Lost Odyssey - new scans from Famitsu #970

I ****ing love the artistic designs in this game. It's the most refreshing that I've seen an RPG in ages. The game also looks super gorgeous. :o

That insane highlands battle video for this is still one of the cooler things I've seen. My shoulders dropped the tiniest bit when it went into turn-based, but came back up when I watched it for a while / a few times. Diverse enemies (as well or even better designed as the ones in these scans) will make this game so very good.

IIRC, it has the same art director as Shadow Hearts. Character Design was done by Takehiko Inoue (Vagabond, anyone?)

Fans of 80 hour RPGs and grinding probably won't like this, but I'm all for fewer battles if it means they are unique and fit into a story.

the real reason is that they didn't have enough money for cheesy rock music w/ vocals for every major event ;)

Lost Odyssey Looks incredible! I am more interested in this than Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata.

I can't wait for E3 so that we can all witness the new trailer! :D

Probably my most anticipated game.

The visual style of Lost Odyssey still reminds me of FF VIII (in a good way!)
Thats because it was supposed to be a mix of FF8 and FF6.

Also did Sakaguchi ever reveal what the secret "controllable" feature was?

Wait, there's random encounters in this? If so, no sale.

It is way too early to say that, especially since the demo was full of random battles. I'm expecting some, but nothing nearing a game like Skies of Arcadia. It was ridiculous in that game.

Well it certainly looks great, but I'm still feeling tepid about this game. Maybe E3 will change how I feel about it.

Looks fantastic! I can't wait to get this; I'm digging just about everything they've shown for this game (except, of course, some of the nasty problems the demo had -- but I'm sure they're hard at work on all of that)

looks damn good!

Just hope the rebalancing of gameplay involves TAKING OUT RANDOM BATTLES!!!!

But yeah, if I had a 360 I would probably buy it anyway. Definitely looks far more interesting than BD

peace

Looks like there can be at least 5 people in the party. That's a lot.

Like Blue Dragon!

Random Encounters help set the pacing of a game very well though, and if a lot of the battles are event and story based, it shouldn't be a big deal. The combat should be fun enough that Random Battles aren't minded. They were fine for all the old school JRPGs that many gamers loved, and they're fine today. Throwing stupid enemies that wander around the screen or run at you quickly isn't really any better.

Can someone answered my previous quesitons, as to the total sales of blue dragon in Japan?

I wanna see if Ican predict how much this will sell.

Uhh I'm sorry but what's wrong with random battles? As long as they aren't every five seconds what's the problem?

Edit: What Thoren said ^^

Umm...yeah, actually, it IS better. A lot better. to me. I think there are more clever gameplay gimmicks and strategies that are possible. Like maybe puzzles or initiated attacks, etc. with random battles, however...

Haha yes you're right.

Blue Dragon is nearly at 200k in Japan.

I really could care less if Japan buys this game. All I care about is that I get to play it.

Looks amazing.

I can't wait for E3.

I hope they've changed it so that it's simiar to blue dragon,
although if it IS random, the encouter rate for the area shown in the demo didn't seem high

Yeah, well Skies of Arcadia is old gen, where random encounters belong. They should go the way of the dodo.

Honestly, they're just bad game design in this day and age. As for your comment about on-screen enemies being no better, see Chrono Trigger, a Super Nintendo game mind you, as an example of how to do them tastefully.

I just realized I responded to your question as if you said "no random battles, no sale".
I'm mildly amused by your complaint given your username.

man, the character is so cool, love the artist for this game, and love slam dunk :D

and now where is ASH?

That's your opinion. Personally, I like random encounters to balance out the leveling scale in a JRPG. I always find myself underleveled in many games that have on-screen enemies. Of course in this day and age of the casuals and underskilled being the mainstream crowd, a lot of gamers hate things that pressure them.

One of the best parts of FFX was going through the snowy mountains. It was a long path, had challenging enemies, dwiddled away alot of supplies, and even gave storyline segments along the way.

Oops, I didn't see. SOrry.

hmm, 200K isn't bad...Does MS even have 200K 360 in Japan? ,lol

Not bad at all. As for 360's, I *think* they're at...like...420,000 units sold. I'm betting this game is going to boost it up.

Yeah, I agree. It might have a more mass appeal than blue dragon too. Heck, I wasn't itnerested in Blue Drago, but I'm in this game.

Ahh FF13, why must u take so long :(
