorn.

Has Curve Digital announced any Switch ports yet? They backed the WiiU fer crying out loud and have a sizable chunk of their PS4 library available through Limited Run.

If I were to guess what games will eventually become Switch carts, I'd start with these.

I find this really interesting, as I've been debating if I should get games physical or digital. I LOVE physical, but at the same time, looking back at my 20 years of games, the 200 or so physical games I have hold hardly ANY value. Even if I had carts of say NES or SNES games, I would have to have the really niche ones to have any sort of 'value' on the market. Most of the Xbox stuff I own is worth literally $0. The PS stuff barely a little more because there are so many copies around.

As technology and games get better and more plentiful, and as older hardware dies out and older games look worse and worse, I wonder if people will pay over RRP for older retro stuff. I get the feeling, its too much hassle for most people and large companies like Nintendo will just put out a SNES classic or remastered stuff and most people will just buy that.

Thus I find myself leaning towards buying games after release discounted, rather than buying a day 1 physical copy at full price, which I will lose a large amount of money on.

Well just my thoughts on physical stuff these days. Don't want to dampen the LRG mood in here. It's cool they're doing physical stuff, I haven't really bought anything from them since international shipping is really expensive, but there were definitely some stuff there I liked.

Why don't they increase their print runs just a little bit if they are always sold out immediately?

This. I think they should start off with pre orders on some of their stuff. I can already see their online store croak and fail the day they launch their first Switch game. Not to mention the backlash they will get online when it happens.

I usually get what Vita games I want when they release them, but some of them I've missed out on even though I was able to add it to the cart, yet when I go to pay/checkout the game is already sold out already.
