Looks like the press isn't quite feeling "Ryse"

Maybe it´s not even only Cryteks fault. I think its hard after some years of development to create a good game around a game, which was Kinect only. Maybe they just replaced all the Kinect Moves with QTEs :lol

Yep, made me think the game was a Kinect Game, but with all the outcry about maybe Microsoft having "too many Kinect games" they switched it over to a controller based game.

Now you have a game that plays like a Kinect Game, QTE Kills that probably used to have prompts for your to wave your arm left, or right or stab at the screen, and these actions are now mapped to the controller.

May have been more enjoyable and interesting as a Kinect Game.

They probably had like 10 dudes fucking around with it while they made Crysis 2 and 3.

Yup. And it's a fucking shame. Ryse in that setting could be really novel with the right gameplay applied. But now Microsoft basically just took another title off the market to be interested about for XBO, and they need all hands on deck to prop up that burning pile of shit at the moment.

Definitely a major disappointment. I can't believe they actually thought all of that QTE combat would be compelling. I'm betting at some point all of those prompts were Kinect gestures. There's probably still a mode where they are.

I think they still are. I am guessing you can play the game as Kinect only as well with all the QTEs replaced with gestures.

I imagine they showed the other version because they didnt want Kinect anywhere near this press conference.

Don't think many in the press or otherwise expect KI to be any good. Pretty weak dev team on the game, plus it's free to play with only one character (rest are paid extras), and other malarkey like that.

What a bunch of nonsense.

1)Game is getting extremely positive feedback from gamers

2)it's not free to play

3)only 1 charecter? lol

I thought this was suppose to be not-God of War. It looked like somebody hacked 360 controller support unto a Kinect tech demo.

Read a bit about the game's development. It was a controller-based game long before Kinect support was introduced, and even then, they had several working prototypes with different control schemes. Kinect has nothing to do with there being QTEs. That is just your typical AAA developer using them for the sake of being more cinematic, whatever that means.

Because it's still a Kinect game at it's core. The most obvious part was the shield moment when the troops were defending against the arrows. You were probably suppose to shout the command to defend and feel like a real life general or some shit.

Anyone who compares this to an action game with an actual combat system should be banned.

This shit was rotten. Pure spectacle, almost zero player agency. The absolute worst possible example of "next-gen." 99% cinematic style, 1% game.

it looked like a boring god of war without the cool factor, and humans only

God of War at least makes you fight the enemies before you can finish them with a QTE. And that's only for larger enemies and bosses, and using QTE's on the former is almost always completely optional.

Something felt really off when they were demoing it. good graphics, but yeah, gameplay seemed shallow as fuck.

Initially thought it was about commanding a whole platoon of roman soldiers.

reminds of of another game with those dreaded QTEs

Shenmue-QTE.jpg

It looks so generic, it just screams like another bad attempt to dethrone god of war.

It was nothing like God of War, though. It's an over-the shoulder, stiff-as-shit, janky-animation-having QTE cinematic-fest.

The actual player controlled action looks completely amateurish.

Say what you will about GOW, but it has a developed combat system and some of the best animation in the industry.

That was another thing I instantly noticed. The animations looked utter shit.

This was like God of War in the same way that the flu is like spicy curry. There's going to be some shit involved but least there's something else in the latter that makes it worth it.

Am I the only person not shitting on this game? Surprised no one has brought up a thread on the mentioned back to back coliseum co-op mode yet. It's probably the most interesting thing I've read about the game so far.

http://m.ie.ign.com/articles/2013/06/11/e3-2013-ryse-multiplayer-kinect-details-revealed

The game has potential to be really fun. I don't get all the hate. It was already said the QTEs are optional, and I believe them. This is coming from someone who isn't buying either console at launch. My body is ready for the backlash.

Graphic looks so-so and gameplay looks boring. This game would need some great storytelling to crutch the less impressive graphics and gameplay

This game could turn out to be amazing and I haven't written it off completely, but that will never change the fact that that was a terrible demo.

Seriously, most people in this thread should do a bit of reading before making shit up:

http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/et0qnq/ryse--son-of-rome-e3-2013--combat-and-story-details--stream-

Some details there:

- QTE's are there just in the form of finishers. According to Crytek, you can unlock some 100 executions. Combat should be a lot different to what we saw in the demo.

- Crytek knew well beforehand that they will be moving to the next-generation Xbox, and they profiled the game accordingly.

- Although it was meant to be a Kinect game at some point, as shown at a previous E3, for the most part of development it was simply controller-based.

The guy said "shields!" after everyone had raised their shields.

It looked like a kinect game that got turned into something else equally uninteresting. The graphics weren't even anywhere near face-melting, given crytek's reputation.

It would actually have been more impressive if it had stayed a kinect game because the bar would have been that much lower.

It looked pretty good, but the overuse of qte definitely has me thinking "meh" the sense of scale was the best thing about the game demo.

Like everything at MS' conference, the demo felt like it took me for a giant, non-thinking "turn ur brain off" douche bag.

How are the QTEs optional?

Does that mean that you have to ignore the prompt, therefore wasting a lot of slow mo time as you are prompted to press a button and ignore the command?

Or if you are careful you can never trigger the QTE executions, which means you have to play in an unnatural way and take longer to kill enemies cause you can't execute them?

I really could care less if there is a 100000000000 different executions. Since the shit still is activated by pressing the same buttons when they flash on the screen in slow motion.

Most folks here Im sure read or listened to the details about the game. But still doesnt change the fact it looks like a scripted mess, with boring combat.

Why are people mentioning GOW . That series has way more depth (especially the later ones) then this. Not to mention that the spectical and art design is far beyond what we were shown. Of course this could all change later.

Erm...

E3 2013: Killer Instinct Is a Fun Free to Play Xbox One Launch Game

Killer Instinct is a day-one digital-only release on Xbox One, and features -- get this -- one character. Jago is free to play on launch day. Everyone else -- unspecified returning characters as well as original fighters -- will cost money. Price is to-be-determined (of course).

Because it's still a Kinect game at it's core. The most obvious part was the shield moment when the troops were defending against the arrows. You were probably suppose to shout the command to defend and feel like a real life general or some shit.

It's not. It was a very different game when it was Kinect-based. For one, it was first-person. It may well still use Kinect is some form, but that functionality has been replaced for the most part, thank goodness, with button prompts.

Come on. The demo was a QTE fest. The game demoed that way. Not the whole game.

Dennis Dyack got an alt account!

If the demo looked shittastic, why we should listen to reassurances that the rest of the game is good?

Particularly if people are reporting that the game has 100 unlockable QTE executions. That means that a lot of effort was put on QTE based combat.
