LORE: bi-weekly podcast about true life scary stories

Was enjoying Tanis but later episodes kind of rambled on and there really wasn't a sense of a cohesive narrative. And there wasn't much of the cool cosmic horror elements of the first episode.

Is the show back on track? More focused?

Yup. The parts Alex narrates are very "cosmic horror" and help enhance the atmosphere of the show.

Is it just a coincidence that the psychic with the color wheel who goes to the cabin in Black Tapes is named Tanis Braun? When they first mentioned the Tanis podcast I assumed it'd be about him.

The sexy accent woman is back. Good Black Tapes epusode. I wonder how important Alex insomnia will be during this season.

Finally started listening to Black Tapes S2.

Man, some of the dialogue is annoyingly clunky

"Do you know what happened with X ?"
"No, what happened with X?"

Instead of just, "No, I didn't. What happened?" like a normal conversation

Tanis has the same problem. I guess I'm more attuned to it since I listen to Radiolab and Reply All, which have the same kind of structure that Black Tapes uses. So the actual recorded conversations versus the fictional conversations sounds off

Yea I gave up on most of the fictional podcasts after I listened to Serial and have been listing to Hardcore History. I feel like I'd rather just listen to a fictional book on tape than badly acted weekly fictional shows, which is why I can't get into We're Alive.

Something about the style needs to be rooted in reality for me to get hooked.

I'm with you guys in regards to the stilted dialogue in some of these fictional podcasts.

They all have such awesome premises, but some of the acting and dialogue is really immersion breaking. When I listen to it, I can actually picture them sitting at a table, reading directly from a script. It feels that forced at times.

I need to try and get back into Lore. I loved it at first but really slowed down around Episode 7 or 8. I can't remember but I remember getting really bored with some of them (little gnome people ones kind of put me to sleep).

The lady interviewee in this Black Tapes was super irritating. "Repeat this phrase. Haha, isn't it fun?" I almost didn't make it through.

Those first two episodes of TBT are super disappointing given how the last season left things off...

Still kept that absolutely god-awful intro music too.

Thankfully TANIS is still holding my interest, otherwise I'm done with keeping up on TBT. Will keep an eye on this thread just in case something changes with season 2, but it's not looking great to me.

Just found this thread? Is there any podcast you guys can recommend that isn't a fictional story with really bad acting? Lore isn't anything like the others being discussed in this thread.

Nick gotta hook a brother up with the address of those cuties that drug you and want to have some fun. I'm in the area too >:D

That episode of Tanis was fucking great, maybe the best so far. They completely opened the lid on the Darkness throughout the whole show, between Karn's story, the Grackle ritual, and Alex's narration (which was the best yet).

Have we established the context of Alex's Tanis journey she narrates? I don't recall a setup, I think it just appeared and it's serving as this amazing side narration.

I got actual chills listening to this episode.

Okay, this might be a silly question, but is the Alex in Tanis supposed to be the same Alex from Black Tapes? As in the same character?

That's the story "Where's Tanis" created by that guy who was the leader of Aleister's Crowley cult. It was basically what inspired Nick to make the podcast. The beginning of the story is right there in episode 1, when he is at the PNW offices and calls Alex to narrate the piece for the listeners.

Oh wow, so it's the continuation of that. Nic said it was really boring and nonsensical so I never made the connection.

Wow, I'm re-listening to Tanis from the beginning since I want to catch more details, and they completely censored episode 3
all the Elysa Lam mentions are now beeped
. This is still one of the most creepy and fucked up episodes of the show. The atmosphere is amazing.

TWO more podcasts are coming from PNWS/MinnowBeatsWhale:

http://minnowbeatswhale.com/

A true crime story, as well as a comedy podcast. The True Crime story I can see them nailing really well, based on how atmospheric The Black Tapes and TANIS is, but a comedy podcast? That'll be interesting.

Did they really? I wonder if it's a legal thing or they just thought back on it and figured maybe it was in poor taste.

I thought it was creepy, but definitely can see how somebody might be offended by that, especially her family or friends. I saw some people not responding very well to those mentions.

It was censored very quickly after they posted it. I started listening a few months back and it was like that then... made it kind of odd to piece together.

Um.
Okay.
So... Today's episode of Black Tapes had a seriously creepy and disturbing ending. Didn't see that coming, plus now we have to wait two weeks to see what happened next

Been listening to a lot of NoSleep lately. They sometimes present stories produced by Aural Stimulation and Scary Stories for Dark Nights. This is an Aural Stimulation production featured on NoSleep:

Here's two connected stories I've really enjoyed (narration by Jeff Clement, story by MJ Pack):

Part 1: Soft White Damn

Part 2: Sure To Follow

I hope they do an adaptation of Part 3 and 4 soon. The quality on these productions is outstanding. The Black Tapes, TANIS, Limetown, NoSleep (going from Season 1 to Season 6, the leap in Voice Actors and sound design is phenomenal), Aural Stimulation, etc.

Part 3 of Danny's story is up

Finally TBT clears the Tannis Brown / Tanis confusion. Also this episode is like some Shin Megami Tensei shit. Good stuff.

i think i will try and listen to tanis in one sitting while on the plane to Japan. Also the black tapes have gotten better and better.

That Tanis epidsode hurt my brain.

I loved it.

I recently listened to the entirety of Serial assuming it was another fictional sort of podcast, and then right at the end did a quick Google and realised it's all real.

I'm losing my grip on reality right now.
