Maybe Arron is a double bluff. Kate and Jack want the people of Oceanic airline to think that the boy is Arron, but Arron is still back on the Island. Maybe Jack and Kate find out more secretes of the Island before they leave, and they are keeping up the facade for their best interests...

...or maybe it is bad writing :P

Ben apparently can easily get to any place in the world - as the Fake Passports showed - so maybe the people that need protecting are the people back on the Island.

I personally think they are all still alive and well at the time the Flashfowards take place, so maybe Ben is using them to make Saiyd do stuff.

Also Saiyd will most likely now never come back to the Island after leaving, so maybe he does not even know the whole story of what happened. Maybe he things Kate/Jack/Hurley are all still on the Island and he is the only one that got off

Edit - although the Oceanic 6 are supposed to be world famous so maybe that is not true either

No, Sayid referred to himself as a member of the Oceanic 6. He has to be aware of Kate, Jack, Hurley and the rest.

I inferred that the "friends" were those left on the island, but looking at the transcript, that is entirely vague. It could be the rest of the Oceanic 6, but I still have to assume he's being used by Ben to protect the island, and Sayid gets to protect his friends at the same time (whom Ben cares less about).
 
I am thinking too much about Lost right now... but anyway thoughts about the coffin. Seeing as all of the Oceanic 6 apparently are famous I suspect the person in the coffin at the end of season 3 is not one of them. If it was one of them there would be loads of media and fans showing up at the funeral - at the very least the place would have not been completely empty.

Ben is currently the only person we know that is off the Island who is not famous - and actually seems to be in hiding judging by the end of episode three. Also, seeing as he seems to have huge connections with the island (possibly been one of the few that can get it with accidentally happening up in), he is one of the few people that would lead Jack to want to kill himself upon finding out the news that he is dead as that means he can't "go back"

One more thing. Why has none of the Oceanic 6 talked to Penny yet. She has a huge part to play in all this. Maybe she is the one that putting together the story to keep Desmond safe?

However maybe Penny is the one that is in the coffin. Jack had loads of maps and stuff in his room at the end of Season 3, and just like Penny he seems to really want to find the Island. Maybe Penny and Jack were working together in that time frame, and finally found a way to get back (as Penny still refuses to give up on Desmond), and was killed by Matthew Abaddon's group?

I only said Penny as her and Ben are the only really import people on the show who can (Ben) and really want (Penny) to find the Island. Penny could also have a much bigger part to play with the O6, which could be shown in future Flashfowards that took place sooner after the O6 left Island. The current Flashfowards seem to be years ahead of when they left, so there is a huge gap remaining to flesh stuff out

I am just speculating though. However, I really don't think it could be

Why not? You're speculating quite a bit to make a case that it could be Penny. And it's definitely a stretch to think that Penny Widmore of all people would be the subject of a funeral in a black neighborhood of Los Angeles. I mean... seriously?!

If you think it's plausible that events will happen between now and the end of the season that put Penny in that casket, it's just as likely that events will happen to put MICHAEL (no I will not pointlessly spoiler tag a known fact about the Season 4 cast) in the casket.

Also, if Desmond dies, Lost dies to me... all episodes are just stones in the way of the fantastic episode we´ll have next week! :D

EDIT: I also think that Miles is the spy and that he revealed himself to Ben that moment...

Penny was a weird silly guess, which I will admit is very unlikely. But unless
Michael's
character gets a huge update when he appears
on the boat
I really cant see Jack caring enough to jump of a bridge after finding out he died.

Kate has apparently no desire to return to the island.
 
First shitty episode of the season. It was more like a soap opera than... Whatever the hell Lost usually is. So many stupid things happened in this episode too.. I was pretty disappointed.

Kate is always hot though so at least I had something to look at.

Also important to note that Jack was well fucked up before he saw the obit. Probably because his nephew kept throwing food in his beard.

She lacks desire as she will be violating here 10 year in-state probation if she gets caught.

Last night showed that the District Attorney was trying here best to get Kate to stay put, making sure she was held without bail, and then making sure she signed to have 10 years of probation.

As I said before the District Attorney is most likely working with Matthew Abaddon group of people to find stuff out about people still on the Island, and trying to keep the people that already left from going back.

That same group is also most likely involved in the death of the person in the coffin

Couple other points:

- The dude in the coffin is most certainly a dude. The obituary reveals that.
- The name in the obit. may be completely irrelevant. If the body is indeed Ben's, we now know that he has many different names in what I guess we can call the real world.
 
I thought the guy in the coffin was going to be Ben, but after the Sayid episode I'm guessing that it will be Locke.

Locke had no friends or relatives that gave a damn about him before the Island. Watching this season, Locke is burning bridges with everyone, so only Jack going to his funeral makes sense.
 
I've now decided that Matthew Abaddon is the guy in the coffin

It would also make sense because Kate didn't want to go see them.
 
Maybe Matthew Abaddon, Mr. Avellino (golf course guy), Elsa (girl Sayid shot) are all part of the same group along with Naomi, Daniel, Miles, Charlotte, and Frank. Ben wants them dead, and is getting Sayid to do it.

BTW an Abaddon/Sayid fight to the death could be great :D

Also this is why the other people want in on the island and its location for this purpose.

Yeah, um, great theory except it's directly contradicted by the show. If it was 30 min ahead in time then the rocket would have reached the island before it was launched by the boat, not after.

I really do still think it's Michael, through and through. I'd actually be a little sore if turned out to be an S4 introduction. If it is Michael, regardless of what state he ends up in, there's a lot of poignancy there. If it's just a part of Sayid's, to be honest, highly incongruous assassination crusade (at least as far as Lost's general tone is concerned), it'd be a little bit weak.

The distortion around the Island could be a space distortion and not time related at all, thus resulting in the effect occurring in both direction, and explain why people can talk to each other on phones (and why Charlie could talk to Penny), and also explain why it takes so long for things to get places

Yeah, agreed. And for that reason, I seriously doubt it's someone we haven't met yet.

My money's still on Michael, as well. All of the signs that were there last May are still there.

But that's why it's awesome. That's why this whole season has been kicking ass, along with the end of last year. Shit's getting real. These guys have been playing survivor for months, they're pawns and players in some massive and unknown game, and the stakes just keep climbing, and the farther down the rabbit hole these guys fall, the more power they have to shape things. The way we see characters going off the deep end is fantastic. I love the progressions we're seeing.

the dynamics, the progressions, the pairings, it's all so amazing this season. I don't think the show could be written much better right now.

Yeah, no. Maybe if the the rest of the world was moving close to the speed of light with respect to the island and that doesn't make sense on so many levels.
 
Can someone post the preview for Eggtown. I didn't watch the commerical because I didn't want it spoiled. So I wanna see what they showed now that I've watched the whole thing.

I always took it that she was so deeply conflicted about the island that she wanted a reason to be FORCED to stay put so she could avoid her guilt (of likely leaving people behind). The attorney was on the ropes and Kates lawyer was likely going to be able to work out something like community service or even just months of probation, but when Kate heard terms that would force her to stay put while also having the ability to care for Aaron she accepted those terms immediately.

She wanted a reason to be forced to stay there but she didn't want to be locked in prison. She wants to care for Aaron, but doesn't want complete freedom.

Also will SOMEONE answer me about Jack? Whats up with his feelings for both Juliet and Kate? Whats his deal?

Let me go and ask Jack..................Ok, I'm back. He says he likes both of them, but since Juliette isn't a two timing slut, he's been spending more time with her lately.
 
I think Miles might be in the coffin. I don't think kate and jack and anyone but Sayid know Ben is off the island. Nobody is going to give a shit if one of the rescuers on oceanic died, he seemed to be a loner based on his back story and he hails from Long Beak. Ben would have motivation to have Sayid or someone else to kill him (his "boss" and the black mail), while Jack would have mixed emotions for someone that found the island (could get them back?) / started all the shit that got him to his beard jack mindset in the first place.

Funny, he told me that his personal bust preference has grown in tandem with his hair. Slowly, but significantly longer/larger.
