Weezer's Only in Dreams is the first thing I thought of. I can't imagine how many times I've listened to that song. Weird to think that the blue album was back in 94.

Iirc one of his music idols died in a plane crash and that's what he means by "the day the music died".

Well played. You win. Buddy Holly, Big Bopper, etc. Add 'Speculawyer' as a friend on Steam.

You have a steam account Count? Add me friend and you can get a consolation prize.

Unless there is some weird forum stuff going on here, my post is before SexyNerd's.

Not that it really matters, as I was gonna bequeath the game to the runner-up.

Jens Johannson - Straffpolska frĂĄn Sudan

I can't find a link to listen to it online. It's on the Japanese release of his Fission album and features Shawn Lane on guitar (the reason I absolutely love this track). There's loads of 5+ minute songs I really like, but this one is 9:32 so it's one of the longer ones.

I love your music taste, Jens Johannson is the man who completely made me interested in keyboard again, dropped it a couple of years ago and after listening to Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica. I completely love his style so much.

Stratovarius - Elysium (18:07)

Dream Theater - Breaking All Illusions (12:27)

Cain's Offering - Morpheus in a Masquerade
(If you have to listen to one song, I'd recommend this)

Dream Theater - The Count of Tuscany (19:17)

Maynard Ferguson - Misra Dhenuka (~15 mins)

X Japan - Art of Life (~30 mins)

And, let's see if you can sit through this doozy of a song! Clocking in at 25 minutes, scientists have created the Most Unwanted Song, featuring operatic sopranos rapping about cowboys, little kids singing about Wal-Mart, and a megaphone lady insulting you, and they determined that less than 200 people in the world could like this song. Turns out I'm one of them! Can you? See if you are able to sit through the entire thing!

The Most Unwanted Song

(Here's an article about the song)

1 Mile North - Evil Architecture (best instrumental ever, posting this on GAF for like the 5th time lol)

This Will Destroy You - Powdered Hand (second best instrumental ever)

Godspeed You Black Emperor! - Motherfucker=Redeemer part 2 (third best instrumental ever)

Slint - Washer (hauntingly awesome, from when indie rock still had some balls)

Pygmy Lush - Tumor (i've fallen asleep to this about 9000 times, incredible mellow stuff)

Cave In - Sing My Loves (AMAZING track, kicks my ass so hard, maybe the best song they've ever made)

Neil Young - Natural Beauty (almost gets me choked up, gorgeous song)

Bob Dylan - Ain't Talkin (love the dark vibe and lyrics of the song, could only find a live version though)

Mobb Deep - There I Go Again/So Long (two tracks really, but i like to think they belong together. dark gritty hiphop, and a perfect album closer. i pump this at 3am while contemplating my shitty future.)

and a bonus:

John Tavener - Funeral Canticle (i have NO idea why i like this so much, not my type of music at all... but i just love it. probably because it was used in The Tree of Life so brilliantly. from 2:20 onwards it just gives me the chills constantly...)

2112 is probably one of my most favorite rush songs ever. Surprised it took a bit until Some one mentioned it. Gotta love stairway to heaven, achilles last stand, and bohemian rhapsody too :D

The entirety of Godspeed You! Black Emperor's Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven ('Sleep' is my favorite).

Such a great pick. I'd go with that, Stars of the Lid's Even if You're Never Awake (or just about anything SotL), or Brian Eno's hour-long Thursday Afternoon.

But if you're looking for something with singing, a beat, and pop song structure, my vote's for Dire Straits' Telegraph Road. For whatever reason, I've hardly ever listened to them, but that song is amazing: so perfectly paced and structured. It's over 14 minutes, and yet it somehow feels much shorter. I can think it's about two minutes in, but when I look, I see it's already been going on for almost seven.
