Long-Running Franchises That Are Playable on One Console

And...

Rezerobox.jpg

Was thinking the same thing.

In terms of long-running franchises, I suppose all the legit entries in the Mario series (SMB, 2, 3, World, 64, Sunshine, Galaxy and Galaxy 2) can be played on the Wii.

Via MGS 3 HD, yep.

I want to say Tomb Raider on PS3 but not sure if IV or V made it to the PSN Store.
It doesn't even matter as the PS3 (all PS3s) can still play PSX discs.

Everyone saying MGS on PS3, how are you guys playing Portable Ops on the PS3?
...or Metal Gear Ghost Babel and Twin Snakes for that matter.

With level design more complicated than just about any other mainstream 2d platformer!

Yep, a game designed for single player first and foremost just like any other Mario side-scroller, yet somehow it's a party game.

A Mario game more difficult in the latter stages than Super Mario World (barring the Special Zone) and arguably Super Mario Bros. 3, but somehow it's a party game.

You guys can delude yourselves all you want. Nobody's going to give a shit about the New series in five years. Nintendo won't either.

...or Metal Gear Ghost Babel and Twin Snakes for that matter.

One's a non-canon alternate story and the other is just an enhanced port.

If Ghost Babel counts for MGS, then the CD-I games count for Zelda.

Portable Ops is part of the canon story.

Devil May Cry. All playable on PS3/360 (Although people may take issue with the ports.)

"Long" series on that one is debatable.

If you have a backwards compatible PS3 you can play every single Tekken game released along with Tomb Raider.
same goes for a bunch of other stuff.

On a PS3 Slim the only Tomb Raider you can't play is Angel of Darkness.

TR: The Last Revelation and TR: Chronicles are both available on the EU PS3 store. So if you have a PS3 with PS2 BC to allow for playing Angel of Darkness, you can play all the mainline TR games on PS3.

Doesn't matter since the PS1 discs will still play on any PS3.

Has a Platform been announced for Ace Attorney 5? Its long running, been running since 2001...Ace Attorney 1-4 and the spin-off Investigation games can all be played on DS family. Spin-off with Prof. Layton if you add in 3DS too. Hmm, I'm noticing Capcom franchises cropping up a fair amount.

Mega Man & Bass isn't on any compilation AFAIK. I think the only port that game ever got was on GBA.
Hmm, forgot that one for lack of number. Erm...a softmodded Wii might be able to boot Datel's version of the Game Boy Player (it uses shoddy software emulation and plugged into Gamecube memory card slot)...

Also Rockman and Forte could eventually hit the Wii VC in theory...then again I don't think Japan got the Megaman anniversary disc release...so softmod needed again.

Sorry that those veer a bit into "if you emulate them all..."

...people aren't going to give a shit about games which sell over 20 million copies world wide.

Ok then.

And flash-in-the-pan summer blockbuster movies top the ticket sales charts every year.

I don't want to argue about this shit man. We just differ on the series is all.

The complete MGS franchise only on PlayStation.

EDIT- nvm forgot about Ghost Babel and Portable Ops. Acid games too I guess.

Hmm the numbered Suikoden games come to mind

Provided you have a backwards PS3 and all the games

Sui 1, 2- PS1

Sui 3,4,5 - PS2

Although mileage may vary on having a copy of 2 and finding 4 fun to play.

So basically, all of the Suikoden games will play on a PS2.

That's true, it's announced, but yeah, I forgot it existed.

I don't even know if the PS2 FFXI servers are still on actually, that might not be possible either.

FFXI doesn't have any PS2-specific servers. All servers are region and platform-agnostic. You can still play FFXI on BC PS3s.

Im not sure what the point of this thread is?
Seems to be a glorified backwards compatibility and/or remake thread.

That being said this V is what i was going to post.
Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST, Reach, 4 on Xbox 360.

Obviously you don't want to argue, but those sales were over 3 years. If it were flash-in-the-pan wouldn't it have fizzled out by then?

...just surprised that the PC apologists haven't piped up yet.

Elder Scrolls as one example...
Elder Scrolls is the tip of the damn ice berg when you're pulling PCs in.

GC-compatible Wiis come awfully close for Nintendo, and I believe DO cover all console Zeldas that weren't streamed over satellite.

Call of Duty series on 360:

Call of Duty
Call of Duty 2
Call of Duty 3
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Call of Duty 5: World at War
Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2
Call of Duty 7: Black Ops
Call of Duty 8: Modern Warfare 3
Call of Duty 9: Black Ops 2

They need to call the next CoD 'Call of Duty X'.

It's funny, nine seems an unthinkable amount, I guess not using numbers really does help.

I've been saying that for a while. Next year will also be the 10th anniversary of the franchise and probably the first next gen entry. It has a potential to be pretty major for the franchise.

Also, the only COD game that isn't current gen is the original.

If you have premiere like i do PS3, then all playstation games are playable from start to franchize finish...

Sorry for bumping this, but I was about to start a thread to argue what the best portable Metal Gear game was when I realized nearly every game is playable on a Vita. Assuming that the Portable Ops and Ac!d games are Vita compatible, the only MG games that aren't available on it are MGS4, Ghost Babel, and Snake's Revenge.
