I ended up taking a military history of WWII class after watching the show for the first time. After the show I highly recommend reading Ambrose's book. Really goes a lot more in-depth with their training and everything. The thing that really impresses me is how accurate the show is to the actual stories Ambrose got out of the soldiers for his book. One of my favorite examples is how Buck Compton throws grenades

my history degree don't really study wars very well. it focus on the time period and costumes etc. war is not even secundary.

not that I really like war. like the dude say it on episode three. "War is hell".

I think I'm gonna give some time, I'm kind tired. Tomorrow I watch more

War sucks, but the history of wars is almost always awesomely interesting. That sounds too gung ho-y but I hope you know what I mean.

thats why I like to study war only on ancient history
it reads like a novel from 2000 years ago and don't affect me

Don't forget about Jimmy Fallon. Literally the most absurd casting decision I've ever seen, regardless of his fame level at the time. His presence alone just takes me out of the entire scene he's in and makes it feel like an SNL parody sketch. I love him, but he just doesn't fit here.
 
It's amazing indeed. I was crying like a fucking baby by the end, with the interviews.

And then Dick Winters died two years ago at the age of 92. A real American hero. Damian Lewis's portrayal of him made me a super fan.
 
I remember getting hbo just to watch BoB when it originally aired and since Ive probably watched it 20-25 times from start to finish. Love it, and is for sure not going to let you down op. It's a masterpiece.
 
BoB is fantastic, and the Pacific is definitely a bit different but I still enjoyed it.

Soundtracks are amazing, although I prefer The Pacific's over the Bob.

Everyone should watch BoB at least once in their life. Superior to Saving Private Ryan, except for probably that beach scene.

The japanese blu ray set is the best you can get in terms of PQ. the US version has been DNR'd a lot and is missing a lot of detail

Notice when hovering over the shots of the D-Day drop scenes, entire planes are missing. I really want to try to get a copy of the japanese set one day.
 
BoB is without a doubt some of the best tv ever made. The Pacific is really good in its own way too. The Pacific Theater was an entirely different type of war. Sledges story is fantastic.

Managed to get the BoB/Pacific Blu Ray Collectors set for only 99 bucks and it was so worth it
 
I watched BoB for the second time while in Normandy. Watching BoB while in the meantime visiting Point du Hoc, Omaha Beach, the American cemetary and other WO2 locations made for a pretty heavy but really interesting holiday.

But yes, best series there is. Everyone should watch it.

Next semester I'm gonna take a class on Contemporary History II, but it wouln't get much deep in battles or whatever. I'm watching just because it seems awesome and so far it is.

Well of course. Both had infantry regiments from the 101st Airborne Division which was the focus in Band of Brothers.

Especially Brothers in Arms. It was heavily inspired by the TV series itself.
 
There are 2 scenes that stand out most vividly for me, and probably my favourite in terms of feeling and portrayal.

1.
The speech from the German Commander to his troops
. A great insight into the emotions of the enemy in a war.

2.
The part where they come across the concentration camp and aren't allowed to over feed the hungry
. A very powerful scene all around.

I've only seen the series once. I think another watch through is required I believe. The series did make my see David Schwimmer in a new light. I could never see him outside of his goofy Friends persona, but he did a great job in BoB.

I didn't forget the Speirs scene!
 
I rewatch this show religiously every year since it came out.

I still remember the day I watched 'Why We Fight' for the first time, it stayed with me for days. It reflects the horrors of war so perfectly. Truly a haunting experience.
 
I need to watch Band of Brothers again sometime. There are several episodes that I've seen five or six times, but I've only seen the entire series once.
 
Man I like the Pacific a little better. Both are incredible. Something about the Pacific really gets to me. You really get the feeling of how much more intense everything was about the pacific theatre of war. It was truly unreal.

People get hung up on comparing the 2, but I think its hard to do that given the vastly different scope between the two.
 
This is such an amazing show from start to finish.
Probably one of the best TV shows ever created in my opinion.
 
BoB is legitimately one of the best television products ever created in the history of the medium. I know it sounds like hyperbole, but it really isn't. Shit is fucking outrageously good.
 
I have watched all of BoB probably like 10 times or more. I need to give Pacific a rewatch in a marathon style viewing. Both of my grandparents were in the Pacific theater and never talked about it ever.

But yeah, BoB is the pinnacle of television. Nothing has ever topped it.

I assume people who try to ruin the GoT no-book-spoiler discussion don't know what that feeling is. I only say this because the Ambrose book was written way before that and I'm sure people who read it were trying to spoil what happens in BoB by telling us who died at a point in the show rather than letting people watch it.

Definitely knew that was Guarnere, just by accent. Masterfull Casting by getting Frank John Hughes to play him.
 
Pacific didn't do it for me.


I saw what they were going for but I didn't like the stories or the people in them.


Most of the reason I like Bob so much is because I cared about winters and company. They were also doing all kinda heroic things.


Pacific was just depressing.
 
The sad thing is that they will never be able to replicate BoB. At least not in the sense that they had the actual real life people talking before or after the episode. That was powerful.

I remember the one line, something like, "Whenever there is a cold night, I say to myself, at least I'm not in Bastogne." God damn that was powerful.
