LittleBigPlanet Official Thread: Live in your world, play in ours.

I really, really like the water in LBP. It adds a whole other dimension to the game; just as big as the paint guns, IMHO.

Seems to have been in beta forever, but the wait is definitely worth it.

A Bark In The Dark

Sackboy was taking his dog for a walk but looks like he should have a bought a dog chain because all of a sudden the dog ran away. This is how his new adventure started. Sackboy followed the dog's tracks and ended up in a cave... A very special cave.

This level is intended and strongly recommended to be played in single player mode. It's also harder than what the general LBPer expects. It's nothing extreme for those difficulty specialists out there either mind you. I'd say the level is hard because that's what I expect most people to think of it. Or should we say it's for "experienced LBPers"?

Points of interests:

- A truly multi-path level.
- A sidekick for sackboy!
- Multiple secrets to find.

Hints:

While your sidekick will talk to you along the way and suggesting you to do stuff, if you're stuck you probably want to grab some brownish green fabric around to proceed. Also, this is not a level where you rush in. It's definetely that level made for exploration and taking your time. Anyhow, you'll notice soon enough that rushing through the level here doesn't work. lol

Haven't had the chance to try it yet, but from the screens it's looking really good!

I've been trying to use the "paint" tool in LBP PSP, and I'm finding it extremely useless and / or limited. I can't cut away or paint like I would otherwise do in the PS3 version.

Am I missing something? You can't cut away using complex shapes anymore.

I was at my local Kmart and I found LBP PSP for $10. I thought I would share here in the official thread and all. In case anyone is skeptical (understandable), this isn't YMMV.

I apologize for the blurriness but there it is, so why miss out on a fun game gone portable now?

I already own the DD version, that's a great deal though. Load times are a little longer on UMD though, I hear. May pick it up just in case as a gift to whomever I know has a PSP.

And you're sure this isn't a YMMV?

What is the best way to play the GOTY levels? I want to play them with a friend, Im hoping someone has them hearted so I could just search through them?

I finished the psp game and mixed feelings.

+They are amazing for getting the PS3 engine running on PSP. It looks almost identical and it's like I'm playing the PS3 game on the go. Control improvements are not that noticeable (I never had a problem with the jumping in the PS3 game so whatever) but it's still nice they added more traction on landing and dropped a plane.

+Some stages are really good and creative and fun. The dragon stuff, the monkey stuff, the snow stages, the king kong stage.

-Game is really really short. Feels a little empty compared to the PS3 game. Since the last world is a joke, there are 6 worlds with 3 stages each for 18 stages (I think Tinsel town had 4) so 19.

-The stages don't feel as big and interesting as the PS3 ones. Feels like there was definitely some limiting factor with how crazy they could get.

-There seemed to be far less platforming sections. Possibly because they just couldn't have as much per level as the PS3 version.

-Obviously not many enemies.

-THERE IS NO FINAL BOSS WTF? This has to be the most unsastisfying finish to any game I've played all year. The entire last world is super short simple stages and then the final stage is....you standing still while the credits play? Ummm...what? I didn't feel any sense of accomplishment beating the game like I did when I finally killed the evil boss in the PS3 one and saved the day.

So yeah, at the end of the day I liked that they got the game to feel like the PS3 one on a much lower powered portable system and some of the stages are great, but overall the PS3 story mode felt like an amazing adventure that took me places and blew my mind. The psp story mode felt like....an expansion pack of "here's a handful of cool levels, go play". LBP PS3 is one of my favorite games of all time. I loved the story mode to death. LBP PSP...I'm not really sure if I got my $37 worth. If it was longer, sure but it felt so short I almost feel like I paid for the engine and not the game. I'm going to dive into the user levels now and hopefully the selection will be decent and make up for the short story mode. I think overall I'd give it just barely an 8/10. I also think I enjoyed the PS3 story mode more because I did it coop online with friends.

Ranger X: Played A bark in the dark yesterday, really nice environment design and soundtrack placement. I think I must have taken one of the harder paths though...took me awhile to get the hang of those sponge rock launchers, but will replay to see the other paths.

Actually has that sort of Metroid exploration feel to it.

Would people listing the levels you should play make your life easier? Some of you are prety golden spoon fed. I can play awesome levels super easily. It's about knowing how to handle the game and where to look.

First off:

Try playing those 500+ great levels: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=73

Tell me about them in 2013 when you'll be done.

Otherwise, if you're EXTREMELY lazy, learn to use hearted lists and favorite creators lists. Start by mine (RangerZero) look also for Jaeyden. He a level hoarder just as much as me.

.

I guess I want an LBP community within LBP instead of searching for what people like on here or anywhere else. If I were going to some kind of convention, I'd like to see what everyone has to offer while I'm there instead of relying on what to look for while at a computer and watching a youtube clip of the events. I didn't think it was much to ask for. Their early ideas for it seemed better than the dull final product. Just my 2 cents.

Here's an example of my issue: I've been into the ghostbusters recently and with my GB outfit I wanted to play a GB themed level. So I search for "Ghostbusters" and the planet fills up with Ghostbusters themed levels. So far so good... until I really start looking I see is a small icon of the levels, a small amount of hearts and plays for most of them and shitty descriptions. Then pressing R1 for a new page, I'm shown another helping of levels. What's the criteria for page one? I have no idea. It certainly wasn't most hearts or plays. Is it oldest? I have no idea. Beyond heart/play ratio, how do I know the good levels from the bad? Since most of these levels are left behind in published hell, no one plays them thus not giving me or anyone else a good indication of it's quality.

But instead, everyone flocks to online lists of super detailed levels, anything created without the super jazz is ignored. No thanks.

Rumours say that the fearsome Davy Jones and his mighty Kraken have come to LittleBigPlanet to wreak havoc and claim some sack folk to serve as Davy’s Crew. Once again, it’s going to fall to Sackboy to locate the only ship on LittleBigPlanet that has any chance of sending him back to the bottom of the sea.

Head deep into the Caribbean to battle The East India Trading Company and Pirates alike, find the legendary ship and take on the Kraken. This new kit features a set of six swashbuckling levels, each containing a treasure trove of stickers, decorations, materials, music objects and brand new trophies.

Boooo! You have to buy the PotC kit to be able to use water in your own levels :/ I figured as much, but it still sucks ass.

Why so pissed? This was the case with the MGS4 DLC as well.

Finally, good price as well. Just dodged the full year since the MGS pack by 2 days though :lol Hope theyve got their shit together for 2010.

Wont be able to play it as I'm spending Christmas with family away from my PS3 until January. Looks great though. Any word on the Sonic costumes? Are they this week?

Not so much pissed as annoyed, :p. I bought the MGS4 pack specifically for the Paintinator, and although I didn't really use it, it annoyed me that they were selling a gameplay feature then as well. I'll still probably buy this pack, so it's not a huge deal. I'm a bitch for this kind of stuff. :lol

So water is DLC?

The costumes are really cute.

Just updated my game last night in preperation for this. 13 updates and various DLC, actually didn't take that long to get again.

The new pack looks great but £9.60 for all the costumes and the level pack? Is that right? Hmm might skip the costumes if that's the case. Should have been an all in one pack for cheaper.

Its similar pricing as the MGS4 pack.

Hmmm I couldn't remember, but at the same time nearly a tenner is a lot of money regardless. Or I might just buy Sack Sparrow... well see how cheap I'm feeling come 22nd. :lol

You need to find more items. When you do a bunch of mini-game-esque levels appear (they appear as a one way detour on the map). With them included there is nearly double the amount you're talking about.

Sack Johnny Depp with Eyeliner. <3 <3 <3

For $5? I guess I'm in. Esp. if Dino Crisis isn't out before this last update of the year.

OMG FOUR NEW MUSIC TRACKS?! Combined with all the other stuff...

This is the kinda stuff a pack should have.

EDIT: Yup this is about the same as the MGS pack. Glad to finally (possibly) have another boss battle track to work with.

I found the keys. I don't count mini-game levels as levels of the same quality of story levels.

Thats all I need. The "Assacksin" costume has me set for awhile. Probably can use the loincloth to make some Adventure Island Sackboy.

The beach/jungle background looks nice too.

Looks good, looking forward to it.

I still wish we had gotten "water in a can" not just "water to fill the level" mechanic. That would have opened up so many avenues as well.

Still this should be fun and allow for the recreation of some of my favorite donkey kong country levels, the swimming ones.

It will probably be of much higher quality, just my opinion. The MGS level pack was ok, but not super great or anything.

Day one!!! Can't wait for this. I'm all ready to go with the software as p to date a possible, so no long downloads before I can start, other than this pack :D

Free. Online Create and Water will be free.

.

You lied to me!! ;)

By the way, im not member of the LBP community but why do people ask for DLC levels? When the game has like 1 million free levels.

Because for the most part it goes:

5-10% of level creators > MM >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dogshit >>>> 90-95% of level creators.

MGS pack was QUALITY. Right down the camera angles (I didn't like the "LOL TROPHY LEVELS ARE BAD MMM'KAY" mention MM threw in, meanwhile).
