Locking the bathroom door everytime you use it.

When at home, since I live alone, I leave it open. Mostly for the cats to be able to walk in and out as they please.

When having visitors, being at someone elses place or at a public bathroom... of course. Anything else is kind of gross.

Yes unless I'm 100% sure no one else is in the place.

Privacy is important to some people, to others not - I know people who are happy gurning for an audience as their hips hug the bowl, I am not one of those people.

If I'm taking a shit the door always gets locked. If I'm just taking a piss I don't even bother to close the door though.

Always lock. My family DOES knock, but unfortunately they only seem to knock while simultaneously opening the door, which defeats the purpose. Even when I'm home alone I tend to close and lock, you never know who's going to barge in while you're midstream.

My wife likes to just wander on in when I'm taking a dump.

There are only a couple of circumstances where I lock the bathroom door when using it.

1. I am using a restroom that is not my own.
2. There are guests in the house.
3. I am taking a shower. Don't know why or when I started doing this one, but now I do it without even realizing it.

When it's just me and the family at home though, I don't lock it. For some weird reason, we're real sticklers about knocking before entering the restroom, so I never have to worry about them barging in. Sometimes I'll knock before entering the restroom even though there's no one in the house.

I think the worst thing Barthroom wise is people who close the door when no ones in there. Like is someone using it? Your fucking busting etc. And then its like "lol no ones in there".

A lot of people have bathrooms warmer than other rooms, and want to keep it warm by closing the door.

Going to a bathroom without a lock is like Russian roulette ...

I also know people who have a window in their bathroom door. It's not like you easily pass it, since it's at the end of a hallway, but if you do walk over you're basically staring down on someone taking a crap.

They didn't even cover up the window with foil or anything.

I don't lock it because normal people knock before entering a bathroom.

No.

The door is open unless someone is using it.

Pretty easy "this is occupied" sign.

Both of these.

I can understand growing up in a situation where locking the door becomes normal or even necessary but it was never an issue for me so it's always weird when my roommate locks the door each and every time he uses the bathroom. It's not weird for him obviously but it's just not something I'm used to.

I live on my own, so I don't even close the door, lol.

The only time I will lock the door is if it is at a public venue with a lock. But if it's at a house party or something I don't lock, most people know to knock before entering or assume that since the door is closed that there is someone in there

Yeah and honestly I can't remember the last time (if at all) that someone walked in on me while I was actually using the bathroom with the door closed.

I basically never lock it, I don't care if my gf needs to grab something while I'm in the shower and if there's no shower noise if she wants to come in to see me poop I would be confused but not care.

Only if it's one of those single public restrooms.

At my own place I leave the door wide open. Anywhere else closed but not locked - obviously if the door is closed and light is visible through the crack at the bottom there's someone in there. If not, and someone decides to open it, enjoy the stench!

I always knock on the door just to be sure.

I was at some house party one night and the bathroom had 2 doors. One from a hallway and one from a bedroom. I locked the hallway one and didn't think about the bedroom one. As I was pissing, someone from the room opened the door and a room full of people saw me pissing. It was slightly awkward.

That reminds me of a story where we were at some fancy outdoor pool party at some CEO's house. You could see a stream of people using the upstairs bathroom because no one thought to pull the shades down.

As for me, yes, I always lock the doors when I'm taking a dump. My wife/daughters usually leave the door open. I guess I'm the squeamish one.

What? No, I never lock the bathroom door. It's their fault if they open the door when I'm in there. I'm going to laugh at them when they see me shitting.
