Link's Awakening being remade using OoT assets (fan game)

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
Called Link's Awakening 64.

Two Legend of Zelda fans have taken on the daunting task of recreating the world of Link’s Awakening, originally for the Game Boy Color, by using the engine from Ocarina of Time. Titled Link’s Awakening 64, the recreation features a storyline based on the original game and the manga series, as well as some original content.

Link. Video inside.

Looks good. Wonder if it will actually get released. AMR2 was so good that I have hope
that it will get taken down at release
. The Link model they have is very nice - it looks just like LttP/LA Link should, and I'm glad they didn't go the short route and use blonde Link from OoT. The fields look a bit barren - just like a real N64 game, lol.

I am starting to be convinced aspiring devs are just using Nintendo's legal department as a cheap way to get some twitter followers.

I don't understand why you would do this with a Nintendo game when the outcome is written in stone. If you are doing it for yourself, then no need to tell the world about it.

Why not make something NEW instead of something almost doomed to be taken down??? You can tribute to a series with a reference in your own IP.

The atmosphere that Link's Awakening brings is more vibrant and fairy-tale-like from the looks of this. Seems interesting
enough to warrant the attention of Nintendo's Legal Department.

I never understand why people announce these while they are still in progress.

Companies have a legal obligation (copyrights / Trademarks, can't remember which of the two specifically) to shut these down to protect their IP. Also, using actual Nintendo assets is a huge no, and will leave you with no legal ground to stand on.

that.....doesn't look very good

Link's Awakening's graphics are timeless, OoT's graphics are not. plus dat top down goodness will get lost in translation.

This looks...bad

This looks like 90% of fan remake games. It probably won't even get half way close to completion before they stop working on it.

Desire to fuck around with the tech without needing to be super creative. They're very different skill-sets.

Haven't we learned anything from AM2R

DON'T PUBLICIZE YOUR NINTENDO FAN REMAKE UNTIL IT IS DONE DONE DONE

What are you talking about, AM2R was public for like 7 years and wasn't taken down until after it was available to download for a while.

I remember messing around with Ocarina of Time modding a few years ago. Is it actually possible to make a total conversion that's playable start to finish?

People always released demo videos and test rooms, but I don't think I ever saw a single completed project.

Ah yes, remember when Sega lost the rights to sonic?

Boy I bet they had egg on their face.

(No, but seriously, why do people keep saying this?)

Not to mention this doesn't look nearly as good as OoT.

Not meaning to criticize it too much since it's just a fan made thing.

I feel like whenever this happens, its when the work is basically just ending because they either gave up or lost the free time, so they just want to let people know what they were working on knowing nintendo is just going to shut it down

First: Qft. 2D Zelda > 3D Zelda. (just like Mario, Metroid or Donkey Kong)

And this doesn't even look God compared to OoT.

Adding in new dungeons and writing a "darker" storyline leave me pretty apprehensive over this. Remaking the game is already a pretty major undertaking before adding this stuff on top

black and green, you mean.

also, why no condom reference in that screen.
Because they're not German I guess ;)

I don't even know how LA is supposed to work in 3D. Like with the feather and stuff.

Also I guess it's technically correct, but this made my eye twitch:

This seems like it would be a huge undertaking. If it ever does come around I'd definitely give it a shot.

The Siliconera mentions this is running on the OoT engine. I take it the project is a ROM hack then? Something one could, potentially, play on an actual 64?

Yeah I really don't understand why they would do this, so early.
RIP Link's Awakening 64

If it ever comes out, I really hope it controls better than OoT.

Wish they were using the A Link to the Past engine instead. I get the nostalgia for OoT, but N64 graphics don't look particularly good.

Seeing how rough all n64 rom hacks look makes me really appreciate the talent those artists had to make games like SM64 and OoT look "good."
