Little Witch Academia game announced (PS4)

Eh, I don't see a western release being that much of a stretch. A western release with a PC version is more unlikely. This seems like something that'll get treated like JoJo does over here. It'll come over with no dub and maybe even be digital only.

Netflix is doing a English dub of the anime series, its popularity in the west is reason enough to warrant a fully voiced game dub, in my opinion.

In Japan, it looks rather too demanding for Vita. And Unity is one more reason for it to not happen. Maybe Switch, but even then, maybe Bamco ain't so sure about this.

As for a western release, I don't see that happening, but if it did, maybe they'd add an SKU or two.

I have a sneaking suspicion most of the gameplay is going to be on a 2D plane, so I'm not sure it would really be out of reach for the handhelds. Maybe the budget is too low to afford for optimization on other platforms lol.

I think there's a good possibility for a western release, given this is a PS4 game based on a Netflix title and that might draw some more eyes to it. Probably will be a lower key launch, though, so I'd expect digital-only. Maybe they shove out a PC-port, since it's Unity, if they feel a little more optimistic.

I hope we get this in the west. I'm a bit hesitant to believe we will, but the only thing making me think we wouldn't is the fact the Ippo game didn't come over. Maybe since it's been a few years it might happen. We got stuff like Saint Seiya, so it might be possible. This also has more of a western presence than Ippo so eh, maybe.

Even though Ippo was never popular in the west, we actually used to get a lot of the PS2/Wii games in English under the Victorious Boxers name. I guess Bandai Namco didn't feel the PS3 game was good enough to breakthrough Ippo's lack of popularity.

I'm just guessing based off it being Namco Bandai. So I think it'd be up to them if it gets one. Though the Netflix bit does help the case somewhat for an English Dub. Would be interesting if they took enough interest to work with the same actors they have there.

I wouldn't expect an English dub. The only anime games Bandai Namco dubs anymore are Dragon Ball and Naruto ones after Digimon was a one and done. No Sword Art Online, no One Piece.

2D plane isn't the problem here. The Vita has a really low clocked CPU, with a low IPC. Hence why some unity games have troubles with it. And I can think Switch MAY have troubles too, especially if it's a low budget game.

Kind of got that vibe as well. The witch at 0:11 instantly reminded me of MHA's frog girl.

First LWA OVA was released one year before Boku no Hero Academia started to be pulished on Jump.

This game is pretty random and so is the fact it's announced as a PS4 exclusive, it might be released worldwide later on considering the Netflix support.

As for quality ehhh don't expect much out of it, this is your typical Bamco low budget adaptation but it does look quite good on screenshots.

There is a suspicious lack of heroes in this Academia series...it's time will come, I'm sure of it.

Happy for the people who like this series though.

Looks very unique, hopefully it gets localized so we can play it out here in NA, any release date set for this?

Eh, Vita slowing down on releases seems about right so this being a ps4 exclusive isnt all that strange.

Of all the anime to get a game.... Certainly didn't expect it to be this. Well, chances are I'll like it more than its rather boring anime counterpart, so I'll keep this in mind lol

I mean I was thinking about Vita first but also Switch and/or PC (these two might come for western release, maybe), this is the kind of game that will end in the 10k range and it's known that in Japan the anime audience is still strong enough on Vita to have sales better/on par with PS4 SKU even when you give them a crappy downport

Here's a review of the anime for anyone interested: https://youtu.be/7bH0oFypZ8Y

It's on Netflix in the US, not sure about other countries though.

Really hoping this will turn out well. I love Little Witch Academia, and could always go for some more while Netflix takes it's sweet time putting the show on it's site.

I'm surprised it's PS4-only given it's running on Unity.

Given Bandai Namco's budgets for properties with smaller audiences, I'm not convinced this will be great. One of the screenshots has a character clipping through a chair lol:

Holy shit those graphics are amazing.

Please god, I need this to be localized so bad.

Graphics look great! It really captures the looks of the show fantastically!

artstyle seems great, true to the anime
gameplay though... hopefully it's not too slow paced but it seems like it's going to be like a lane defence thing rather than a beat em up
strange that this is ps4 only though
