Linkedin Stalking: Mirada Studios worked on a Fallout 4 cinematic trailer

And Gooner, watching that trailer gave me goosebumps. Amazing.

Bethesda spoilled me. It is very hard for me to take most AAA game trailers seriously these days because so few of them are as honest as Bethesda. This is why I am willing to tolerate all the game breaking bugs; I take the good with the bad.

So many salty people in here lmao.

Listen, if you don't like a game, or a company, it doesn't equal to game XYZ being bad. YOU find it bad and that's okay, everyone has different opinions, but I'm sorry to tell you guys, but...in the case of Fallout 3, Oblivion, Skyrim and especially Morrowind, you guys are in the minority.

If those games would be so bad like everyone tries to make them here then noone would buy them, yet both franchises sell exceedingly well. Skyrim alone sold over 20 Mil. copies. The Fallout franchise was nothing before Bethesda took over. Fallout is only that well known around the world and gamers because THEY made the ip become successful, before it wasn't and without BGS it would have never been.

In The Elder Scroll's case I don't even have to say anything. Point already proven.

Let's keep the Natrium to healthy levels here.

Anyways, people have a right to not like a certain franchise's direction.

i dont get the hate for Bethesda in this thread, i truly cannot see Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3 as bad games ... and i speak as a old school fallout fan. When Bethesda bought the franchise i saw the born of a great new game, as i see the born of Wasteland as the "Classic Fallout" that i missed so much, so its a win-win scenario IMO.

People also buy CoD every year, does not mean they're good games though. Popular =/= Good.

Bethesda games are dumbed down "wanna-be" RPGs that are shallow as a damn puddle. :p

And here I am, super hyped about Fallout 4. Dunno what it is about Bethesda games, I know they're not good but I still enjoy them.

They're not bad games, just not as good. I'd take another Obsidion Fallout over a Bethesda Fallout any day.

Well the reason why so many people buy CoD or FiFa every year is because they may be good games, for some people. CoD especially has a big e-sports scene aswell. It's just not your taste. But take a look in the Black Ops 3 thread or Most anticipated games thread for example. Even on gaf you will find MANY people that are looking forward to play BO3. I agree with you, I don't like CoD eithr for example, I find the mp compared to csgo or even Battlefield bad too, but I'd never say it's a bad game overall.

it's just for a trailer but I look forward to seeing it. doubt that is on the chopping block. ,)

Waanabe RPGs?

As an RPG specialist gamer I do have to disagree. Bethesda RPGs are not shallow, they are just the extreme opposite of the hardcore JRPG on the other end of the scale. There is a place for both types of gameplay. In JRPGs you don't control what your character become, there is a fixed path to take. This is helpful for narrative. In Bethesda RPGs there is a path, but you never have to take it at all. You can do whatever you want because you ARE the character.

As for combat? You might have not noticed, but combat had never been a strong point of RPGs. Lately there are a lot of combat games with levelling system added on top, but I can't call them RPGs. If you prefer those kind of games then that is your choice. Nothing wrong with that. But RPGs are rarely ever combat focused.

So what are Bethesda going to show at their conference if they have no gameplay? Doom and dishonored 2 can't fill up the whole thing. Hopefully this means a new engine & next gen only then.

It is entirely possible they HAVE gameplay to show, but they want a new trailer made to match it.
Todd generally play the game during interviews as a part of the promotion. For Fallout 3, the gameply actually got released BEFORE the trailer went live online. Makes a Bethesda RPG takes a long time, but that usually means they would always have one or two game areas they can tidy up and show to the press if they feel the need to. hey generally see no need to fake anything.

EDIT: at worst it could be with the Skyrim reveal at the VG awards. Where we only get the name and release date. But I doubt it as this is their own conference.

IDK about shallow. I mean they have incredibly complex open world systems and the lore is insane. They are role playing games in which I can choose to ignore everything and wander the world as kleptomaniac pickpocket hoarder or go the total opposite direction play as a mad scientist bomber. For some reason nobody else really makes the kind of games they make even though they sell so well.

Does every thread on Fallout 4 have to be about Obsidian vs. Bethesda....?

On-Topic: I am fine with a cinematic trailer. Part of the fun of a new game reveal is the speculation, and I can't imagine a cinematic trailer not giving some fun tidbits to mull over. I would love to see in-game stuff but just knowing more about the setting or story will be cool too.

Exactly. Bethesda is far from perfect, that is why we need the Mods so badly. But the fact remained that they are the only ones who scratch my itch for this particular type of game. This has been the case since Morrowind.

Eh I'd say they faked the quality of all the ps3 versions of their games pretty damn well but yeah hopefully they have some game play. ..and took notes from New Vegas.

1. Lol at the thread title change
2. Lol at the salty "waah Bethesda ruined Fallout" people
3. Can't fucking wait for the Bethesda conference.

Outside of TESO, which was made by a different team, Bethesda in recent history make their trailers using actual in-game assets. Every part of the Skyrim Trailer for example, is technically in the game. Same with Fallout3. TESO was such a departure from that tradition that I automatically realised the game must suck.

Basically, assuming Bethesda hadn't gone insane, I predict the Fallout4 trailer to be a decent representation of the PC in-game graphics at max settings. This had been the case in the past. If anything because of Mods, the real games end up BETTER than the trailers.

Like I said; shit. Bethesda buying the Fallout ip is the worst thing that has ever happened in the video game industry.

You have to be a bit realistic though: At that point Interplay was pretty much bankrupt. They were not going to do any more games, period. It was generally a bad time for CRPGs.

With inXile and Wasteland 2 you have the proper spiritual sequel to that franchise. (Well technically Fallout was a spiritual sequel to Wasteland 1, whatever) And I'm sure there is going to be a Wasteland 3 at some point.

Even though Fallout 3 and Skyrim were both not hugely interesting on their own, they provide a huge playground for mods. That's the argument to be excited about them. Really don't see what people on closed platforms like about them... Vanilla Skyrim got so old, so quick.

Given the guys CV has working at Blur previously - who make fucking great trailers that look nothing like the final games end up as - I think it's fair to say if you're watching a cinematic teaser and expecting final game visual fidelity (particularly in animations, particularly given Bethesdas usual in-game animation quality) you're just setting yourself up for another "DOWNGRADE BETRAYALTON" thread in 2 years time.

I agree. I love Bethesda's RPG's and will probably play Fallout 4 way too much, but they pale in comparison to Obsidian's RPG's. When I finished New Vegas I was like 'fuck yeah, let's do that again!', when I finished Fallout 3, Oblivion and Skyrim I held off on replaying until I found some cool mods that spice things up. A core problem with (post-Morrowind) Bethesda RPG's is that they want the player to be able to do everything in one play-through and that's just the wrong way to go about things IMO. It makes it less appealing to replay the game when you already did everything in first playthrough.

And why the hell is New Vegas not counted as a full sequel? It's a new game with new characters, a standalone story, some fleshed-out/new gameplay elements and a new setting. How the hell does that not count as a full sequel?

They brought that on themselves, though. Especially when they cancelled Fallout 3 in favor of that console shooter abomination.

I don't think they'd want to work with a company like that again.

They're not that petty.

"We would love to work on Fallout again," Urquhart said. "Hell, we would love to work in the Elder Scrolls universe. Nothing is going on at this point in time, but we talk about it all the time... I'd love to do a Fallout: New Vegas 2. I think a Fallout: New Vegas 2 would kick ass.

That's the thing though, Interplay may have been fucked but almost anyone that matters had already moved on to Troika and Obsidian at that point and had expressed interest in buying their old ip.
But along came Bethesda with their big bag of money and their will to make a fallout that wasn't going to be "your daddys fallout" and the rest is history.

Also, the whole Wasteland 2 thing... I enjoy both the original and Wasteland 2 quite a bit but it's not Fallout.
I mean, I enjoyed Bioshock as well but I still want System Shock 3.

I realize me flipping my shit over Bethesda is irrelevant and nothing I do or say is going to turn things back to the way they used to be (and in my mind should be) but I dunno.. I guess I just enjoy talking about Fallout even though I'm not fond of the way the ip is currently being handled.
The first game is absolutely iconic and they are both high up in my list of best games of all time.

Whatever, who knows, maybe they'll surprise me.

As awesome as Fallout (the second one especially) was, should it really go on forever? At some point, it's just better to have a fresh start. Both psychologically and in terms of creative freedom.
To horribly mutilate a Nolan qoute: "You either die a cult classic, or live long enough to see yourself become Skyrim."

(And I don't think of Fallout 1,2 and NV and Fallout 3 to be of the same franchise)

When Todd played Fallout 3 for the first time in the reveal for Xbox360, there was a segment when he went behind a wall to switched to a laser pistol in order to destroy a turret. However while he was doing that, a raider enemy actually attacked and destroyed the turret. That was likely unscripted as he never pointed out what happened, he just shot the raider instead. This proves Bethesda was being honest after the fact, even though most people who never play the game would not have noticed it. The game enemies can fight and kill each other, and it happened during the demonstration by accident. I like that about this type of game.

I don't think Bethesda and Obsidian are on good terms anymore

I doubt there'd be any hard feelings if Zenimax came and said we'll pay you 30 million (or whatever it costs) to make another Fallout game.

Zenimax would be happy to make a bundle of money off another Obsidian Fallout game. As a big indie studio, Obsidian would be happy to just get another project, and maybe Feargus won't negiotiate for another crappy contract.

And then we'll get another GOTG.
