You're in a library, or at church, or in the waiting room at your doctor's office minding your own business. You could be in a lobby, posting a message to GAF... and then it hits you. That girl or guy who doesn't know they're loud and they use the "concert/outside voice" to communicate the most trivial of statements. They're unaware that they're borderline shouting.

Why do they do it? At a young age, they may have had to compete with others for attention, and they found shouting works. They may be deaf. They may just be stupid.

Be kind to your neighbors and surrounding. Don't shout or talk loud inside. Check yourself before you get rekt.

I was one time at a bar that was very loud. Some meeky woman came and starting singing music. Had no idea she was playing.

All of a sudden, bartenders come up and ask me and a friend to leave. We legit shook her from preforming.

My father was like this and in his case and most others it is due to hearing damage. They don't realize it but in a lot of cases it's unintentional.

Yeah, I'm a periodic loud talker but it's because I get a wax buildup in my ears that I have to go to the doctor to get flushed.

Agreed OP. I hate yelling. I sometimes say no to hanging out with some friends just because I don't want to deal with their volume. Stresses me out.

Loud talkers bother me as well, especially when they're in my home and I'm trying to sleep or pay attention to something. I wish people would show more consideration and try to lower their voices/not laugh so loudly.

HOW DARE YOU!

I'm definitely not a fan of them either, but I love this character's stories.

I had a good friend who was like that, although he wasn't any of the things in the OP. The opposite, in fact. His voice wasn't as loud as a shouting voice, but I could hear it above other noises sometimes and it was noticeable in quiet places.

My three year old is a loud talker. What is worse is that when he hears a loud talker, he assumes that person is talking to him and loud talks to him. Oddly enough it either amplifies the loud talker or silences him.

I have a coworker whose regular voice on the phone consists of borderline yelling. Every time I tell him to lower the sound of his voice, he does so for less than a minute then goes right back to loud mode.

What the fuck? It's infuriating.

I do this. Hearing loss. Only disability people openly complain about. I don't mind though, I sound fierce as hell in the sack.

My dad always has TVs too loud because his hearing is damaged from working near engines for too long.

I find myself speaking a bit too loudly if I'm enthused about something.

Fuck soft spoken people. I lean in and ya'll are just like, "I think bread is yummy. Look at this web comic about how introverts are magical" and I'm like FUCK THIS LISTEN TO ME TALK ABOUT MY DICK NOW

And what frame of reference should they use for that?

I think that's part of the issue; you don't really have a reasonable metric for how loud you're speaking. Your perception of your own voice is affected by the fact that you're the source of it.

I'm reading this thread while visiting my mom. We're Dominicans....

I think we might be the loudest people on this planet lol

I'm a loud talker in most normal circumstances, but I can be quiet when I need to be. My dad is a loud phone talker. It's as if he needs to physically push his voice through to the other persons phone.

I've been told my entire life that my voice "carries"...through walls, vehicles, concrete bunkers etc.

I'm not loud really, but my voice hits a pitch that just cuts through any interfering noise and you can hear me a mile away. I have been told to shut up by strangers on more than one occasion.

I understand that those who are hard of hearing can be louder than average and that's to be expected. I just get annoyed by those who have no reason to be so loud. Also people who don't try to be quieter.

I know someone who's hard of hearing and is louder. They liked to slam doors and cupboards while here and, though we asked them not to, they wouldn't stop and didn't for quite some time. That pissed me off.

I'm Latino.

We don't have an indoor voice okay??

My girlfriend is Latina, I hate to generalise, but she does have this as an issue.

Most of the time is at the movies or when she's talking about someone within earshot (of her "whispering" voice).

I don't mind it much, it hasn't gotten us killed yet, but I just don't want her to get in trouble for it.

Lol. Truuu. It's hard for me to keep my voice down. I don't even know if I'm talking loud or not.

My girlfriend can attest to this as well. Although her volume levels change depending on who she's talking to. Lord help me if she's ever talking with her family -- then I can hear her three rooms away :p

The volume of an introverted only child cannot fathom the loudness of a Latino family!

As someone who wears hearing aids, I fucking hate you load talkers and soft talkers. Soft talkers because I can't understand a damn thing coming out of your mouth. Loud talkers because you make my ears hurt when I have my hearing aids in. It's even worse since I'm also an Introvert so the loud noise just really disorientates me.

Loud talkers should be launched into the fucking sun. Hate them. I have a neighbor in the studio apartment below me who lives with his girlfriend and he constantly talks loud enough for me to hear and understand him. Between floors. At 12, 1, 2am. There is no fucking reason for you to have a conversation loud enough for someone in another apartment to hear you.

And earlier today I was on a bus with these two highschool girls at the very back, and both of them but one in particular were literally yelling their conversation. Made it hard to read. Obnoxious as fuck. Have some goddamn self awareness.

Yeah growing up with near deaf parents has made it impossible for me.to tell what a normal speaking g volume is. It's been made worse as I've started developing my own hearing loss over the years.
