Maybe the key to the episode was the other plane they saw

or has that talked about already...in previous seasons?

That was the plane Boone got injured in during Season 1, and then during Season 2 it was the plane that Eko's brother was in.

Ethan, the plane, the hatches. These things were the BIGGEST talking points of prior seasons.

Sometimes people just don't remember things. My dad actually thought that the hatch that Paulo found was the Swan hatch and he thought it was a massive plothole. He was like "How come he could open it when Locke couldn't? Wasn't it sealed?" He's watched the show since the pilot, too.

Pretty good episode. The flashbacks were interesting. Justice is served for all of us who hated Nikki and Paulo. What better way to get rid of them than to bury them alive:D

And about the preview
Meow!! Catfight over Jack in the rain. Hope to see some boobies

very satisfying episode - fast and conclusive - but also brings back a lot of memories from season 1 and 2. :) good stuff, although it was a bit predictable towards the end. :D Loved it, loved it.

Filler perhaps - but if they are going to do fillers like this, I'm always up for it. :D Bring on, next episode!!!

I'm betting Pablo was dead due to his paralyzed body attracting even more bites. With one bite bringing someone so close to death, a couple more would probably push them over the edge. Why the heck can't doctors realize that they aren't dead? I'm sure there are some symptoms that would be obvious such as lack of rigor-mortis or "blueness" of the skin.

Awesome episode nevertheless. I liked Ben and what's her face's conversation when they entered the hatch..... "Why is this thing open?"

I like that Ben pretty much tells Juliet how he manipulates everyone.

I wonder if that thing Hurley was talking about regarding the script was some sort of a hint. He said something about a character who was behind everything but nobody knew the identity of, and that it was revealed in that script. I think that was it. Ooh, season finale to reveal that one of our "heroes" is the head 'Other'? Hmm...

John Harker said:

The end made it seem like they won't- and their story seems to have run its course. But it would be pretty damn cool if they did. Even they didn't deserve a death like that.

Hmmm, this is interesting. So, who would that be analogous to? John? Jack?

I guess I'm alone in thinking that this was the worst Lost episode ever. People complaining about the the story not progressing or questions not being answered usually bugs me, but this episoded didn't bring a SINGLE new thing to the table. Complete and total filler, centered around completely useless and unlikeable characters.

Even seeing things from their point of view offered NO fresh insight into past events. The whole thing played out like a 'Best of' episode.

You are alone. Not sure what you watched, but there was a TON of fresh insight into past events. I also like things being revealed, but when an episode is as awesome/intense as this one, even as a filler then it gets a pass.

Also, can someone link to next weeks previews?

Awesome writing this episode. I like how they had us thinking Nikki said "Pallo lies" and that the monster killed them then immediately cut to the part of the flashbacks where Pallo is trying to convince her monsters don't exist. It was also cool getting some perspective from minor characters and seeing how they were in directly involved in some of the biggest events.

:lol

Somewhat odd episode, but the ending was all sorts of awesome. I'm glad they had the balls to
kill them in the end. RIP hawt Nikki.

Plus it had Lando!

Also, the director told Nikki, after they killed her off in the tv show, that they could possibly bring her back, and they would explain away her death.

That was what I enjoyed. Seeing Season 1 Locke again, seeing the plane crash, the lake that Sawyer and Kate swam in durng "Whatever The Case May Be" (IIRC)... it was nice.

I like how they had us thinking Nikki said "Pallo lies" and that the monster killed them then immediately cut to the part of the flashbacks where Pallo is trying to convince her monsters don't exist.

The monster didn't kill Paulo... a spider paralyzed him, and plus she said "paralyzed"

Losties now have a waltie talkie to communicate with. Thats one new thing right there.

Or does that somehow not count for you?

What a great episode, I was really sceptical about it, but I really enjoyed it despite it not advancing the story, I thought it was neat, and the way they interwined the characters into the story, then killing them off like that...

It's nice sometimes to take a break from the current story and going to something completely different like this.

Lost is on a roll lately, and there are some very interesting episodes coming up :D

Episode 20 spoilers
looks to be an episode dealing with the history of the Dharma Initiative beginning from the 70s, when it was created and it's arrival on the island, would probably also explain what happened during the purge etc
and the season finale will have....
a showdown between the 815ers and the Others :o

So was it just me or were there monster/computer noises when all those spiders came and bit Nikki? If that's the case, maybe the spiders were a manifestation of the monster trying to kill them?

"Razzle dazzle" is such a perfectly hilarious catch phrase for a trashy television show :lol

Man the scene where Nikki walks towards Dr. Arzt on the beach with the bikini is HOT... no wonder Dr. Arzt was excited.

The Losties already have 4 of their most interesting/important members in the others' camp, so who the **** cares?

Because you just can't dump 10 other characters. Lost is a big story, sure this ep was filler but at least it provided some closure on the whole Nikki and Paulo storyline. The next episode looks to continue the others camp storyline anyway.

I agree. I came into this thread all suprised at the positive reactions. Nikki and Paolo are completely uninteresting throw-away characters. The way the writers tried to force the two into previous events to make the characters seem more "relevant" in the whole scheme of Lost was lame. The girl was hot though.

Is acting stupid your new thing?

Lost doesn't run on a strict linear time line.

Maybe that explains the slew of unanswered questions. Shit happens and it's instantly forgotten.

And as for the ending: umm, so what? Someone I didn't give a shit about was buried alive because she did something that I didn't give a shit about.

I'm sorry to say but some of the reactions in this thread are pretty delusional. This episode was horrible, horrible filler. It was almost like a God damned repeat.

How was the episode horrible? it was really well written. Obviously this show isn't for you. Stop watching and spare us the bitching. WE DON'T CARE

That was a reference to the opening scene with Nikki and Billy Dee. I don't think it's worth reading into. It seems clear that the episode hadn't aired before the crash, so Hurley was excited to find out about it. Nothing more.

I don't see many people saying they enjoyed the episode because they cared about those two characters. I know I didn't. The episode rocked because of how it was toying with our distaste for them, along with all the other meta-humor about island mysteries. That's what was awesome.

For **** sake, stop watching Lost, for the love of all that is good, please. Go watch your American Idol tapes.

Seriously. If you can stand watching a season of terrible singing, you shouldn't be bitching about Lost at all.

My take on the filler thing is it was a good chance to kill off two useless characters that I didn't want on the show anyway.

The twist was nice since it was fairly well hidden amongst all of the other stuff happening so it didn't broadcast itself too much. Still, it's far from unique, I've seen the same "twist" used in at least two other shows, one of which was a "Tales from the Crypt" I believe, or maybe a "Twilight Zone" episode.

It reminded me of a twilight zone episode. They also did something similar in a Nightmares and Dreamscapes episode involving a snake.

It was a great one off/ filler episode. If you are going to do something that does not advance the plot, at least make it fun. They do have a walkie talkie now so maybe that will be of use later on.

Wow. Lost delivers, again. :)

I saw the ending coming but kept hoping something would happen... and nothing did. That was just disturbing. =\

At the end of season 4 perhaps...

On the studio they were filming Exposé, you could read "Season 4" on the door when Nikki was walking away with her sugardaddy.

Mmmm...

I liked the episode. Its good to have something different every now and then.

I'm spoilertagging the following but I don't really think it is a spoiler. More like speculation.

Paulo's shoe being found in the tree might be significant. In one of the earlier episodes Jack noticed a white shoe in a tree (was it the pilot?). A few episodes after that we saw his father (probably the monster taking his shape) on the island and he was wearing white shoes (they made it a point to show them). This episode also featured a spider that makes someone appear to be dead when bitten. They even went so far as to mention that when the spider bites someone a doctor would have a hard time detecting a heartbeat. Are they trying to drop hints that Jack's father is still alive?

The Black Brad Pitt said:
Those spiders sure came outta' nowhere though.

Didn't seem to come out of nowhere to me...didn't Arntz say something about the spider's pheromone's and how every male would be there in seconds? Isn't that exactly what happened?

The most important question this episode raised for me is:

Were the scenes showing Nikki and Paulo at the plane crash (also showing old character actions and dialog from different angles) filmed recently for this episode, or were they filmed back when they filmed those first episodes?

If they were filmed way back at the beginning, that would really restore my confidence that the shows creators have an unprecendented plan for what they're doing, and make me a lot less accepting about all the "show going nowhere" feelings.

Anyways, that was a well executed episode but it did seem a little pointless.

Yes, but i didnt take him THAT literally.

I mean, where did they come from to be there so fast?

This is the book I am pretty sure this episode was inspired or based off of. The story called "Autopsy Room Four"

That story was also a part of the TV-series "Nightmares and Dreamscapes", with the guy who played the adult Bill Denbrough in "It". One of the better stories in that series. :)
