Longest and shortest time between sequels within a game series?

There was a nearly 4 year gap between Suikoden III and IV, but just over a year between IV and V. And that's not even considering Suikoden Tactics.

The Longest:
The Legend of Kage (arcade) 1985
The Legend of Kage 2 (DS) 2008
-----> 23 YEARS

The Shortest:
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 (Wii) March 13, 2007
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 (Wii) August 28, 2007
-----> ABOUT 5 MONTHS

Not the longest, but some pretty long ones:

Super Metroid (March '94) to Metroid Prime and Fusion (November '02) - 8 years
Banjo-Tooie (November '00) to Nuts 'n' Bolts (November '08) - 8 years
A Boy and his Blob ('90) to A Boy and his Blob Wii (TBA) - 19+ years

Man, I must be psychic, because I saw this post from you, word for word, when I read the thread title.

.Hack in Japan

.hack//Infection , June 20, 2002
.hack//Mutation , September 9, 2002
.hack//Outbreak , December 12, 2002
.hack//Quarantine , April 10, 2003

There were longer spans mentioned yet, but 11 years went by between Yoshis Island (1995) and Yoshis Island DS (2006).

Sonic the Hedgehog 3

Released in US: February 2, 1994
Released in EU: February 24, 1994
Released in JP: May 27, 1994

Sonic & Knuckles

Released in US: October 18, 1994
Released in EU: October 18, 1994
Released in JP: November 1994

So you could say May 27th - Oct 18th which is about 6 months :P

Has anything beaten the 3 months between Wario Ware Touch and Wario Ware Twisted in NA?

02/24/05 > 05/23/05

And the wait was oh so worth it. Great game.

Completely unrelated but, :lol

Released on THE SAME DAY! That's March 19, 2003 for those keeping score.

And yes, I know that they're not technically sequels, but in another way, yes, they technically are.

The OP didn't specify that the games had to be video games. So...

Risk (Board game) 1959
Risk II (PC, Mac) 2000
------> 41 YEARS!

:lol

Ok, then I guess after that, would follow these two. Though we have to stretch it a bit by taking the soonest release date for each version

Came out December 2, 2002 in NA

Came out December 13, 2002 in Japan.

So thats 10 days between 2 main line Zelda games. Also, it makes Four Swords to first game to Feature Toon Link, not Wind Waker :lol

I don't get what problem you have with Zero Mission! :lol

On a more serious note Bionic Commando had a semi-decent sequel on the GBC, breaking an otherwise very resonable nominee for this thread.

According to Wiki...

Super Mario Bros. - September 13th, 1985 (Japan)
Super Mario Bros. 2 - June 3rd, 1986 (Japan)

Might not be the shortest ever, but for such a major release that is actually an official sequel (like, it uses a '2' in its title) it is notable.

The first 3 Layton games in Japan:

15 February, 2007 for the first one, November 29, 2007 for the 2nd, and November 27, 2008 for the third one.

Weren't the first two Brothers In Arms games only 8 months apart in the same year?

Actually it was seven months, but you were pretty close.

Yeah I don't think anything is going to surpass this

NES Bionic Commando - 1998

21 years pass

Bionic Commando PC/PS3/360 - 2009

Unless you consider the new BC to only be a sequel to ReArmed, which changed a few things from the NES one. Also it hasn't been that long since the last (unrelated) entry in the series, which was Elite Forces in 2000.

2009 - 1998 = 11

Chrono Cross to Chrono Breaker (Square Enix have no date) :(

Shortest
Fallout 3 DLC. A new one every three weeks.
Chrono Cross came out just 9 years ago in NA, its going to take quite a while to catch up to some of the things in here.

Does Spelunker HD count as a sequel? If so, once it comes out it'll be 26+ years since the original release. If not, the title should go to Legend of Kage 2, which came out 23 years after the original.
